And this is why we have Boris in power! A complete right wing loon. I am a feminist but honestly aren't there bigger humanist fish to fry right now. Boris et Al do not represent women. Let get rid of this very right wing gov then deal with ridiculous gender politics later.

Somebodylikeyew · 20/01/2022 23:08

@TerraNovaTwo

It's not a single issue. The GRA will seep into every aspect of our lives and erase women and girls. Our safety. Our dignity. Our biology.
This. I’ve never been a single issue voter before but if you think erasing the categories of biological sex protection in favour of self ID is going to do anything other than further marginalise poor, disabled or vulnerable women then you’re not paying attention.

I’ve never felt so politically homeless but I won’t ever vote for a party who pushes self ID.

Alekto · 20/01/2022 23:09

Are you referring to the GRA put in place by the Tories involving Penny TWAW Mordaunt?

No. The GRA was passed into law in 2004 under Tony Blair's Labour.

Ah ok, thank you for the correction

Surely though if the Tories cared so much about it they'd have done something in the 12 years since, you'd have thought, or is it just bait for the gullible?

Boris is in power not because he is so good, but because the alternatives are so so bad.
RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 20/01/2022 23:16

valiant efforts

Since when is posting on MN valiant?

girafferafferaffe · 20/01/2022 23:17

Always voted labour. Certainly won't be anymore.

LookNorthbyNorthWest · 20/01/2022 23:21

Worth remembering that the only reason we have decent Maternity rights in the UK is because the EU made us have them. Tories never wanted them and thanks to Brexit they don't need to keep them. Let the Tories stay in power for much longer and we could end up like the US where there is zero statutory paid maternity leave.

I appreciate your valiant efforts but most people here are too stupid to do anything but catastrophise and repeat their ridiculous slogans.

Women's rights are not under threat by the proposed changes to the GRA. And Tories will soon be in favour of self-ID too. You can't stop it. Overcome your prejudice.

Nothing prejudicial about wanting to keep women's rights and safe places, for women.
nzborn · 20/01/2022 23:22

theirs no one to vote for as a woman

How do we do that? I'm all ears.
Waitwhat23 · 20/01/2022 23:24

I had to laugh at 'repeat their ridiculous slogans' immediately followed by -
'Women's rights are not under threat by the proposed changes to the GRA. And Tories will soon be in favour of self-ID too. You can't stop it. Overcome your prejudice.'

You forgot to add 'no debate, no platform, acceptance without question' and add in a few sex based slurs.

MiniatureHotdog · 20/01/2022 23:25

Me. How can any party say it will act for women if it doesn't even know what a woman is? Like many others I'm homeless 😭

Waitwhat23 · 20/01/2022 23:26

And up here in Scotland, it's the left wing parties who are determinedly destroying women's rights. The likelihood of the Tories ever getting any kind of foothold here is slim to none. But yet, women's rights are being destroyed.

ilovemybeachhut · 20/01/2022 23:27

Have never and would never vote labour for so many reasons.

Male sex offenders in female prisons.
Single sex homeless and domestic violence shelters losing funding because they won't accommodate admit male people.
Women being called bigots for asking for a same sex health care professional.
Women's health needs being compromised because males who identify as women don't want the word women used to refer to anything to do with female biology.
Sex disaggregated data being skewed because male people's data is included.
Women victims unable to access same sex rape counselling.
This is already happening in organisations who have adopted policies which allow males to self identify into female only spaces..So " not under threat?" Aye right!

acquiescence · 20/01/2022 23:37

@RememberThePenguins

I'm gender critical but I believe that more harm will be done to women via poverty and increasing costs of living than the trans rights issue. So I will vote Labour.

No let's get rid of the gender politics and then we can deal with the government.
No more, deal with the erasure of women later. This is the most pressing issue now. Voting for a party that supports self ID would be a ridiculous thing to do.

Yes women's rights are under threat. Overcome your prejudice towards women and women's safety.
