Me too 🙋‍♀️

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/01/2022 09:49

If anybody can identify as a woman then the word becomes meaningless and therefore the concept of women's rights becomes meaningless.

Exactly.

mucky123 · 21/01/2022 09:52

Me or Liberal Democrats and its all down to the gra.

Me, left feeling like there is no one representing my interests any more.

senua · 21/01/2022 10:01

Genuine question, do you not feel a sense of enormous privilege though by spoiling it?
On the contrary. I am in a very safe seat so my one puny vote/non-vote makes no difference. No difference to them, that is, but it does to me.
We need enough people to do the same so that "They" do take notice. Hence this thread.

Blackbird1234 · 21/01/2022 10:07

senua That's quite interesting. Has there ever been an instance where there were enough spoiled ballots for them to take notice?

elodie77 · 21/01/2022 10:09

@Blackbird1234

elodie77 Yes, that's what I've always thought.

senua Thanks for answering. Genuine question, do you not feel a sense of enormous privilege though by spoiling it? Because it won't actually do anything to further the cause that you're passionate about. So wouldn't it be better to vote for the party that are the closest to what you stand for rather than throw away your vote? I'm mostly saying this as someone who can't vote, so I find it incomprehensible that the people who are privileged enough to be able to, don't use it.

Absolutely, I also can't vote and feel incredibly frustrated by the apathy here, including the many who say they are in a very safe seat so it makes no difference!!

I don't know but I live in hope!
AssignedBlobbyAtBirth · 21/01/2022 10:21

Voting for a party that allows the word woman to have no meaning isn't advancing women's rights

Blackbird1234 · 21/01/2022 10:24

elodie77 I feel like you can't know for certain whether that seat is actually safe though, because what if everyone thinks that and then loads of people spoil their ballot, does that not make the seat not safe? No idea if that's how it works though!

spongedog · 21/01/2022 10:54

@FOJN

I won't vote Labour, LibDem or Green because of their policies on self ID. Spoilt my ballot last time. Not sure what I'll do next time but I live in a safe Tory constituency so it probably won't make any difference who I vote for.
this is my position as well

It's not often that a seat is decided by a few votes either way although it does happen. What usually makes most impact is voters switching from one party to another, which is what is being suggested here.

I want to vote but like so many I currently feel politically homeless.
I recently came across the SDP website, I didn't know they were still even going.
I don't think there is a candidate in my area but I found their policies an interesting read re sex based rights.

TRANSGENDER & BIOLOGICAL SEX-BASED RIGHTS
The liberal pursuit of individual autonomy and desire must be balanced by the common good. Some citizens feel at odds with the physiology and social role associated with their natal sex and can suffer distress. Transgender people should be treated with dignity and respect, in keeping with their acquired gender in most situations. However, these rights must be balanced against the need of natal females for safety and sporting fairness. Biological sex is real and politically significant. This requires an absolute stance on relevant legal definitions in some domains.
POLICY PLEDGES:
Transgender individuals wishing to change their legal sex should be allowed to do so. However, we support the continued necessity for medical gatekeeping in any legal change of sex marker. We oppose proposals that would allow someone to change their legal sex by self-identification only.
We support segregation by biological sex in sport. Fair competition is not secured if male-bodied transgender athletes are permitted to compete in women’s sport and, in the case of contact sports, the risk of injury can increase significantly.
We support segregation by biological sex in prisons and women’s refuges in order to safeguard the safety and privacy of natal females. Separate prisons or prison accommodation should be provided for transgender citizens to ensure their safety and privacy.
Healthcare spending and resources for gender dysphoric individuals, including long-term psychological intervention, should be provided at sufficient levels. Physical or drug-based medical treatments for gender dysphoria should be prohibited for anyone under 18 years of age.
We support the retention of biological sex and gender identity as distinct categories in public sector data gathering such as crime statistics, poverty metrics or public health research.
We support the use of plain English for discussions of biological sex in health and reproductive care.

DottyDoge · 21/01/2022 11:26

You're GC like my mum is, knowing you can't change sex but thinking it's all "a storm in a teacup". Many of us think it's rather fundamental to have women's sex based rights protected in law, and we won't vote for a party that has clearly stated their intention to remove them.

In the same way, there are many who think it's rather fundamental to vote for the party that on balance, will do the most for women, rather than to reject that for some imagined threat to remove sex based rights.

senua · 21/01/2022 11:26

"The right to be offended by what other people might say, but to respect their right to say it – and to get over it."
I'm starting to like the SDP's policies

Theeyeballsinthesky · 21/01/2022 11:34

For the umpteenth time if men can be women then they are no sex based womens right are there

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/01/2022 11:36

some imagined threat to remove sex based rights.

It's not an "imagined threat" Confused you don't seem to be particularly aware or up to date on many of these issues despite being "GC", but I respect your right to prioritise what you think is most important and I and others will do likewise. And I'm sure you'll judge me and I'll judge you. Living in a democracy is great, isn't it? I don't owe anyone my vote, and I won't vote for anyone who thinks women's necessary sex based rights are less important than the latest identity politics bandwagon. And who hung out one of their female MPs to dry to pander to mostly male misogynists in the party so much that she couldn't even attend her party conference.

No thank you.

AssignedBlobbyAtBirth · 21/01/2022 11:37

There is no doing most for women if woman is meaningless
Labour have demonstrated that time and again with males in women's roles, taking women's places on training programmes, speaking out about the rights of males to be in women's prisons and refuges
Women will have nothing

DearFrutti · 21/01/2022 11:38

I can’t vote for any of them
Politically homeless like so many of you

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/01/2022 11:38

Ugh sorry about the grammar in my last paragraph. The point stands, however. I'll use my vote as I choose, and I am completely impervious to guilt tripping, and it's time Labour fans got their head around the fact that it doesn't work, and often is counterproductive.

Imaginary???? Has the poster quoted had their head under a rock for the last decade. This is the biggest threat to women's rights, safety and representation for a hundred years and the quoted poster is saying it's "imaginary". You're blind.

Telling the truth isn’t apathy

Not voting would be apathy but ive not seen many people on here saying that (i may have missed one 😀) also saying that they don’t vote

DottyDoge · 21/01/2022 11:48

You're absolutely right. However, what I will say is I see a perfect reflection of the purity identity politics you're bemoaning.

zafferana · 21/01/2022 11:50

I'd never vote Labour and they're 3rd in my area. Thing is, I can't vote Lib Dem either, for the same reason, which leaves Con.
