Politically homeless here, not even the Women's Equality Party can guarantee representing women's rights. Tragic state of affairs

Thoosa · 21/01/2022 00:36

100% this but to be honest having read through posts up to now I’m almost certain most PPs were never Labour voters in the first place. Many of the writing styles are very similar and formulaic e.g. ‘I’m a lifelong Labour voter xxx’. Thread clearly started to distract from Tory problems.

Oh do me a favour. “Lifelong Labour voter” is an established phrase, and (formerly) a badge of pride. I’ve said it myself, and those of us who count ourselves such feel betrayed.

We perfectly well remember when the GRA changes were something the Tories were trying to slide through, and the seeming nano-second later when we realised our own side, and the greens and the Lib Dems had also fallen for it.

You sound like one of the nut cases on Twitter who were trying to tell my pro-choice, big government, citizens income supporting self that I was being funded by US evangelical Bible Belt reactionaries. (Still haven’t got that cheque Hmm).

Take your tim foil hat off and try to accept that other people’s opinions may differ from your own.

@sst1234

No way. Labour are unelectable. They deserve to be banished to obscurity. A bunch of misogynists.

Sorry! That's the link to Jess Phillips discussing misogyny

BewareTheLibrarians · 21/01/2022 00:44

@334bu

*Women's rights are not under threat by the proposed changes to the GRA. And Tories will soon be in favour of self-ID too. You can't stop it. Overcome your prejudice.*

Male sex offenders in female prisons.
Single sex homeless and domestic violence shelters losing funding because they won't accommodate admit male people.
Women being called bigots for asking for a same sex health care professional.
Women's health needs being compromised because males who identify as women don't want the word women used to refer to anything to do with female biology.
Sex disaggregated data being skewed because male people's data is included.
Women victims unable to access same sex rape counselling.
This is already happening in organisations who have adopted policies which allow males to self identify into female only spaces..So " not under threat?" Aye right!

So this is a list of things already happening under a conservative government. Why would anyone think they’re a better choice?

Answer what? Is there an essay question?

Jess P is fighting the good fight. Tenaciously. Meanwhile the party policy is cancelling her efforts out, and she seems to be being quite slippery herself on self ID. Anti misogyny legislation will be no good if nobody can define “woman”.

BreadInCaptivity · 21/01/2022 00:53
twitter.com/haggis_uk/status/1484150536102424582?s=21
Listened.

Not changed my mind in the slightest.

How do you define misogyny and misogynistic crimes if a woman is not solely an adult human female?

Jess is an MP for a party that won't acknowledge that only women have a cervix.

They are in favour of self id that is a serious safeguarding concern.

They have MP's that call women standing up for women's rights "dinosaurs".

I won't vote for the Conservatives, but I will (as I did last GE) spoil my ballot or vote for a left leaning GC independent if one puts their hat in the ring in my constituency.

Thoosa · 21/01/2022 00:59

Those of you spoiling the ballot, what do you write? I need inspiration. Smile

frazzledali · 21/01/2022 00:59

Fucking hell, you're all obsessed to the point of insanity. Can you not hear yourselves?

Thoosa · 21/01/2022 01:07

You could be addressing either side @frazzledali

It’s literally impossible to tell. Self ID is a binary issue (no pun intended) and everyone who has come to an opinion on it tends to feel strongly.

Absolute no need for rancour, though. It’s a split of opinion.

BreadInCaptivity · 21/01/2022 01:16

@Thoosa

Last time I wrote something along the lines of "To [Labour Candidate], you would have had my vote but because you don't understand the definition my double XX chromosomes, I'm not handing one of them to you on this ballot paper".

AuntTwacky · 21/01/2022 01:16

This

Would you rather vote for a bunch of liars

Thoosa · 21/01/2022 01:18

Would you rather vote for a bunch of liars

No. Hence the repeated phrase “politically homeless”, and talk of abstaining or spoiling ballots.

Thoosa · 21/01/2022 01:20

Oh I like that @BreadInCaptivity - addressing the candidate directly. It will match my emails. Smile

BreadInCaptivity · 21/01/2022 01:21

Would you rather vote for a bunch of liars

Which ones?

The ones who lie about illegal parties or the ones who lie about the ability to change sex?

Hmm
ilovesooty · 21/01/2022 01:21

Spoiling ballots means in many seats voting in the sitting Conservative candidate.

Thoosa · 21/01/2022 01:24

@ilovesooty

Spoiling ballots means in many seats voting in the sitting Conservative candidate.
Un/luckily here, it won’t make a blind bit of difference, which eases my decision, but everyone has to come to a solution they can live with in a horrible landscape of non-representation. It’s not easy. Hence the discussion.
BreadInCaptivity · 21/01/2022 01:26

@ilovesooty

Spoiling ballots means in many seats voting in the sitting Conservative candidate.

Yes.

Whose fault is that?

Mine? Because I'm a Turkey not voting for Christmas?

Or a party that alienates the turkeys who represent 51% of the population Hmm

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/01/2022 01:26

You like to think you are part of a huge uprising that will scare political parties, but really, you are just a small bunch of very loud and online people, deluding yourselves over your power.

Oh I remember you, you're a Lib Dem, aren't you? Maybe try to read out that last sentence with that in mind, in front of a mirror, and keep a straight face?

EmergencyHydrangea · 21/01/2022 01:30

I don't know what makes any of you think that the tories give one single shit about women

Neither do I.

Yet so many are prepared to facilitate more of what we have now for the foreseeable future.

BreadInCaptivity · 21/01/2022 01:32

@EmergencyHydrangea

I don't know what makes any of you think that the tories give one single shit about women

The fact that Liz Truss can actually define what one is for starters.....
