Lovely display of houses

And yet 3 out of the 10 houses nearby have their Christmas decs up still!

So all 3 have their lights up still, proper Christmas ones, and then one of them, I can still see the bloody tree through the window!

AIBU to say take the bloody things down ffs?!

Some people keep their decorations up until Candlemas which is on the 2nd Feb I think

RestingMurderousFace · 20/01/2022 15:51

I've still got fairy lights across the fireplace, they look cheerful so they're staying up to until the winter gloom has gone.

ladycarlotta · 20/01/2022 15:54

This year my toddler was so excited to spot Christmas lights, they really cheered things up. It seems a shame for them to be taken down so early really, when we have weeks if not months of miserable dark winter left to get through. I'm grateful to those who keep them up a bit longer.

RamblinBoy · 20/01/2022 15:57

We've kept our outside lights up this year because they look nice.

I've actually noticed quite a few of my neighbours have kept theirs up too and it cheers me up. A few have outside twinkly lights all year.

@NeedAHoliday2021

My neighbour had a hideous ornament that filled half her front window and I couldn’t avoid seeing it every time I drive into my drive. After she died it was finally cleared. I can’t even explain why I hated it so much (obviously I never said anything). I told dh and he thought it was hilarious. Now he’s confessed that he’s more bothered by our other neighbours who have a plant in the front window that’s clearly dead Grin You don’t need a good reason for something to annoy you.
No, but you need a good reason to act on that annoyance, no? 😂.
Hertsgirl10 · 20/01/2022 16:16

@MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake

I want you to knock on each of those three houses and insist they take their decorations down.

Then come back here and tell me what their responses were.

@MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake 😂😂😂 Me too.

Especially the one who has their tree up that op can see through their window 😅😂

We took down outdoor decks a couple of weeks ago, but still have indoor decks up. DH came down with Covid on Boxing Day and then I came down a few days later. We’ve were isolating from kids in the house for 14 days all told, when pretty much no one used the room the tree was in. So decided to keep them up and enjoy them a bit longer. Will be taking them down this weekend, though.

I remember when I was a teen one year my mum decided she wanted to keep them up all year. I thought it was great at first, but by April they felt really tired and not at all special (to me, my mum still said she loved them). It was years before I really enjoyed putting them up at Christmas again. So I’m wary of overdoing it. I really like what we have at the moment.

DrCoconut · 20/01/2022 16:21

@DeepDown12 I was going to say that. I don't celebrate orthodox Christmas but know plenty of people who do.

StoneofDestiny · 20/01/2022 16:29

Some people leave them up all year - massive decs bolted to the outside walls of houses or with Santa and Reindeer bolted to the roof. Bizarre.

Always amuses me when people say to things like this 'why does it bother you etc' - and that applies to unkempt gardens, car wrecks on the drive, knackered fences, giant caravans blocking light, Santa at July etc. I think most people like a nice appropriate view from their window and to live on a street where people seem to care about their surroundings.

Sartre · 20/01/2022 16:33

Some people leave the outdoor ones up all year, I’ve seen it a few times in my life. They don’t turn them on obviously but presumably cba taking them down to put them back up which is understandable. Indoor ones is a bit weird though, especially a fully decorated tree in the window.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 20/01/2022 16:35

It used to be traditional to leave them up until Candlemas. (2nd Feb).

I still have white lights in a huge house plant - more like a mini tree - in a front window. Left them on last year too, meaning to take them down once the clocks changed, but they stayed up all year.

Strugglingtodomybest · 20/01/2022 16:44

allSantahasjoinedww aw, they're gorgeous!

Tsuni · 20/01/2022 17:03

Wind your neck in and don’t look at their house.

thepeopleversuswork · 20/01/2022 17:08

It's not acceptable. Its tacky and lazy and would annoy me.

Sheesh. Remind me not to trick or treat at your house.

I find it absolutely bizarre that people get so over-involved in other people's lives.

FindingMeno · 20/01/2022 17:11

It'd unreasonably bug me.

Rosebel · 20/01/2022 17:12

No worse than people who put their decorations up in October and November.

Hawkins001 · 20/01/2022 17:13

I'd say, soon as Halloween is complet e then it's free reign for Christmas decoration
Cherrysoup · 20/01/2022 17:14

One of the wee boys in my form says his nationality keep the lights etc on til February. A couple of years ago, having put fairy lights in the 10ft high winter jasmine outside the front door, we decided to leave them year round. It’s a nice welcome home and affects nobody.

daysoffin · 20/01/2022 17:14

@SleepingStandingUp

I don't think it's typical to still have it up, but I think the unreasonable neighbour is the one peering into other people's houses and complaining they don't like what they see
Well, you're right there!

I stand corrected

@CoastalWave

My neighbours are annoying me by keeping their bins on the front drive the entire time (instead of putting them away in the back)

I hear you.

If it is their drive and not a shared drive, then YABU. Perhaps some fairy lights on the bins would cheer you up?
EdenFlower · 20/01/2022 17:17

My neighbour still has all her Christmas lights on all round her garden both front and back. They shine into the bedroom at night so are bloody annoying. Last year she didn't turn them off until after Easter!

MrsGinnyM · 20/01/2022 17:19

a nice appropriate view
But who gets to decide what is 'appropriate'?

Mellowyellow222 · 20/01/2022 17:21

For some reason Christmas decorations after new year depress me.

My neighbour has all the outdoor lights still up, just not switched on. There are icicle style ones hanging everywhere. It just looks a bit neglected and sad.

None of my business and they can do what they like. But I really wish they would take them down

tigger1001 · 20/01/2022 17:23

@MrsGinnyM

Exactly!

What exactly is an appropriate view" anyway?

Do people really have so much time on their hands that they care others still have decorations up?

Harrysmummy246 · 20/01/2022 17:30

Just reminded me my outdoor lights are still up and on auto turn on of an evening. Oops a daisy. Hope you're offended :P
