To wish my neighbours would take down their Christmas decs!

Lovely display of houses

And yet 3 out of the 10 houses nearby have their Christmas decs up still!

So all 3 have their lights up still, proper Christmas ones, and then one of them, I can still see the bloody tree through the window!

AIBU to say take the bloody things down ffs?!

We still have the lights up at work. Think they're going to be a permanent fixture they brighten the place up a bit

Beanybob · 20/01/2022 13:09

My neighbours still has them on in April last year...drove me mental but only because they were lights draped over a bush separating our driveways so looked like they could be mine. Obviously didn't say anything to them but can't say I didn't fantasise about snipping the wire by the time we got to March.

Exhausteddog · 20/01/2022 13:12

YANBU to wish they took them down (because you prefer the look without)
YABU if you are making judgements about the owners of said decorations.

Shiningpath · 20/01/2022 13:13

I wouldn’t start moaning until after Candlemas.

wishingitwasfriday · 20/01/2022 13:13

Surely it's no different to those who insist on putting their decorations up in October/November? Live and let live!

@Farrandau

Now, *@MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake*, if I'm getting to be dealing with an angry OP saying I'm being lazy for not taking down my door wreath by January 20th, what's she going to say to you when she rocks up at Satis House and points out you've been wearing your manky wedding dress and a single shoe for decades, not to mention the rotting wedding feast still on the dining room table? Grin

Grin Grin

Good point.

Admittedly, my failure to move on from being disappointed in love might irk the OP somewhat. But I will get my Estella to tackle her to the ground before she sees my slightly gone off wedding breakfast! Otherwise she'll insist on getting the place spick and span and have me change into something jaunty from Boden!

DickMabutt73962 · 20/01/2022 13:14

My tree is up! Had little motivation to put it up and it's far far lower to take it down Grin it brings me joy 😇

Oldraver · 20/01/2022 13:14

We left by accident our outside lights up. Next door said he had wished he's done the same

We both still have the lights out Grin

Roselilly36 · 20/01/2022 13:15

Certain religions have only just celebrated their new year, so perhaps this is why, or they just like them? But it wouldn’t worry me tbh, live and let live, I say.

Lillith111 · 20/01/2022 13:15

Why is it anyones business how someone chooses to decorate their house. Tacky, not tacky how someone decorates their home is their business only

Hawkins001 · 20/01/2022 13:16

I understand your perspectives op, but they are pretty

saltandpepper234 · 20/01/2022 13:17

I’m with you OP that would annoy me.

There are a few houses round here that have some lights up but they aren’t necessarily Christmassy and those I think are fine but obviously Christmassy things and trees would drive me insane. It’s not a big job just to take it down (preferably on or before 1st Jan 😂)

Wanderingowl · 20/01/2022 13:18

People in many parts of the world still observe the tradition of keeping their decorations up until early February. It's probably just a normal part of your neighbours' culture and it's pretty arsey to have so much of a problem with it. Your traditions aren't the correct ones, they are just correct for you. their are correct for them and the only impact they are having on you is the impact you decide to let them have by thinking you ways are superior.

In addition, as many other have said, lots of people missed out on their family gatherings this year due to Covid. So it's likely that there are plenty of people still planning to celebrate in the coming weeks and letting their decorations up. Some of my family had to cancel plans due to a Christmas morning positive lft. We planned to celebrate for New Years, but other people tested positive. Then for a siblings January birthday but I tested positive before that. We've our fingers crossed for Chinese New Year at this point but if we didn't have Chinese family members we wouldn't have that to look forward to and maybe we would get some of the Christmas decorations out when we do get to meet.

Strugglingtodomybest · 20/01/2022 13:20

Some people keep their decs up until Candlemas which is 2 Feb this year.

Exactly. It's hardly 'lazy', 'weird', 'tacky' or 'untidy' to follow the Christian traditions of a Christian festival. Maybe some people need to do some research on the festivals they take part in.

x2boys · 20/01/2022 13:20

No odder than people who insist on having their decorations up in October and having them all down by boxing Day surely?

Tal45 · 20/01/2022 13:21

I can see why the lights would be annoying if they're light up Father Christmas's and flash 'Merry Christmas' constantly. But if they're just some small fairy lights and a indoor tree then I don't see the problem - why would someone having a tree inside their house impact you??

I took the last of our trees down today. We have no neighbours to be annoyed though thankfully.

DeepDown12 · 20/01/2022 13:23

I happen to celebrate Orthodox Christmas and New Year (Jan 7 and 14) as well as DH's Christmas and traditional New Year so our decorations stay up until first weekend after the last celebration. Maybe that's the case for your neighbours as well?

Crinkle77 · 20/01/2022 13:23

So what?

Echoesandsilence · 20/01/2022 13:25

Oops. My candy cane garden path lights are still out.
In my defense, I've had a bad kidney infection followed by Covid.
The tree is down though.

MarineBlue33 · 20/01/2022 13:25

I actually admire people who keep their lights and decorations up past Epiphany.
I think they must be quite laid back, chilled people and not bothered by convention.
Some may say they are disorganised but so what?
Sparkle is always good

JohnnyEyebrows · 20/01/2022 13:25

It's just laziness

ShouldIStaySelfIsolated · 20/01/2022 13:26

I still have my wreath on my door... all other decs down, but I love my wreath! I made it by hand and I've never done anything like that so I was proud of it. It's still looking fresh so why not? Will take it down when it dies or when it's time for the Easter wreath

womaninatightspot · 20/01/2022 13:26

Never knew about keeping decs up to candlemas (heathen that I am) fingers crossed they come down then.

There is something quite cheerful about lights in the dark though. I've left up some decorations but they are just solar powered lights on a copper wire, they were bought for christmas but not overtly christmassy so they are staying :)

Redcherries · 20/01/2022 13:29

Our lights are still up, we realised they are really quite useful as theres no street lights. We only put them on if we need to see something though!
