To wish my neighbours would take down their Christmas decs!

Lovely display of houses

And yet 3 out of the 10 houses nearby have their Christmas decs up still!

So all 3 have their lights up still, proper Christmas ones, and then one of them, I can still see the bloody tree through the window!

AIBU to say take the bloody things down ffs?!

@Santahasjoinedww why are yours still up? Not asking in a ‘why the fuck’ manner (although I do think it’s a bit odd). Merely interested.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 20/01/2022 12:45

My trees have gone but I've kept all the fairy lights and they are on every evening
Life is pretty shit at the minute
I need all the sparkle I can get
And fuck off with your mental health comment

Peridot1 · 20/01/2022 12:45

Well it’s good enough for the Queen…….

They keep theirs up until Candlemas.

BigYellowHat · 20/01/2022 12:45

Have you logged it with 101?

crosbystillsandmash · 20/01/2022 12:46

Have you checked they're ok?
Unless I'd seen my neighbour, I'd be worried she'd died Confused

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 20/01/2022 12:47

@Farrandau

We still have a wreath of berries on the front door purely because I love the clash between our orange-red door and the pinkish-red berries but as it's not visible from the street, maybe that meets with the OP's approval?
The OP will be around presently to yank it off the door and to give you a stern look. Listen out for the angry screech of tyres announcing her approach.
0palescent · 20/01/2022 12:48

YABU. Maybe they're just traditional.

Topbird29 · 20/01/2022 12:48

Maybe they are having a deffered xmas gathering due to covid and commitments to work around. Or just liking them up.

NewPapaGuinea · 20/01/2022 12:48

Look up Candlemas, perfectly acceptable to still have them up. I say keep them up all Winter when it’s cold and dark.

Ponoka7 · 20/01/2022 12:48

Is anyone posting living in Liverpool? If so, my tree is coming down today. I've no lights up, though but people in my street do, which is cheery. My tree is up because I'm packing for my stuff to go into storage. I didn't have proper packing boxes, but now I have. Plus I managed to miss the real Christmas tree recycling and now I have to wait until it's very dead to cut up. However, if you are Catholic or it's your culture, it's acceptable for the decorations to stay up until Candlemas which is 2nd February.

Youngatheart00 · 20/01/2022 12:49

On the face of it I’d agree - it’s lazy and looks untidy. I take mine down on 2nd or 3rd jan.

However, you don’t know what’s going on with them. Perhaps someone is gravely ill and taking down decorations is the last thing on their mind.

All 3 of them?
PyjamaMamma · 20/01/2022 12:50

Maybe they are religious/superstitious, maybe they just get joy out of it. Either way, OP, time to post a PA note through their letterbox, then maybe they’ll open their own thread and we will find out why? Grin

2beesornot2beesthatisthehoney · 20/01/2022 12:51

Oh dear OP I am still using my holly Christmas teacosy until 2 February. Don’t worry I won’t invite you round for a cuppa!

Some comments here are ridiculous!

Farrandau · 20/01/2022 12:52

Now, @MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake, if I'm getting to be dealing with an angry OP saying I'm being lazy for not taking down my door wreath by January 20th, what's she going to say to you when she rocks up at Satis House and points out you've been wearing your manky wedding dress and a single shoe for decades, not to mention the rotting wedding feast still on the dining room table? Grin

You’re not being h reasonable - anything after about 10th Jan is just weird.

SituationCritical · 20/01/2022 12:52

I selfishly quite enjoy it...I took mine down on New Year's day but its so much nicer walking the dog at 9pm looking at Christmas lights rather than blank boringness. Not prepared to keep mine up but quite happy to enjoy other people's!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 20/01/2022 12:53

I love twinkly lights on people's houses, @daysoffin - especially during the winter months - they cheer me up, so I think YABU - sorry.

That's a point maybe check on all 3 of then.

Gosh some of you are so far up your own arses it's ridiculous! You don't like it close your blinds, concentrate on your own life and let others deal with theirs..

ChrissyPlummer · 20/01/2022 13:03

How exactly does this affect anyone? I couldn’t give a shit what others do with their Xmas decs. I wish I’d left some lights up as I detest this time of year and lights and decs make it feel much more cheerful.

TheresSomebodyAtTheDoorNeil · 20/01/2022 13:06

A house near me has draped their entire house in coloured lights, theyve even done the garden. It looks absolutely fantastic....... Im glad they've left them on, it cheers me up in this crappy, dark weather.

TheChemicalMother · 20/01/2022 13:07

Christmas is for Life, not just for Christmas!

DwightShrutesgirlfriend · 20/01/2022 13:08

Rationally, YABU, nothing to do with you. However, irrationally, it would annoy me too!
