Lovely display of houses

And yet 3 out of the 10 houses nearby have their Christmas decs up still!

So all 3 have their lights up still, proper Christmas ones, and then one of them, I can still see the bloody tree through the window!

AIBU to say take the bloody things down ffs?!

@wishingitwasfriday

Surely it's no different to those who insist on putting their decorations up in October/November? Live and let live!
This. OP did you have yours up before theirs? Perhaps that annoyed them in the same way.
StrawberryLollipops · 20/01/2022 13:56

English heritage asked people last year to keep them up till Candlemas. See here

TheKeatingFive · 20/01/2022 13:56

It has an air of “can’t be arsed” about it so I wouldn’t like it either.

But what's it to you if someone can't be arsed? Maybe they're spending their time on much more fulfilling things than appeasing their nosy neighbours.

sugarapplelane · 20/01/2022 13:57

YABU - maybe they're keeping them up till Candlemas.
My MIL does this.

Hugasauras · 20/01/2022 14:00

We kept forgetting to take our polar bear in last year and then DD got attached to it so he became an all-year-round polar bear Grin We did actually remember this time round.

SittingontheSidelines · 20/01/2022 14:01

Yes
up till candle mass
If it's good enough for the Queen.....
We had something way more important to concentrate on
All those reasons apply to us this year
Plus
It's entertaining to watch passers by point at our tree in the windowWink

Sashimiandhisthunderpaws · 20/01/2022 14:01

I find it depressing - Christmas decorations still up and eating Christmas food in January. .

There's nothing more satisfying than having all evidence of Christmas eradicated and a massive clean on 31/12.

BetterDaysAreComing12 · 20/01/2022 14:02

YABU. I’ll never understand how people get soooo worked up over little aspects of other peoples lives like this. Surely it’s exhausting?

Crepusculum · 20/01/2022 14:02

YANBU
One of mine still have their outside lights up but given they put them up for xmas 2020 I'm not holding out much hope for it being any time soon. Not that it bothers me that much.
I'll admit I've become mildly grumpy over the massive increase in outdoor lights simply because they seem to be up so long and are definitely not special by Christmas. I usually put my outdoor ones up a week before Christmas but I couldn't be arsed this year as by then I was sick of my neighbours ones! On reflection, maybe I'm more moderately grumpy over them than mildly Wink.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 20/01/2022 14:03

@Buzzer3555

It would irritate me too ..but I 'm a grumpy cow
Me, too.

It really gets on my wick

spiderlight · 20/01/2022 14:03

Someone near us still has an enormous bauble creation around their front door - picture a balloon arch, but made of baubles the size of footballs. It's very pretty and it's harming no-one, but I do wonder where the hell they keep it for the rest of the year!

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/01/2022 14:03

@TheKeatingFive It makes the area look tatty. Tatty areas aren’t nice to live in.

It’s not nosy to have eyes in my head. Only on mumsnet is it nosy not to paint your windows black and poke your eyes out 😁

JugglingJanuary · 20/01/2022 14:05

@BurnDownTheDiscoHangTheDJ

You’re not being h reasonable - anything after about 10th Jan is just weird.
No it's not. Look up Candlemas.

@daysoffin & fellow moany arses, look up Candlemas & MYOB. Admittedly I only have indoor ones up, but I've hung the wreath on the inside of the front door & put the tree lights on every day.

It's inside my house & people can do as they bloody well like!!

The outside ones are possibly a bit inconsiderate, but only if they're an actual
Problem & not because of the date.

Strugglingtodomybest · 20/01/2022 14:05

Grin and hello Hyacinth...

Glitterspy · 20/01/2022 14:06

YANBU, our neighbours down the road (biggest house on the street by miles) still have all their lights up (whole house, hedges and trees)…I don’t know why but it does marginally peeve me. Watch me I’ll join neighbourhood watch next!

TheKeatingFive · 20/01/2022 14:07

It makes the area look tatty. Tatty areas aren’t nice to live in.

Woah there Hyacinth ...

Others think it looks cheery.

Hmm, I wonder what kind of people I'd prefer to live beside? Those sharing a bit of cheer or those having a conniption fit about things being tatty? 🤔

TheKeatingFive · 20/01/2022 14:07

X post 😂

LaChanticleer · 20/01/2022 14:09

YABU.

Gosh, I sometimes wonder what people's lives are like that they go around thinking this sort of thing. Whatever happened to live & let live? Christmas decorations don't hurt anybody.

I still have my tree up because the lights are really pretty, and January is a long dark month to get through.

gogohm · 20/01/2022 14:09

There's a tradition of f term being kept up to candlemas - 2nd February. However you don't put them up until Christmas Eve!

I have plain lights still up on my balcony, I'm keeping them up, they are pretty

TheKeatingFive · 20/01/2022 14:09

Gosh, I sometimes wonder what people's lives are like that they go around thinking this sort of thing.

The mind just boggles, doesn't it?

Strugglingtodomybest · 20/01/2022 14:09

Tatty just screams Hyacinth doesn't it?!

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/01/2022 14:09

Hellooo Daisy @Strugglingtodomybest.

VikingOnTheFridge · 20/01/2022 14:10

I might do that next year then!
Rewis · 20/01/2022 14:10

We call them winter lights and they go up in October when it gets dark and take thwm away in march-april time when it gets light. Or that's how it's been in here as long as I remember.

TheKeatingFive · 20/01/2022 14:11

Tatty just screams Hyacinth doesn't it?!

I can just imagine the pompous, disgusted tone with which they spit out the word 😆
