To think that Angela Rayner could be PM one day.

I just think she's a breath of fresh air. She's real and authentic, she's come from a poor upbringing. She was her mums carer age 9, was a teenager mum, worked in social care and worked her way up the ladder. I just find it amazing that she's achieved all of this from how her life started. If she was running for PM and the next general election I will definitely be voting for her.

@LarryTheLurker

Coarse, aggressive, vulgar and ignorant, she is a divisive class warrior and a stain on the House of Commons. The 'many people' whose lives she allegedly understands are a small and unrepresentative minority whose concerns are already well looked after by others more sensible and mature.
Jesus Christ, what is wrong with you?
About10thusername · 19/01/2022 12:39

Of course she could.

DappledOliveGroves · 19/01/2022 12:41

She's awful. I'll take Boris any day over her. If she was ever PM then that really would mean that we'd relocate abroad.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 19/01/2022 12:43

She's not PM material.

Attack, provoque, agitate, yes. Lead, no.

@FKATondelayo

As a working class woman, the daughter of a single mum from Manchester who also happens to be a carer and the sister of a teenage mother I would like to say - FUCK NO. YABU.

The best I can say about AR is she proves that you don't have to have gone to Eton to be a nasty, mendacious idiot. She is just the different side of the coin to Jacob Rees Mogg - someone who thinks her personality and background count more than her actual abilities and accomplishments.

That said she does have great hair.

100% agree with this - its like her thinking has never progressed beyond GCSE politics level analysis. She’s awful. Would never vote for her.
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 19/01/2022 12:43

But it seems the OP has NC's for this. Why would you do that, OP, if you are so certain in her?

@PronounssheRa

Both Angela Raynor and Lisa Nandy signed a pledge which committed to expelling women who raise concerns about women's rights and safeguarding, from the Labour Party.

Lisa Nandy also thinks any male, including rapists who self declare themselves as women should be housed in women's prisons if they commit crimes.

So it's a no from me.

I agree.

I can't vote for any politician, regardless of party, who pretends to believe that biological sex no longer exists or matters.

Nor who deliberately conflates sex and gender to further obfuscate their demolition of women's sex based rights.

And definitely not one who attacks other women, looking to defend women and girls sex based rights and safeguarding, as bigots and phobics of the worst kind, and supports their exclusion from their political party.

I want to vote for a politician who has the integrity and bravery to speak that which they know is the truth, whether it is 'popular' or not on such matters.

It saddens me immensely that there are fewer and fewer people that I could consider voting for. I feel politically homeless for the first time ever.

CornishGem1975 · 19/01/2022 12:48

God I hope not.

I simply could not have put it better than this.

Shambolicatthleast · 19/01/2022 12:50

Every now and again when the tories are tanking in the polls, stuff like this appears on MN just to stop us getting any weird notions about voting for a different party.
You may have a lying, deceitful, amoral PM but hey you could have Angela Rayner.

Are people so stupid ? She’s not PM material, never will be, not a chance in hell of ever becoming one but her constituents like her and keep on electing her. Must be doing something right and the locals are obviously quite happy with the persona she presents, gobby, brash, common, badly dressed or whatever insult MNetters throw at her.
What’s the issue ? Plenty of plummy voiced slickly dressed sleezy tories get away with the same….

@IndigoC

I’d much prefer Lisa Nandy. She’s very bright and an eloquent speaker.
So bright that she's happy for rapists to be locked up in female prisons?

This with fucking bells on. I consider myself 'politically homeless' and desperately want a decent, sensible, credible left-wing party to vote for. I've long since hoped the Labour party can sort themselves out but if they have Angela Rayner at the helm I will definitely not be voting for them.
TheWhalrus · 19/01/2022 12:55

On experience and ability i'd say Angela Rayner probably could be PM...but you could say this about most members of the current Shadow Cabinet.

The real challenge to becoming PM is convincing enough swing voters: in Angela's case people who don't normally vote labour. to vote for her. Based on the previous comments i'd say this seems unlikely (BTW, this was Tony Blair's huge talent: getting traditional tory voters to like him).

Personally I don't mind Angela Rayner and feel that the UK could definitely do worse. I hope she has a key role in the next labour government (whenever that may be).

The snobbery on this thread is breathtaking

caringcarer · 19/01/2022 12:56

Loud mouth and uneducated. Made bad choices in her own life what makes you think she would make good choices for UK?

TooBigForMyBoots · 19/01/2022 12:57

YABU. The Sun, The Daily Mail and The Times would never allow it @Breathoffreshair82.Wink

Sasketchewoo · 19/01/2022 12:57

I also think she's a nasty provocative bully. I have quite a strong emotional reaction when I see her talk - she's contributing to the Labour Party being unelectable. I'd love to think differently, I'm all for more women from working class backgrounds being in politics!

You're assuming everyone posting is middle class and looking down at her. There are lots of people from a very similar background to AR on here!
AuntMasha · 19/01/2022 12:58

Labour voter here; no I really don’t warm to her and that’s an understatement.

Fairyliz · 19/01/2022 12:59

@AlternativePerspective

Imagine an election where your choice of leader was between Boris Johnson and Angela Rayner. 😱😱😱
@AlternativePerspective

Noooooooooo

oncemoreunto · 19/01/2022 12:59

It would be thoroughly depressing if the first Labour female prime minister was Angela Raynor.
She is not a good representation of what working class women can be.
