To think that Angela Rayner could be PM one day.

I just think she's a breath of fresh air. She's real and authentic, she's come from a poor upbringing. She was her mums carer age 9, was a teenager mum, worked in social care and worked her way up the ladder. I just find it amazing that she's achieved all of this from how her life started. If she was running for PM and the next general election I will definitely be voting for her.

I would never be a politician. You could not pay me enough. But, that said, people not dissimilar to me used to consider that a stint in politics after retirement was a payback to society, regardless of their political affiliation.

XingMing · 23/01/2022 18:05

Have you listened to Diane Abbott being interviewed? I know she's a Cambridge graduate and black, but her inability to produce the facts and figures from her supposed areas of expertise ( as on Woman's Hour) fell breathtakingly short of competence.

Andante57 · 23/01/2022 18:21

Her vilification is appalling no matter what your politics

Snoopsnog would you say that about Tory politicians who are vilified?

XingMing · 23/01/2022 18:37

Sorry @Andante57, but i listen to a lot of live political radio. Diane Abbott isn't being vilified, she's just not very able, as in she doesn't know her facts, isn't able to deliver any repartee, and can't argue a case, any case. She's just not very good at being an MP, and that's all there is too it.

XingMing · 23/01/2022 18:39

..to it... apologies for the grammar lapse.

SantaClawsServiette · 23/01/2022 18:46

I think she is too divisive, I can't see her holding the party together.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 23/01/2022 18:58

plus it makes her stance on the Matt Hancock debacle somewhat hypocritical.
In the unlikely event that it’s true and not just another nasty baseless rumour from people who hate her, she would still not have been doing the same level of hypocrisy as Hancock.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 23/01/2022 19:01

It’s only vilification if it’s unjustified imho. I don’t have any problem with the liars and corrupt being taken to task.
Andante57 · 23/01/2022 19:11

XingMing I agree with you - I’m not a fan of Diane Abbott either.

XingMing · 23/01/2022 19:22

Sorry @Andante57 it was the wrong response to the wrong poster. Diane Abbot and Angela Raynor are both inadequate in top level politics.

Davina69 · 23/01/2022 19:29

Definitely not. She's not PM material and after she called Tory voters scum, I cannot understand why any of the red wall voters would return to Labour

heelforheelandtoefortoe · 23/01/2022 20:26

I dislike her immensely (and I vote Labour)

HelloFrostyMorning · 23/01/2022 20:39

OH NO! The horror! Shock I can't STAND her! Thankfully the poll results agree! (With ME!)

HelloFrostyMorning · 23/01/2022 20:42

@AlternativePerspective

Imagine an election where your choice of leader was between Boris Johnson and Angela Rayner. 😱😱😱
If there were others on the polling card, I wouldn't vote.
TooBigForMyBoots · 23/01/2022 21:02

When did she call Tory voters "scum" @Davina69?Shock

shergarsrevenge · 23/01/2022 21:27

@XingMing ah you live in AR's constituency so you are justified in calling her ability as an MP into question ?
And since when was 'repartee' the sign of an able MP ? Don't you think we've had enough of charismatic leaders with the gift of the gab ?
Funnily enough Diane Abbott has always been the butt of cruel jokes and banter yet her constituency seem to love her...might not like her politics but at least recognise that getting into oxbridge was not an easy feat.

shergarsrevenge · 23/01/2022 21:33

The scum remark was addressed to attendees at the tory party conference and after a threatening email was sent to her. She also apologised unlike our PM.
No one seriously thinks she will ever become PM. The whole thread is just a wind up to distract as usual.

ItsCoachBombay · 23/01/2022 21:58

Oh god no! Every time I see her speak or stand up I eye roll.

shergarsrevenge · 23/01/2022 22:00

Oh wow Hmm

longwayoff · 23/01/2022 22:10

Crikey, she's popular enough to be trashed by the DM. Tories must be worried.

TooBigForMyBoots · 24/01/2022 09:43

@Davina69, she didn't call voters "scum".

Davina69 · 24/01/2022 09:50
@Davina69, she didn't call voters "scum".
She called Tory's scum. I can't see many people that once voted Labour and decided to vote Tory at the last election, feeling particularly happy about returning to Labour if they're going to be labelled scum. She's unprofessional and unfit for frontline politics. There are a lot of people in all walks of life that had a tougher start on life than she did and her 'woe is me' ignorant routine would make us a laughing stock on the global stage

longwayoff · 24/01/2022 09:56

Dont worry about those returning voters, they've been able to see exactly what the Tories are. No need for AR to be explicit when the Tories have made it so perfectly clear themselves.

Dentistlakes · 24/01/2022 09:57

I hope not, I think she’s awful.
