To think that Angela Rayner could be PM one day.

I just think she's a breath of fresh air. She's real and authentic, she's come from a poor upbringing. She was her mums carer age 9, was a teenager mum, worked in social care and worked her way up the ladder. I just find it amazing that she's achieved all of this from how her life started. If she was running for PM and the next general election I will definitely be voting for her.

@mushroom3

Lisa Nandy could hold her own as a PM
Lisa Nandy, you HAVE to be joking!
JugglingJanuary · 20/01/2022 17:21

@PronounssheRa

Both Angela Raynor and Lisa Nandy signed a pledge which committed to expelling women who raise concerns about women's rights and safeguarding, from the Labour Party.

Lisa Nandy also thinks any male, including rapists who self declare themselves as women should be housed in women's prisons if they commit crimes.

So it's a no from me.

Do you have a source for that?

RE AR. LN I have NO time for.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/01/2022 17:36

Lisa Nandy was asked at a hustings during the leadership campaign and she confirmed she would allow a specific male sex offender who preyed on children to be placed in a women's prison if they identified as a woman.

Seems to be polarising. A lot of people can't stand her.

SueSaid · 20/01/2022 17:46

'She will never be PM though , I think that is pretty clear as not the right background ( wrong hair too apparently)'

Oh come on, we have thread after thread about Johnson's messy hair, surely commenting on Rayner's overdone ringlets isn't that offensive?

She will never be pm I hope. Not because of her background, more the gaffes she makes repeatedly. For example raving about the fantastic opportunities she had in 1996..when the Tories were in. Mixing up Sadiq and Sajid (twice) been another. Attacking a Conservative candidate who lived in the cayman Islands saying her dh was a tax dodging banker when her husband was a barrister working on anti corruption.

She is just an embarrassment and it is nothing to do with her accent, she just isn't very bright.

PlanetNormal · 20/01/2022 17:49

I hope the Labour Party has more sense than to elect Rayner as leader. Given that they elected Corbyn, however, I might be disappointed. For context, I voted for David Miliband in the 2010 leadership election and for Yvette Cooper in 2015.

Rayner has obviously done well to get into Parliament from such a humble background but, to put it as politely as possible, she comes across as not being particularly bright. I would have serious concerns that she would not be seen by the public as a credible candidate to be PM.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 20/01/2022 17:53

Lay off her hair, it's the beast thing about her.

Yes why did they vote for gormless Ed over David?! Closest thing they'd ever get to being electable. They need a cool, calm leader who is convincing. Not the bumbling crew they currently have.

@Yerroblemom1923

I think AR needs to be given a chance and there IS a lot of snobbery on MN - she speaks with an accent, she's Northern, she calls a spade a spade, she comes from a WC background......but what has Eton born and bred Boris done for us??! Well he talks posh and he's Eton educated so all's well.....
She really doesn’t call a spade a spade, only if the spade identifies as a spade then it is a spade.

I can’t respect anyone who denies reality and insists other people do too and who claims to be enlightened because they come from vulnerable beginnings, but is very happy to throw the most vulnerable women in our society to the fate of the woke agenda.

ThinWomansBrain · 20/01/2022 18:02

She'd be an embarassment as PM (but with Boris we're used to that,
Would be very supportive of Jess Phillips.

Snoozer11 · 20/01/2022 18:20

There's a huge difference between having an accent and sounding like Angela Rayner.

You can have an accent and sound professional at the same time. Rayner doesn't sound even remotely professional.

It's about tone, and making the effort to sound pleasant. You shouldn't use the same voice with clients as you do with your husband.

And as for a poor background, she once claimed her mother would serve her dog food because she couldn't read. Completely ignoring the fact that dog food is found in the dog food aisle, and generally has a picture of a dog on it.

lljkk · 20/01/2022 18:31

I like Raynor a lot. She'll never be PM. Is she the next incarnation of Dennis Skinner, maybe.

I like Lisa Nandy too!

KateofGhent · 20/01/2022 18:45

@LarryTheLurker

Coarse, aggressive, vulgar and ignorant, she is a divisive class warrior and a stain on the House of Commons. The 'many people' whose lives she allegedly understands are a small and unrepresentative minority whose concerns are already well looked after by others more sensible and mature.
Haven't read the full thread yet, but this. I've also heard her being described as John Prescot in a dress, and Baroness Rayner of Ashton under Lyne. Prezza's diction and grammar were appalling too, not for the world stage, but ok at Oldham Town Hall.
llanfair11 · 20/01/2022 18:58

The Labour Party have never elected a woman as leader, indeed whenever any have stood they have come last or the lowest of all candidates.

Can't see it happening.

Misogyny is clearly a historical problem
Darbs76 · 20/01/2022 19:00

Because she’s working class and northern people assume she’s not bright enough

Aishah231 · 20/01/2022 19:10

My issue with her is I have no idea what she stands for. She seems to me to be someone who'll agree with anyone who'll give her a promotion.

Absolutely 💯 this. Neither of them have any interest in safeguarding women from the worst excesses of men. Neither of them would ever get my vote
vintagesewingmachine · 20/01/2022 19:37

Oh, good grief, I hope not!

donquixotedelamancha · 20/01/2022 19:47

Not at all. Being from a similar background to me is a big plus. I don't have any time for the snobbery about how she looks and sounds.

The problem is that she doesn't give a shit about practical issues affecting the poor and seems only interested in playing politics rather than achieving anything.

She's just as out of touch as Johnson in her own way.

Shambolicatthleast · 20/01/2022 19:48

It was a troll post as everyone really knows. Much like JRM becoming PM.

Shambolicatthleast · 20/01/2022 19:51

@donquixotedelamancha which policies show she doesn't understand 'real' wc folk ? Her constituents seem to think she does. Or do you know better ?

Shambolicatthleast · 20/01/2022 19:54

Ah and the Old chestnut 'playing politics' surely you can do better than regurgitating the old has been Johnson That's what opposition parties are supposed to do ?

NorthSouthcatlady · 20/01/2022 20:02

@PlanktonsComputerWife what kind of howlers has she made? I’m not saying you’re wrong, l just haven’t heard about any of them (yet!)
