To be really enjoying Boris Johnson's downfall?

I know he'll be replaced by someone equally awful and I know he's not quite gone yet, but I can't remember when I felt uplifted about politics and the ejection of this national embarrassment is warming my cockles. Anyone else feel the same?

OP posts:
BurnDownTheDiscoHangTheDJ · 19/01/2022 10:42

Just heard on the radio that he reportedly broke down in tears in cabinet yesterday. Not many people I would laugh at for showing such emotion but BJ is one of them. Karma is a bitch.

the80sweregreat · 19/01/2022 10:44

The political parties clearly can ' organize a piss up ' as demonstrated on several occasions over
lockdowns and years before as well no doubt.
They all seem to like their wine and cheese , I've learnt that much. At least Starmer is a beer man, but he was probably vague on the rules too at that time to be indoors with a number of people against the rules even if it was work. It Seems they all need to be investigated??

It's clear though that our PM is a broken man and his ability to lead must be diminished by all this , meanwhile the rest of the county burns with higher costs looming and an eye watering national debt and Russia is gearing up for war:(
Any new leader needs to be a strong personality to clear up a lot of shit. It's a poisoned chalice.
Who wants to have any of this on their plates?

SueSaid · 19/01/2022 10:45

'I'd love to know when Labour are deemed electable.'

They need a convincing leader and a convincing deputy and they have neither. I'd happily vote for them if they ever become credible. Thank God they weren't in power the last 2 years.

MyOtherProfile · 19/01/2022 10:45

Was that because someone is threatening to take his ball away?

NiceShrubbery · 19/01/2022 10:45

Yanbu OP, as long as you're aware that he'll be knighted for this, and so will the rat that takes over.

Mumsnet HQ, please make it easier to post memes and fun stuff, as we'll be needing lots xx

merrymouse · 19/01/2022 10:45

@Toanewstart22

We have experienced an unprecedented and appalling situation over last few years

And yet I would hazard a guess that most of the posters on this thread still have their jobs; their children are at school; they have been triple jabbed; and their considering booking their summer holiday abroad

All presided over by a conservative gov with Boris at the helm

Except he very obviously wasn’t at the helm and was just reading an autocue. The words weren’t going in.
ClaudineClare · 19/01/2022 10:46

Yeah I just heard that. I have zero sympathy too. His tears are all for himself and not for the suffering that went on while he was partying.
SueSaid · 19/01/2022 10:48

'Just heard on the radio that he reportedly broke down in tears in cabinet yesterday'

Jesus. Says who, Beth Rigby?! You must stop believing all the shite they spout.

Shambolicatthleast · 19/01/2022 10:49

And the comment that we have recovered economically more quickly than Germany is debatable. Telegraph says yes, Guardian no ....whereas the lefty financial times suggests our recovery will be slower than our EU counterparts.I
Funnily enough the attitude of some of the tory supporters on here mirrors what the same folk were accusing labour of last year. Not listening to the electorate, in an ivory tower isolated from ordinary peoples' everyday lives. Funny that Confused

youboozeyoulose · 19/01/2022 10:49

@JaniieJones

OK, perhaps you could explain why we are being "played" and what the end game is?'

Erm, to get Johnson out Confused. Cummings is like a bitter ex and the leftie media are of course desperate for any excuse to get shot of him, have an election and get back into the EU.

We need stability not the constant Jezza Kyle style telly reporters gossiping.

Lol. So this is down to the "leftie" media? Clutching at straws now. Which news outlets are you suggesting are "leftie"? Daily Mail? Sky News?

Or could it be right and left leaning news outlets are reporting on the inevitable downfall of a PM who lied, lied and lied again?

Sure sign someone is losing an argument when they start blaming the meeja

BurnDownTheDiscoHangTheDJ · 19/01/2022 10:49

@Blessex @CamomileTeabag was so polite there. Please get your head out of your arse. If you can't vote for either of the two other main parties because of self ID then fine, but Instead of voting Tory please just dont vote mate. These arseholes have lied, schemed, lined their own pockets, underfunded vital services and fucked the country. Don't give them your vote because to do so knowing what they are only makes you as bad as them.

SueSaid · 19/01/2022 10:50

'His tears are all for himself and not for the suffering that went on while he was partying'

Partying. Aka eating and drinking at work. As Labour did..

Hospedia · 19/01/2022 10:52

The people "partying" were all working together anyway so I don't see how it matters. It's like when people go on about Matt Hancocks affair...he was working with her anyway so it wasn't really a breach of social distancing etc.

It matters because people were dying alone without the comfort of family around them, their funerals were then restricted with no wake.

It matters because people needlessly died of non-covid causes due to not being able to access healthcare.

It matters because people gave up everything outside of the four walls of their house, some people spent that entire time completely alone before bubbles were allowed.

It matters because women had to deliver babies alone, lose babies alone, go to diagnostic scans alone.

It matters because people had to attend hospital appointments alone, receiving life changing diagnosis' alone, go through surgical recoveries, cancer treatments, palliative care, etc alone.

It matters because people lost their jobs, their businesses, their livelihoods.

It matters because children missed out on months of education, months of face to face learning, and months of peer interaction. Time they will never get back and that is going to take them years to recover from.

It matters because we are facing an unprecedented mental health crisis, a rise in inflation, and a huge rise in cost of living.

It matters because we are going to paying for covid for decades to come.

It matters disabled adults and children were completely thrown under the bus with no respite care, special schools closed, and no access to therapies and interventions.

It matters because people, mainly women and children, were locked away with their abusers for months on end with no one checking to see what was going on.

It matters because people couldn't see their families and friends for months, two years in some cases, and that takes a toll.

It matters because they told everyone that we were all in it together, that we had to make these sacrifices for the greater good, that it would be worth it, that nit following the rules would endanger us and would harm others.

And now it turns out that we weren't all in it together, that the people who were supposed to be leading us in this were instead taking part in a game of "do as I say not as I do", that they were having a jolly old time while the rest of us were basically getting fucked by covid. They've undermined every last shred of public confidence, why should anyone do anything Johnson says now? He has no moral authority.

Shambolicatthleast · 19/01/2022 10:53

come on then @JaniieJones surprise us. What's convincing about Johnson, Patel, Shaps, Raab ?

SueSaid · 19/01/2022 10:53

'These arseholes have lied, schemed, lined their own pockets, underfunded vital services and fucked the country'

Fucked the country 🙄. How?! We have the fastest growth, we are coming out of the pandemic, we had Freedom day in July despite Starmer's wibbling and flapping, we have the least restrictions in the UK, more people in jobs than pre pandemic but don't let facts spoil your bile fest.

Panemetcircenses1 · 19/01/2022 10:55

I do not think Boris Johnson is up to the current job profile. He was voted in for Brexit. However, we then got the double whammy of pandemic thrown into the mix.
It is the most turbulent time in British history in recent memory. Arguably, worse than the Second World War.
Boris Johnson is more focussed on having a laugh, a nice little family etc I just don’t think he is good enough to lead the country in this turbulent time period. We need a strong leader with a clear vision willing to make some hard decisions.
I think even Rishi Sunak despite his inexperience could be a better PM. We need someone young in the centre. We need investment in industry in the North etc. We need to build a new Britain from these ashes.

Goldenbear · 19/01/2022 10:55

CamomileTeabag, yes but this path to 'autocracy' has not been challenged by a decent Opposition. Where are they, what have they been doing, what does Starmer stand for? Of course Opposition is relevant in a functioning democracy, how can the Labour Party not be part of the solution. They should seize their chance now, they have been handed a huge advantage, lets hope they actually realise this rather than just spouting vague, sanctimonious platitudes!

DebbieHarrysCheekbones · 19/01/2022 10:55

@ShirleyPhallus

I really don’t see how anyone can feel positive about this tbh. I hope the people that voted him in feel some embarrassment / contrition and make better choices next time.
Don’t expect contrition or anything else. If you are a fan of that man and think he was a good idea for this country then you are beyond hope. Anyone who voted for the Tory party with Boris Johnson to be at the helm as PM falls into the one of many ignorant gullible self saboteurs or the too rich to give a shit brigade. Either group are harming this country as much as that chump is and has.
LampLighter414 · 19/01/2022 10:55

Downfall?

He'll be going absolutely nowhere. 100%

MarshaBradyo · 19/01/2022 10:56

I did ask upthread but it hasn’t been answered - how is everyone being “played” by Cummings?

As much as I loathe him I admit he is very good at communication / strategy. He knows that dragging it out and repeating the same issues over and over will whip people up.

It’s similar to the petrol crisis which ran off the back of media frenzy. We’re really susceptible to it and the media love click bait and sales. So off we go following the pied piper - only this time it’s Cummings.

ClaudineClare · 19/01/2022 10:56

@JaniieJones

'Just heard on the radio that he reportedly broke down in tears in cabinet yesterday'

Jesus. Says who, Beth Rigby?! You must stop believing all the shite they spout.

Actually you have a point, is Johnson really capable of such an emotion?
SueSaid · 19/01/2022 10:57

'It matters because people were dying alone without the comfort of family around them, their funerals were then restricted with no wake.'

Omg and if Johnson went to a funeral with 100 people and a knees up afterwards you'd have point, but he didn't so you don't.

The rest of your 'it matters' speech @Hospedia is because there was a pandemic. Same shit going on globally and I bet other governments had beer and takeaways too (like labour..)

DebbieHarrysCheekbones · 19/01/2022 10:58

@LampLighter414

Downfall?

He'll be going absolutely nowhere. 100%

I fear you are entirely correct
DebbieHarrysCheekbones · 19/01/2022 11:03

It’s a dark dark day in British politics when Liz Truss is being touted as the next Prime Minister. When someone with the intellectual reach of a turd is being touted as the leader. She makes Boris Johnson look like some sort of luminary and therein I suppose lies part of the problem.

She reminds me of one of those inept public sector managers on whacking salaries sat there in meetings saying and contributing nothing whilst farting about with her Radley pen and shuffling bits of paper. Non event.

Shambolicatthleast · 19/01/2022 11:03

The financial times would disagree with that Hmm
And surely if everything was hunky dory pre covid we wouldn't need levelling up after 12 years tory government ? New labour was a blip, the atrocious state of the UK's public services, the inequality in wealth etc are all on the Tories, being overwhelmingly the party of government the last 100 years.
