I know he'll be replaced by someone equally awful and I know he's not quite gone yet, but I can't remember when I felt uplifted about politics and the ejection of this national embarrassment is warming my cockles. Anyone else feel the same?

The legislation was drawn up by the Conservatives and therefore was a government backed bill.
The PM would have been extensively briefed.

He can't pretend it was nothing to do with him.

SueSaid · 19/01/2022 15:52

'It is such a shame that on Monday the government were trying hard to dismantle the institution with the most unbiased reporters you have.'

The BBC? Grin

@AnyFucker

Don't you feel a little foolish trying to defend Big Dog

Don’t you feel a little foolish using the term “Big Dog” ? Confused

Only using the name that Big Dog apparently likes to call himself. Or is it Carrie likes to call him.

If you think it is foolish, then that is probably just a reflection of the man.

Don't forget that the very same Prime Minister was on our TV screens 10 days before the party explaining what social distancing was and the new lockdown rules. But no one had told him what they were!

I am sorry that you did not manage to read all of my original post. Here is the bit that you failed to quote.

@JaniieJones would you agree that the red meat that was chucked out on Monday about defunding the BBC was ridiculous?

SueSaid · 19/01/2022 15:57

'Don't forget that the very same Prime Minister was on our TV screens 10 days before the party explaining what social distancing was and the new lockdown rules.'

For socialising. Work colleagues at work were different as we saw demonstrated by Starmer working v v hard clutching a beer and eating snacks.

VonHaus · 19/01/2022 15:59

Yes and no.

Yes, I’m celebrating his probable downfall. No in the sense that the circumstances have caused a lot of distress to a lot of people.

And no in the sense that it’s probably Liz Truss up next Confused

ClaudineClare · 19/01/2022 16:01

I am worried now that he is going to survive this, unless Sue Gray's report reveals something we haven't heard about yet.

derxa · 19/01/2022 16:03

I support Boris

ClaudineClare · 19/01/2022 16:03

I am going to start a bingo card for JJ's incessant mentions of Keir's beer.

As long as you don't have a drink each time, you should be ok.

I couldn’t believe he brought that up, true barrel scraping at its worst.
Alexandra2001 · 19/01/2022 16:23

@MarshaBradyo

Did he?

Cases falling, hospitalisation too. Would you have preferred the lockdown that was called for by many?

...again, not by Starmer, Labour just didn't call for a LD, they called for earlier introduction of plan B... as did the scientists, delayed by Boris to save his skin... its not the way to handle a pandemic.

Infections are still very hi, R still above 1,
Look i want the restrictions lifted all of them... but it has to be done following the science and the ONS household infection survey, shows a smaller fall in cases.

following Steve Baker on this isn't a great idea.

Blossomtoes · 19/01/2022 16:30

@the80sweregreat

I said it a few threads back on one of the many threads about this that he will survive ! I was flamed, but seems that nothing can bring him down and Cummings has also run out of steam now too. Unless he has something else up his sleeve , this could all fizzle out in time. The LP will need a new angle to get him to resign.
It’s a bit soon to say that.
merrymouse · 19/01/2022 16:33

Work colleagues at work were different

They weren’t at work, they were at a party. Nobody disputes this.

You must know this because it had been pointed out enough times.

Why do you keep posting this?

ENoeuf · 19/01/2022 16:36

He’s all cheery and a dick when he’s got his mates round him - they all stick up for each other so he knows he will get a good reaction. Him shaking his head and smirking, looking at his watch while Blackford spoke, what a rude arrogant bastard.

TwentyFirstCenturyTricoteuse · 19/01/2022 16:38

@JaniieJones why did the government not have a better pandemic plan so they didn't have to buy PPE at horrendous markups? They'd been warned for years and years that a pandemic was on its way. It was top of the National Risk Register. They'd done a trial run that flagged the weaknesses in planning. They failed to do anything about it.

Florianus · 19/01/2022 16:40

R still above 1

In London R is currently between 0.7 and 1.1 according to UKHSA.

SueSaid · 19/01/2022 16:40

'looking at his watch while Blackford spoke, what a rude arrogant bastard.'

I thought it was funny. Blackford does go on a bit to put it mildly.

TwentyFirstCenturyTricoteuse · 19/01/2022 16:43

And yet I would hazard a guess that most of the posters on this thread still have their jobs; their children are at school; they have been triple jabbed; and their considering booking their summer holiday abroad

Well, the 170,000 people who died aren't on here, that's for sure. I live in Europe, triple jabbed before my UK family. My kids have been at school throughout bar one month at the very start and also got jabbed before kids their age in the UK. My covid pass lets me travel across national borders on a daily basis. Not too bad, eh?

@JaniieJones I don't think you saw my earlier post asking if you thought that David Davies was pathetic and ranting?

But you have not taken back control of your borders, all y9ur laws are made in Brussels and you don't have crowns on pint glasses or lower taxes on domestic flights.
ENoeuf · 19/01/2022 16:45

Things are sometimes funny but showmanship and playing to the crony crowd is a bit shit when the actual subject is a pandemic where 1000s have died.

They weren’t at work, they were at a party.

The only proof is what it said on the invitation: "some socially distanced drinks". It was not an invitation to a party, which is one of the several reasons why the Met won't be dragged in to investigate it. When push come to shove, it has to be decided whether or not "socially distanced drinks" for workers in their own workplace was against the regulations. If it was, I dare say the person who organised it will be named by Sue Gray and probably dismissed in due course.
