To be really enjoying Boris Johnson's downfall?

I know he'll be replaced by someone equally awful and I know he's not quite gone yet, but I can't remember when I felt uplifted about politics and the ejection of this national embarrassment is warming my cockles. Anyone else feel the same?

@JaniieJones

'Yes, I concede that the procurement of vaccines and speed of rollout was great, however, this was almost a year ago he’s draining the last drop out of that tanker and diminishing his own achievement by using them so cheaply.'

The eating and drinking whilst at work was May 2020. So either historical stuff is relevant or it isn't.

He wasn't eating and drinking in May 2020, he and his Government were breaking the Law, the law he set, his and ministers and the medics banged on and on and on about and how important it was we kept to rules...... to quote "To Save Lives"

...meanwhile in no10 Party street, its was "Do as thou wilt shall be the whole of the law"
'He needs to go because he lied.'
'He needs to go because he's incompetent'
'He needs to go because he has blood on his hands.'

The inquiry will find if he lied.
He isn't incompetent, did you watch PMQs if so you'd have heard we are coming out of the pandemic in a strong position.
It was a pandemic, people sadly died. Deaths per million (2200) not much different to many other countries inc Italy Spain and France www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/
@JaniieJones Please remind me what is the current rate of inflation?
Is it being the biggest number for 30 years a good thing?
Big numbers are good right?

the80sweregreat · 19/01/2022 15:17

I said it a few threads back on one of the many threads about this that he will survive !
I was flamed, but seems that nothing can bring him down and Cummings has also run out of steam now too. Unless he has something else up his sleeve , this could all fizzle out in time.
The LP will need a new angle to get him to resign.

SueSaid · 19/01/2022 15:20

'He wasn't eating and drinking in May 2020, he and his Government were breaking the Law'

Are you Sue Grey? If not how on earth have you concluded this without seeing all the relevant information, or are you just using the media as your source?

They may have broken the law in which case it is serious and he should resign, or they may have been eating and drinking in the workplace with work colleagues which wasn't breaking the law as others did. We'll have to see won't we.

luckylavender · 19/01/2022 15:20

@mellongoose

It's a massive distraction at a time when the country needs stability. It is no good for anyone. But, of course, Dominic Cummings, the master strategist knows this.
The country deserves a better Leader. No good putting it off as the longer he stays, the more he trashes his Office & makes the U.K. look more of a laughing stock.
SueSaid · 19/01/2022 15:21

'Cummings has also run out of steam now too. Unless he has something else up his sleeve '

He is bound to have a killer blow. Saving it for the last minute..

The Labour party don't need to get him to resign, it would suit them well to have him in post come the next GE.
VikingOnTheFridge · 19/01/2022 15:25

@JaniieJones

It's been reported (Sky news so maybe take it with a pinch of salt) some MPs withdrawing their votes of no confidence after Johnson's storming performance in PMQs.
Wonder if it was him claiming not to be familiar with a really famous quote from a man he wrote a book about that did it.
luckylavender · 19/01/2022 15:26

@sashagabadon

No but then I don’t feel happy at anyone being bullied out of a job. I felt the same way about Major, Brown and May and I’ll feel the same way about the next PM too. It’s an almost impossible job and it boggles my mind why anyone wants to do it. I also think we are being played by Cummings here and it’s because ultimately he wants a more Brexity Brexit and I think Johnson isn’t Brexit enough. I think anyone that still supports Remain being pleased about Boris going is foolish.
He wouldn't mind who he walked over or threw to the wolves so I have no sympathy. As for being bullied, he didn't deal with his own HS when she was found guilty of bullying civil servants. I don't trust Cummings but how stupid can you be to antagonise someone so much and let them walk away with this amount of 'dirt' on you. Cummings doesn't care about Brexit, he has said it may be a bad idea.

@JaniieJones We don't need Sue Grey (sic) to know that Big Dog was breaking the law.

Don't you feel a little foolish trying to defend Big Dog, when the story started, you were saying there were no parties, then that Boris didn't attend, then that it was a work event. Yesterday Boris' defence was that no one told him that it was a party and against the law.

Even Boris isn't saying there weren't parties any more.

100 people were invited to a party, bring your own booze. 30odd turned up, the Prime Minister was there for 25minutes. What other possible evidence could one need?

Alexandra2001 · 19/01/2022 15:27

@MarshaBradyo

The trouble is Starmer only has one thing to go on about

He was pro restrictions and got it wrong

Did he?

438 people died of CV yesterday, the highest number since last February (24hr period) Hospitalisations still v high and NHS absences high too.

Remember why restrictions are being removed .... to save Boris from his back benchers.

SueSaid · 19/01/2022 15:28

'Please remind me what is the current rate of inflation?Is it being the biggest number for 30 years a good thing?Big numbers are good right?'

It's a global thing. I don't pretend to understand but in basic terms it's pandemic after effects I believe. Did you think once numbers were down and masks weren't mandatory it would all be hunky dory? Think it's more complex than that.

I'm not defending him, if they knowingly broke the law then it is serious, if was work it isn't. We just don't know the ins and outs do we.

Successful vaccine roll outs are a global (well rich country) thing as well.
Did you not stop to check whether other countries had vaccinated people as well @JaniieJones?

errr he admits two parties took place on the eve of Phillips funeral ... against the law, that he himself attended a party BUT no one told him it was party... again against the law....

Ignorance is no excuse, try offering that as a defence if you were done for speeding but didn't see the signs?

He has broken the law by his own admissions.

luckylavender · 19/01/2022 15:32

@Toanewstart22

Hard to enjoy his downfall when I’m sitting here triple jabbed, my children are enjoying all normal activities and life at school and the furlough scheme was an enormous help to me

So no…. I’m sitting here not enjoying his downfall

And you think that's all down to him?

Sorry but you have spent the last few weeks defending him, now as it all crumbles around him, your backtracking slightly.....
BashStreetKid · 19/01/2022 15:35

One of the most enjoyable aspects is watching the way Certain Posters on MN tie themselves up into the most ludicrous knots trying to defend the indefensible. And speculating why they're putting so much effort into it, given that he can't last till the next election anyway.

SueSaid · 19/01/2022 15:36

Love how the media gossipers/reporters were saying Graham Brady was making a statement this morning, he didn't. Then that BJ was in tears, others report this is utter bollocks.

We need some actual unbiased reporters who can report not just gossip.

Don’t you feel a little foolish using the term “Big Dog” ? Confused

Johnson admitted it didn't he? So we don't need to wait for Sue Gray for that bit.

Prime ministers do not "set" laws. Laws are created by parliament.

Cases falling, hospitalisation too. Would you have preferred the lockdown that was called for by many?

In which the majority is held by the Prime Minister's party, controlled by his party Whips. It's idle, and really pretty desperate, to pretend the laws were nothing to do with him.

It is such a shame that on Monday the government were trying hard to dismantle the institution with the most unbiased reporters you have.

@JaniieJones would you agree that the red meat that was chucked out on Monday about defunding the BBC was ridiculous?
