I know he'll be replaced by someone equally awful and I know he's not quite gone yet, but I can't remember when I felt uplifted about politics and the ejection of this national embarrassment is warming my cockles. Anyone else feel the same?

@Florianus

They weren’t at work, they were at a party.

The only proof is what it said on the invitation: "some socially distanced drinks". It was not an invitation to a party, which is one of the several reasons why the Met won't be dragged in to investigate it. When push come to shove, it has to be decided whether or not "socially distanced drinks" for workers in their own workplace was against the regulations. If it was, I dare say the person who organised it will be named by Sue Gray and probably dismissed in due course.

@Florianus Are you another of these posters paid by Tory HQ to post this repeatedly on here?
SueSaid · 19/01/2022 16:52

'Blackford is unbearable to listen to'

'Resign Prime Minister!! RESIGN!!!!' said every week ad nauseam. What a silly man. Why don't they put someone in who could challenge and question professionally instead of that figure of ridicule.

SueSaid · 19/01/2022 16:54

Oh dear. We are getting paid if we point out the inconvenient facts. Riiiiight. .

RestingStitchFace · 19/01/2022 16:54

He's not gone until he's gone!

This - Boris is like a cockroach, annoyingly resilient and difficult to annihilate...

We don’t need Sue Gray to name the author of the email, we all know it was Martin Reynolds. We also know that at least two people who received the email pointed out that such a gathering would be illegal and that the PM said that in retrospect he should have sent all the attendees back inside.

@JaniieJones I think you probably didn't see my earlier post asking if you thought that David Davies was ranting and pathetic?

May I add to my question is David Davies a silly man?

'Florianus Are you another of these posters paid by Tory HQ to post this repeatedly on here?'

Oh dear. We are getting paid if we point out the inconvenient facts. Riiiiight. .

Facts?

Here are the facts about the May 20th 2020 party.

10 days before the party the Prime Minister set out the new slightly eased lockdown rules, and particularly stressed that if we did meet one person from outside our household it must be outdoors and we must remain socially distanced and there was an increased fine for not doing so.

Martin Reynolds invited 100 Downing Street staff to a party on 20th May 2020 as per his email that included an instruction to bring your own bottle. Martin Reynolds is the PPS to Boris Johnson.

25+ people attended the party.

The Prime Minister attended the party for 25minutes with his wife.

Which facts are missing that you would like to point out?
Not opinions, not statements that it wasn't a party, but actual facts?

SueSaid · 19/01/2022 17:07

Facts - people at work were allowed to eat and drink at the workplace. Downing Street was their workplace.
Facts - BJ attended the event at 6pm for 25mins. He was hardly on the karaoke at 2am. That would have been a party.

CMZ2018 · 19/01/2022 17:09

Even if they get the 54 letters it’s not a shoe in that he’ll be gone. Don’t get your little self too excited yet

No idea why you are posting, but I don’t for one moment think you are from Tory HQ. By offering excuses that even Johnson wouldn’t use, you are making him look even worse.

merrymouse · 19/01/2022 17:12

This was a social event.

You appear to think he is stupid.

His downfall. ConfusedHe'll hardly end up destitute and starving will he.

No. I am simply trying to get people to see the truth instead of having the wool constantly pulled over their eyes by the popular press.

@JaniieJones I think I asked you this before, but since you want to discuss 25minutes again, I shall ask you again.

If I broke into your house and was there for less than 25 minutes have I been in your house?

Florianus · 19/01/2022 17:25

Martin Reynolds invited 100 Downing Street staff to a party on 20th May 2020 as per his email

Where in that email does it say "party" ?

SueSaid · 19/01/2022 17:29

'If I broke into your house and was there for less than 25 minutes have I been in your house?'

Yes, yes you would have been in my house. However if I worked with you and you came outside into a communal area to have a sandwich that would be work colleagues eating at work. Not having a 'party'.

Zonder · 19/01/2022 17:32

Johnson has admitted it was a party. His issue is that nobody told him it was against the rules.

It has been admitted that many of the 100 invited don't actually work at Downing Street.

This wasn't people just staying in work for a bite to eat mid slog. They actually were told to bring their own and there was someone being DJ and dancing.

And still people compare it to pics of KS and actual colleagues with take away in the office and their sleeves up as they're still working!

@JaniieJones I am glad you agree that Boris was at the party on 20th May 2020. I thought we about to go around in the rather bizarre circle about 25minutes not being enough time to be there again.

The only thing that matters is what appears in Sue Gray's report. I have no doubt that she will name Reynolds, but saying that "we all know" who it was is irrelevant.

There you go again with your "we all know". What we all know is that Downing Street has denied that that was pointed out to the PM - and, indeed, it is very doubtful that it was illegal, given the disinclination of the Met to get involved in a highly debatable matter.

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 19/01/2022 17:36
'He needs to go because he lied.'
'He needs to go because he's incompetent'
'He needs to go because he has blood on his hands.'

The inquiry will find if he lied.
He isn't incompetent, did you watch PMQs if so you'd have heard we are coming out of the pandemic in a strong position.
It was a pandemic, people sadly died. Deaths per million (2200) not much different to many other countries inc Italy Spain and France www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/
He lied to the last person they gave the task of investigating him!! 😂 (the thousands he took from a donor to do up his flat & then forgot about). And so many other lies.

He's incompetent - immediately after the Barnard Castle debacle he went to a party in the garden and didn't think 'this won't look good if anyone heard about it, maybe it's a bad idea'. Regardless of whether he thought he was at a party or a work event somehow within a set of rules no one else saw. His judgement at that moment was incredibly flawed. Any competent leader would have made it crystal clear there would be zero tolerance of anything that even stretched the rules after Cummings trip. Yet people partied into the night in his garden, confident of not getting in trouble.

The excess death toll is 60% higher than comparable countries like France and Germany. That's appalling mismanagement. Yes the pandemic hit but Boris & Co had overseen the destruction of the NHS (less than half the number of beds of France or Germany and working to 90% full vs Germany having 70% so we were bound to be overwhelmed faster).

@florianus

Unlike the Prime Minister I know when I am at a party even if the invitation doesn't say it is a party.

Here is the first dictionary definition of party that I found, it may be of help for you.

"a social gathering of invited guests, typically involving eating, drinking, and entertainment."

Florianus · 19/01/2022 17:39

@Zonder

You seem to have muddled two different events. There was no claim of DJs and dancing on 25/5/20.

Johnson said it was a work event. I have not seen any claim that many of those invited didn't work at Downing Street, but if true the event would undoubtedly have been illegal and the organiser should be prosecuted.

SueSaid · 19/01/2022 17:39

'Unlike the Prime Minister I know when I am at a party even if the invitation doesn't say it is a party.'

Me too and snacks with work colleagues at work is not my idea of a party.

Anway at least we finally agree, nowhere does it say 'party'.

The Met have said consistently that they have not investigated any historic breaches of lockdown regulations and are not about to start to. That is a very different thing from saying that there were no breaches.

@Florianus

R still above 1

In London R is currently between 0.7 and 1.1 according to UKHSA.

@Florianus i know you say your just pointing out facts etc etc but the R rate for England is 1.1 to 1.5 and for the whole of the UK is 0.9 to 1.2.

So its over 1, pointing out a specific area as being around 1 is distorting the facts.
