AIBU to assume Boris Johnson is lying?

Thirtytimesround · 18/01/2022 14:05

Cummings says that he warned Boris the drinks party was against the covid rules.

Boris says he didn’t. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-60039868

So, given the track record, AIBU to assume that BJ is either
(A) lying to Parliament, or
(B) so bad at his job that he has no idea what his private secretary is up to, or what the rules he created actually said, or what the difference is between working and having a drinks party.

I don't know why you are so worried @Clavinova, if Boris goes, the Conservatives will still be in power with a stonking great majority, I am sure there are plenty of other people itching to have a go at being PM and are sharpening their knives as we speak .

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 18/01/2022 21:27

At least one of BJ and DC is lying. I do think DC is going to slowly stamp on BJ's fingers every time BJ tries to find a grip on the cliff. It would be very entertaining if one of them wasn't supposed to be running the country.

Clavinova · 18/01/2022 21:33

DeliriaSkibbly
That is not true
They were NOT divorced and she had NOT obtained the decree nisi by this stage
Please go and spread your Tory lies somewhere else Clavinova. Like Johnson, nobody believes them.

Rather an extreme reaction from you, DeliriaSkibbly.

7 September 2018

Boris Johnson and his wife Marina Wheeler have announced that they are in the process of divorcing.

In a joint statement issued through a family friend, the pair said: "Several months ago, after 25 years of marriage, we decided it was in our best interests to separate.

Judge Gibbons gave [Marina] Wheeler the go-ahead to apply for decree absolute, a divorce decree which will end the marriage “out of time”. Rules say applications for a decree absolute must be made within 12 months of the granting on an initial divorce decree, a decree nisi.

I expect we'll see email confirmations provided by Cummings shortly. Cummings may be a liar, but he's not completely stupid. My money is on Cummings sharing his receipts in the next few days. Johnson will be gone by the weekend when that happens.

TheHateIsNotGood · 18/01/2022 21:37

Does DC have an actual job yet? With his brains he could do so much more than trying to bring down BJ.

And BJ is just going to continue being BJ until someone better comes along. Is he lying? Do I care? Not really? Party Politics is a malformed vehicle for democracy and I don't believe anyone's bullshit.

The irony of it all is, BJ thought he was going to have a2-4 years of international buffoonery 'politicking' and he got Covid for Global Politics instead.

I'm sure he can't wait to hand the ball off to someone else.

@Clavinova

Starmer's boring and lacks charisma

I listened to Keir Starmer being interviewed on LBC yesterday morning. He was asked how many people attended the beer and takeaway meeting in the Durham constituency office. He couldn't give a straight answer to the question - he flustered before saying that around six people usually travel with him in his team - but he didn't tell us how many people attended from the Durham office - a further six people?? Blatant obfuscation.

@Clavinovaav

But if you have this opinion about Starmer, why not about your boss Bojo?

As far as i can see, its 17 parties, 2 involving lying to the Queen no less VS Starmers craft bottled beer during a by-election?

Starmer didn't make the rules and neither did he appear night after night telling us ALL to obey them....

We missed seeing my partners 100yo Nan before she died, couldn't go to the funeral... all the time that lying scumbag was partying, beyond contempt, i'll never forgive him.

Kendodd · 18/01/2022 21:49

Still sticking up for Johnson I see @Clavinova

I remember you used to have quite a following on here. Your fellow Tory fans always seemed delighted when you showed up with your C&P. I think they've all gone. What you going to do when Johnson gets the boot? Are you going to stick with him (you're so devoted to him) or move on to the next Tory?

22itsallnew · 18/01/2022 21:51

@Clavinova even if to use Johnson's term, he didn't 'technically' cheat on his wife while she had cancer he did still cheat on her repeatedly (and on his previous wife I think). So I don't think you are clearing his name for being a dishonourable cheat.

What do you actually think about the way he conducted himself with all the parties & boozy gatherings in No 10 during periods of lockdown and restriction?

Clavinova · 18/01/2022 22:07

Alexandra2001
As far as i can see, its 17 parties

Boris Johnson didn't personally attend 17 parties.

Starmer didn't make the rules

He voted for the rules in parliament -

That's sad - I agree.

May 2020
A [Labour] MP has explained his decision to attend a 100th birthday celebration for a Second World War veteran during [the first] lockdown.

A video clip showing Labour’s Kevan Jones, who represents North Durham, attending the party has been circulating on social media.

Mr Jones said he was invited to an outdoor celebration, organised by the community, for Frederick Herron’s 100th in Quaking Houses, County Durham, on May 10 [2020]

People were meant to join in from their own property, but bad weather meant the party was brought inside at short notice...

Would any of the women on here still supporting Boris want him as a son in law if they had a daughter..I think Carrie used to be on here and I wonder what shes thinking now about this man and his character

DuncinToffee · 18/01/2022 22:12

Not Kevan Jones again

Clavinova · 18/01/2022 22:12

22itsallnew
even if to use Johnson's term, he didn't 'technically' cheat on his wife while she had cancer

What did you expect him to do - go back to his wife even though they had been separated for nearly a year?

MsJinks · 18/01/2022 22:15

Johnson chose Cummings to be his advisor- he worked with him, listened to him and took his advice for a long time - he backed him over Barnard Castle - then he chose marital harmony over retaining him on the payroll from what we are led to understand.

Johnson has been particularly pig headed and tunnel visioned in not recognising where this was all going - he should know Cummings’ methods of work well, know what his attention to detail will be like, I struggle to believe we have a man running the country so completely oblivious to others he was close to, and their potential actions and so completely oblivious to the potential public opinion.
It’s ridiculous we have to watch this government soap opera play out and it shows what lack of grasp Johnson has on anything.
Oh of course Johnson is lying, it’s such a bad lie this he didn’t know that I don’t quite believe he can have said it - I mean if he’s not lying then he’s stupid - But I really can’t believe he continually gambles on nothing more coming out - been better to be upfront once this started - well be better to follow your own rules but well past that stage of course.

22itsallnew · 18/01/2022 22:27

@clavinova he's a serial cheat. Can you even admit that?

Oh and you still haven't answered what you think about the bring your own booze parties being held at No 10 during lockdown?

eastegg · 18/01/2022 22:33

@JesusInTheCabbageVan

The leaks are strategic - the next one will be proof that he lied to Parliament.
Yes I was thinking along these lines today. How DC will be holding something bigger back so he’s got something to threaten BJ with until he’s sure that he’s been destroyed, which I don’t think will be long now.
FrecklesMalone · 18/01/2022 22:33

Rishi must have known as well and been too weak to do anything about it. Or joined in. Even the true blues I know are considering voting for a different party as this one is rotten to the core.

StoneofDestiny · 18/01/2022 22:47

Yes he is lying. He lies regularly and been sacked from previous jobs for lying.
(wtf has any of this to do with Blair?)

BashStreetKid · 18/01/2022 22:53

WTF has Kevan Jones got to do with anything? He didn't make the covid rules. And attending a 100 year old veteran's birthday celebration hardly equates to attending and/or condoning 17 parties (and rising).

JustSinginIntheRain · 18/01/2022 22:56

Right on schedule another announcement has been released in a desperate attempt to cover up today's shit storm.

Everyone can see right through it now.

BashStreetKid · 18/01/2022 22:57

Have you ever heard Johnson give a straight answer to difficult questions? Has he said how many people were at the garden party? He doesn't even divert difficult questions very well - I'm sick of his standard response which goes along the lines of "The public aren't interested in that ... waffle waffle ... vaccinations ...waffle ... Brexit ... waffle waffle waffle"
BashStreetKid · 18/01/2022 22:59

@Clavinova

kittensinthekitchen Those who believe Johnson isn't lying, do you believe he didn't know a social gathering of 100 people was against the rules?

Laura Kuenssberg reported that around 30 people attended - not 100.

Does that magically make it not a social gathering, then?
StarbucksSmarterSister · 18/01/2022 23:01

go back to his wife even though they had been separated for nearly a year?

And why were they separated?

Because Marina finally had enough of his serial cheating. Apparently she had already booted him out once before when he got Petronella Wyatt pregnant, but took him back.

BashStreetKid · 18/01/2022 23:03

I’m actually more concerned about this than about a bunch of people who already work together in Downing Street going into the garden for a glass of wine after work. The whole thing is disgusting

But we don't know that they worked together, @PinkTonic. 100 people were invited, it's highly unlikely that they all worked in the same department and the same room together.

littledrummergirl · 18/01/2022 23:20

Rishi must have known as well and been too weak to do anything about it. Or joined in. Even the true blues I know are considering voting for a different party as this one is rotten to the core.

Of course he knew, Allegra is godmother to his dc and cummings is his new best friend.
He was also in charge of the treasury when his mates were busy giving the money to their bar managers etc.

I wouldn't trust him anymore than his current boss who has been fired twice for lying.

Unsure33 · 18/01/2022 23:29

@MsAgnesDiPesto

The difference between them is that Cummings wasn’t elected to serve the people and bound to maintain standards in public office. So his wrongdoings are a different matter. He was an employee like any other (well, not quite, but you know what I mean). Johnson is accountable to Parliament and the public in a way that Cummings isn’t and wasn’t.

So lies from one have a greater import than lies from another.

And of course Johnson is lying. Cummings is bright enough and Machiavellian enough not to have said this without knowing others had witnessed it and could corroborate, which is exactly the case here.

If Cummings is so bright and had any morals at all why not report it at the time ?

The media are laying into Johnson and don’t get me wrong I understand why . But he was a good MP and I think power must have gone to his head . But who would want to be PM during a pandemic and split between scientists and economists and be paid less that a manager of a nhs trust .

Not me .
