AIBU to assume Boris Johnson is lying?

Cummings says that he warned Boris the drinks party was against the covid rules.

Boris says he didn’t. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-60039868

So, given the track record, AIBU to assume that BJ is either
(A) lying to Parliament, or
(B) so bad at his job that he has no idea what his private secretary is up to, or what the rules he created actually said, or what the difference is between working and having a drinks party.

@sadpapercourtesan

Much as it pains me to lend any credence to that poisonous little eft - Cummings' stock-in-trade is vengeful, premeditated destruction of people he no longer needs, so I am assuming he has the receipts to back up this onslaught on Johnson.

It's so, so depressing that this is our politics now. And likely to be so for a good long stretch, as long as the witless keep bleating "But Starmer is stodgy...Corbyn is a terrorist...no viable opposition, what else are we to do" and voting for the absolute worst this country has seen since Thatcher.

This 👆 The British public love to shoot themselves in the foot, so they will continue to support a bunch of lying bastards.
SuitcaseOfWhine · 18/01/2022 14:29

@Lottapianos

'I don’t think Cummings is the most honest of people either to be fair'

Absolutely. This is the sewer we find ourselves swimming in - having to choose which self-serving sack of shit to believe. Good times

This.

What a fucking horrible situation where an ex-aide (who was clearly breaking rules himself to go to a dodgy business meeting) has a blantant feud with a PM who is also a liar, hypocrite and only in politics for what he can gain for himself. There is no shame and embarrassment that the people they serve are angry and laughing at them, and that's really fucking worrying.

If children could run a country this is what it would look like.

Isaw3ships · 18/01/2022 14:29

Boris is always lying. About important things, unimportant things, big things, small things.
He’s a pathological liar who probably doesn’t even know he is lying, half the time.

Suzanne999 · 18/01/2022 14:31

If his lips are moving…….

countrygirl99 · 18/01/2022 14:31

Regardless of anything Cummings says I think both a and b are perfectly reasonable assumptions based on Johnson's history.

iklboo · 18/01/2022 14:33

Is he upright & breathing? He's lying. The more he opens his mouth the more he sounds like a teenager who's been asked why the vodka in the bottle in the cupboard now tastes like water.

User6397254 · 18/01/2022 14:34

Dunno, not sure I would trust someone who drove to Barnard Castle to get his eyes tested

PinkiOcelot · 18/01/2022 14:34

@noblegiraffe

Are his lips moving?

Then he’s lying.

Haha, just what I was going to say.

Well said.
TooBigForMyBoots · 18/01/2022 14:39

Every time he speaks I assume he's lying.

SickAndTiredAgain · 18/01/2022 14:41

Of course he’s lying.

Even without Cummings, he was obviously lying when he said “I thought it was a work meeting”

girlmom21 · 18/01/2022 14:41

His new argument is "nobody told me it's against the rules".

Even if he isn't lying (he is), he made the rules ffs

AlexaShutUp · 18/01/2022 14:42

Exactly @girlmom21!

TheWhalrus · 18/01/2022 14:43

As we post, the defense shifts further from 'i never knew this was a party' to 'nobody told me this was against the rules'

@girlmom21: apologies for duplicating your point, I think you beat me to it and I didn't notice before posting.

I already made the same point earlier on the thread. Wink

But it's a valid point so it bears repeating!Grin

girlmom21 · 18/01/2022 14:47

Ha sorry @AlexaShutUp I missed yours. At least we know all 3 of us are right @TheWhalrus Grin

Plumbear2 · 18/01/2022 14:49

Yes hes lying. My son who was 12 at the time understood the rules. I'm certain the man you made the rules understood them perfectly well

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 18/01/2022 14:49

Cummings will have photographs and probably recordings. He's waiting for certain things to be said, and then we'll have another reveal.

I rather imagine he has the goods on Carrie Johnson and some Cabinet members too.

It's shameful that this is now British politics.

MaryShelley1818 · 18/01/2022 14:49

Of course he's lying. 100%

Quite why journalists aren't just reporting his pathetic excuse and then saying "But they are his rules", I have no idea.

Good God.... just read this too Confused

Trying to defend a blatant lie by claiming you need basic instructions and your arse wiped like a small child??

mamakoukla · 18/01/2022 14:51

Agree with previous posters - why should an adult need to be informed of the law? As a responsible citizen he should be aware…. Especially when he had an active role in the creation of the rules, laws etc. The critical item here is whether he broke the law or not. The whole ‘Nobody told me…’ debate is a smokescreen for his obvious sense of entitlement. Muppet

Agreed. I bet Johnson is wishing he’d fired Cummings back in April 2020. All he did was allow him to collect another eight months’ worth of ammunition.
Tallyhodavey · 18/01/2022 14:53

This isn’t anything new. Tony Blair should have been indicted for war crimes IMHO. They are all liars.
