AIBU to assume Boris Johnson is lying?

Cummings says that he warned Boris the drinks party was against the covid rules.

Boris says he didn’t. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-60039868

So, given the track record, AIBU to assume that BJ is either
(A) lying to Parliament, or
(B) so bad at his job that he has no idea what his private secretary is up to, or what the rules he created actually said, or what the difference is between working and having a drinks party.

@noblegiraffe

Are his lips moving?

Then he’s lying.

This. He's a politician, whatever they say, the opposite is more likely to be true.
JustSinginIntheRain · 18/01/2022 18:20

His voters know he is lying too.

PinkTonic · 18/01/2022 18:23

@Ipadflowers

I don’t think Cummings is the most honest of people either to be fair. And he’s going after Boris and making it his life’s work to get him out of office as revenge for loosing his job, so In this I’m not so sure.
I’m actually more concerned about this than about a bunch of people who already work together in Downing Street going into the garden for a glass of wine after work. The whole thing is disgusting.
SparklyLeprechaun · 18/01/2022 18:25

I expect in the next day or two an email or text message will appear to prove that he was told. Someone is digging a hole for Boris and he's falling right in, he doesn't even need a push. Unfortunately, he still won't resign, he's too shameless.

Thedogscollar · 18/01/2022 18:25

He is the greatest equivicator on the planet.

Wrongkindofovercoat · 18/01/2022 18:28

He is running a smear campaign

Bit like Boris allegedly did just after Cummings left Downing street ?

Mooda · 18/01/2022 18:30

He's lying. He lies like other people breathe. He can't even be straight about how many children he has (presumably because he doesn't support/ parent all of them, which imo is the behaviour of the lowest of the low). Of course he's lying. He's never been fit to be PM and finally his bullshit us catching up with him (I hope!)

sweetheartyparty · 18/01/2022 18:42

One of them is lying and my money is on BJ. The sheer volume of parties held and rumours of people warning BJ, the email, his staff secretary involved. Of course he knew or he has the observation skills of a knat

Itsalmostanaccessory · 18/01/2022 18:53

@Wrongkindofovercoat

I dont disagree with Cummings doing it. I want Boris out and the info should be made public if Cummings or anyone else has it. I was simply replying to another poster who doesnt believe it because it is being dripped out. It is being dripped out by design. It works better than dumping all the information at once. A smear campaign works when you keep it going, build up anger, add more info at just the right time.

itsgettingweird · 18/01/2022 18:59

@noblegiraffe

Are his lips moving?

Then he’s lying.

First response nailed it Grin

Of course he's lying.

He's trying to claim he didn't know what the rules were. The rules - he - as PM - decide and push through parliament.

He's a dick of the highest order and knows he's on a sinking ship and trying to cling to a life raft for as long as he can.

DGRossetti · 18/01/2022 19:15

In 2019 he was found by the Supreme Court to have lied to the Queen when he asked her to dissolve parliament early to avoid Brexit debates that he didn't want to have.

The key here is if the Queen didn't care, why should we, I guess.

willstarttomorrow · 18/01/2022 19:18

Boris Johnson has created a very powerful enemy in Cummings, who has been biding his time since he walked out of downing street with his cardboard box. Mr Johnson is a lazy peacock who danced with the devil when it suited him. I have little sympathy, as much as I dislike Cummings.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 18/01/2022 19:31

I know Sue Gray's been mentioned, but isn't anyone going to say we absolutely have to wait for her report?

When even Boris's few fans are giving up, you know it's hopeless

the80sweregreat · 18/01/2022 19:36

Will Sue Gray have help to find out the truth ?
It Seems a lot of work for one person to wade through those lies

ElenaCouch · 18/01/2022 19:41

I am at least enjoying the spectacle of it all, hoping Johnson gets quoted enough lying before the next drip feed catches him out.

Couldn't make this shit up, the state of our world Confused

mjf981 · 18/01/2022 19:45

Cummings is a horrible odious little twerp of a man.
But I still think he is more honest than BJ.

Vikki69 · 18/01/2022 19:47

Would you trust Cummings? A desperate man

Puzzledandpissedoff · 18/01/2022 19:48

Will Sue Gray have help to find out the truth?

Well I guess she could always ask Boris, since he heads the government who are paying her Wink

Considering her boss had to pass on the enquiry because parties were held in his office, that the party itself was allegedly for civil servants and that Sue herself is a senior civil servant, I'm only waiting for it to be revealed she was there

Now that really would be amusing ...

SirChenjins · 18/01/2022 19:48

@the80sweregreat

Sue Gray will have very little influence over the outcome of her findings.
Puzzledandpissedoff · 18/01/2022 19:51

Sue Gray will have very little influence over the outcome of her findings

Or possibly of the findings themselves by the time the party have finished with her ...

pigsDOfly · 18/01/2022 19:58

Of course he's lying, it's what he does and what he's always done.

And still he has the barefaced gall to stand there and say no one told him these gatherings were against the rules.

With few exceptions, every other adult, and most children, in the country would have known such events went against the rules.

So now we have to ask ourselves is he lying when he said he didn't know they were against the rules, or is he actually too stupid to know, and understand, the rules he and the government put in place.

Whichever is the case, he's not fit to run the country.

the80sweregreat · 18/01/2022 20:03

If you tell millions of people to ' stay at home ' on tv then read out the rules on tv, you must know what those rules are !
I knew them and I'm not anyone important. Millions knew them , but Boris Johnson , the man who helped draw up the responses to the pandemic lockdown rules , didn't know one rule from another ?
Pull the other one. Couldn't make it up eh ?
Or maybe you could if your the PM!

willstarttomorrow · 18/01/2022 20:03

Sue Grey is, by all accounts, a very experienced and respected civil servant. I feel sorry for the woman, she has quietly getting on with her job for years and now she is incredibly famous (and faceless). She will deliver a report based on facts that can be evidenced, the action then taken is not down to her.

user1471453601 · 18/01/2022 20:03

Not only did Johnson lie, he's also fucking stupid.

Rule one, never fire the person who knows where all the bodies are buried.

Rule two, it's never the act itself that brings you down, it's the cover up.

Clavinova · 18/01/2022 20:14

And it’s not as if Max Hastings, his former boss, didn’t warn us

Max Hastings also warned us that Jeremy Corbyn was a "communist" and described Ed Davey as "witless" - so make sure you don't join JC's new political party or vote for the Liberal Democrats.
