AIBU to assume Boris Johnson is lying?

Cummings says that he warned Boris the drinks party was against the covid rules.

Boris says he didn’t. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-60039868

So, given the track record, AIBU to assume that BJ is either
(A) lying to Parliament, or
(B) so bad at his job that he has no idea what his private secretary is up to, or what the rules he created actually said, or what the difference is between working and having a drinks party.

Sue gray is basically going to be Terry Coverly. I’m just rewatching the thick of it because that’s what is really happening in No. 10!

willstarttomorrow · 18/01/2022 20:18

Just out of interest, any sighting of Mr Johnson anywhere? I know he had a positive close contact but my understanding, working in frontline Child Protection and having close friends working the wards in the NHS, is that we do not isolate now if jabbed, just carry on. Also loads of people I know have actual covid but back to work after 5 days- although most are expected to work remotely if the job role allows and they are well enough.

Those who believe Johnson isn't lying, do you believe he didn't know a social gathering of 100 people was against the rules?

Laura Kuenssberg reported that around 30 people attended - not 100.

the80sweregreat · 18/01/2022 20:21

Boris Johnson was seen at a hospital today and interviewed by Beth Rigby on sky news around lunchtime
He wore his mask and looked dog rough
Spoke ' word salad ' about not understanding his own rules and tried to appear contrite about it.

the80sweregreat · 18/01/2022 20:25

100 were initially invited
Many decided they did understand the new rules and decided not to go
The other 30 were as confused as the PM and decided to go along
These people run the country.

And it’s not as if Max Hastings, his former boss, didn’t warn us

Here it is, and he was spot on:

@21the80sweregreat good to know- the nation remains in safe hands Wink

22itsallnew · 18/01/2022 20:32

Clavinova still spinning for Johnson. Even a 5 year old is on the news explaining in plain terms how going to a party in lockdown makes you a "bad Prime Minister."

Good point @willstarttomorrow Johnson was keen enough to dodge isolation when it suited him (remember when everyone else had to isolate for 10 days for a contact yet Johnson was miraculously on a pilot test and release scheme until public outrage made him uturn ) but this week he could have gone to work while a family member had Covid but instead he hid in the fridge again hoping it would all go away

DGRossetti · 18/01/2022 20:36

@willstarttomorrow

Sue Grey is, by all accounts, a very experienced and respected civil servant. I feel sorry for the woman, she has quietly getting on with her job for years and now she is incredibly famous (and faceless). She will deliver a report based on facts that can be evidenced, the action then taken is not down to her.
I very much believe she will be given a report already written to sign off.

30 or 100. Still wasn't allowed. Same old, same old.
noblegiraffe · 18/01/2022 20:38

Boris's defence now utterly relies on us believing that he is a complete idiot who doesn't understand basic instructions.

I can see why he thinks it's worth a shot.

DeliriaSkibbly
Boris Johnson has cheated on his previous wives, including cheating when one of them, who bore (one of) his child, was having cancer treatment.

Marina Wheeler is the mother of four of his children and she was diagnosed with cancer the year after she separated from Boris Johnson - she had already obtained a decree nisi in divorce proceedings. She was diagnosed with cancer in May 2019 - given the 'all clear' in August 2019 (interview in the Guardian).

DuncinToffee · 18/01/2022 20:41

Sue Gray is not impartial
She’s apparently known for her independent streak, but she is a civil servant who ultimately answers to the Prime Minister. This is not an independent inquiry.

DuncinToffee · 18/01/2022 20:44

Sue Gray also cannot formally determine whether the Ministerial Code has been broken

Guess who can.

That is not true.

They were NOT divorced and she had NOT obtained the decree nisi by this stage.

Please go and spread your Tory lies somewhere else Clavinova. Like Johnson, nobody believes them.

Mumoblue · 18/01/2022 20:46

Of course he’s fucking lying, that’s all he does.

Very true but i wonder how witless you have to be to go out into your garden, find 30 people drinking/eating tables laid/during a Pandemic and think "what a lovely work event!"

The problem Bojo has is this ... he either deliberately broke the law OR he is stupid.... neither is a good look for a Prime Minister.

The problem you have Clav is the more you protest his innocence, the more you cement the case against him.... more power to your keyboard lol!

Yeah I mean you can't say it doesn't pass the sniff test.
the80sweregreat · 18/01/2022 20:59

Well, if he couldn't understand the rules , then all those that were fined should have their money returned to them as they didn't understand it either !

Clavinova · 18/01/2022 21:03

Starmer's boring and lacks charisma

I listened to Keir Starmer being interviewed on LBC yesterday morning. He was asked how many people attended the beer and takeaway meeting in the Durham constituency office. He couldn't give a straight answer to the question - he flustered before saying that around six people usually travel with him in his team - but he didn't tell us how many people attended from the Durham office - a further six people?? Blatant obfuscation.

the80sweregreat · 18/01/2022 21:05

Ok, so Sue Gray should also look into Keir starmer
I haven't a problem with this at all.

antwacky · 18/01/2022 21:07

It's so easy to tell when Johnson is lying, his lips move.

Wrongkindofovercoat · 18/01/2022 21:09

Rule one, never fire the person who knows where all the bodies are buried

Especially if they buried them for you.

liveforsummer · 18/01/2022 21:13

I get this off my 5 and 6 year olds a lot at work ... Claims of 'I didn't know' big difference is they dissent actually make the rules in the first place. WTF Boris 🙈🙈
