With DM boots?

I think they are so ugly & chunky. Every time I see them on I think to myself, why would anyone buy them?! They are really masculine looking.

[quote kittensinthekitchen]Hmm, DMs or plastic look leggings?

Well there we go. OP is clearly blind. Plastic leggings are one of the worst fashion crimes ever

NumberTheory · 16/01/2022 21:53

I’ve had a lot of DMs and they’ve been some of the most comfortable, warm and long lasting shoes I’ve had. I’m not keen on the platform ones, but the normal soles are great.

They are fairly heavy and a bit chunky and trainers are easier if you’re not used to DMs. But trainers don’t last as long, don’t protect your feet nearly as well, and look a bit too “can’t be bothered” compared to DMs. (Definitely have their place though, I love trainers too.)

Catswhisky · 16/01/2022 21:54

Jesus Christ those leggings are hideous. I said I don’t judge people who wear trainers but I do judge people who wear those!

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 16/01/2022 21:55

@ThrobbingToothacheOfTheMind

YANBU, DMs are hideous. It will be one of those trends people look back on and cringe.
They've managed to hold their own for years and years and years. I've owned a pair for over 20 years. And they're back in fashion now. Not that I care what's in fashion.
Rightshoardingsaurus · 16/01/2022 21:57

DMs are just currently in fashion, they have been fashionable for at least 4 decades. Their quality has vastly declined since about the late 90s.

Wow these blow the doc marten thing totally out of the water.

ButtockUp · 16/01/2022 21:57

So what do you wear OP?

Expect I shan't get an answer.

So shiny!

I feel like the only person who would want those is that crab from Moana.

VelvetChairGirl · 16/01/2022 21:58

I have a pair of plastic leggings they are fake leather look tho, is that ok?

ButtockUp · 16/01/2022 21:58

Maybe you're a tart's darts kinda gel?

But the Op is asking for opinions on that one as she actually doesn’t know if they are nice or not. Why drag it up?
If she had said “I hate leather look leggings” would that be more acceptable.

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 16/01/2022 22:00

If we all liked the same things the world would be a boring place 😊 Personally I only like trainers, I don’t like heels or boots. I don’t like the fila trainers that I’ve nicknamed dinostompers... but that’s my opinion, I’m also a whatever floats your boat type of person 😂

Katya213 · 16/01/2022 22:01

I agree, I’m not a fan of them.

ghostmouse · 16/01/2022 22:02

I’ve got 3 pairs of docs, 1 original pair, a pair of boots with roses embroidered on them and some Chelsea boots.

I bloody love them. No way am I wearing ugly impractical 6 inch heels, can just see me teetering around at work on them.

I’m not having foot damage thank you 😊

steff13 · 16/01/2022 22:02

@lightisnotwhite

I don’t think “different people like different things” is actually true.

Otherwise we wouldn’t have fashion trends would we. Remember literally everyone wore skinnies until recently. Whether they suited them or not. Now even if you love skinnies it won’t be long before they look really dated and age you.

DM’s are definitely being worn as a trend. We have gone from one young girl wearing them in the office ( very much her own style) to 9 out of 12 staff members in them. I counted.

Of course it's true. Otherwise everyone would be wearing them. But everyone isn't. And they've been the style here consistently since I was in high school - and that was not recently.
crazyjinglist · 16/01/2022 22:03

Like I said, it’s just my opinion. We are all entitled to an opinion.

Kind of silly to get cross with other people for not understanding that you have your opinion, when your whole thread seems to be about you not understanding other people's opinion Confused.

There is nothing to 'understand' about a difference in taste, so your whole question is pretty pointless.

pastypirate · 16/01/2022 22:03

Some people just don't get style.

crazyjinglist · 16/01/2022 22:03

Oh and YABU. DMs are ace. High heels are silly. Grin

TrainspottingWelsh · 16/01/2022 22:04

They might be back in fashion now but I'm not unique in having worn them most of my life. I was about 10 when I finally discovered footwear that wasn't jodhpur boots or wellies that was both comfortable and practical, long before I cared for appearance.

@OhPatti it was op that decided footwear had a gender, and docs were masculine. I'm just returning the compliment. I'm female because of my biology, not because I prefer to wear comfortable, practical footwear that I personally think looks a lot better than anything mainly marketed for females.

YABU for not comprehending that others might not share your taste in footwear. It';s really that simple.
Pythonesque · 16/01/2022 22:08

I still remember my bemused horror when my sister came home from (I think) a youth orchestra tour with a pair of purple docs, in her early to mid teens. They were worn a lot over a few years, but had eventually been left behind at our parents' house, one time we were there I showed my teenage daughter them and unsurprisingly she thought they looked great ...

onlymyselftoanswerto1 · 16/01/2022 22:11

I live in my dm pascals - very rarely wear any other type of shoes/boots now. Although I did get these ones for Xmas and I love them - docs and heels - what's not to love 🥰 can't wait to have somewhere to wear them!

VelvetChairGirl · 16/01/2022 22:12

Right thats it I am definitely being tracked, I just went on youtube and its recommending me a 2 year old video about how DMs are made.

CamomileTeabag · 16/01/2022 22:15

I like to be able to walk fast, sometimes for long distances on rough terrain, and to run if I need to. Give me a pair of DMs over a pair of crippling heels any day.

GADDay · 16/01/2022 22:18

DMs have been around since forever. I got my first pair in the 80s.

Got a gorgeous oxblood pair last year. Love them but they have been hard to break in.
