To not understand the obsession

With DM boots?

I think they are so ugly & chunky. Every time I see them on I think to myself, why would anyone buy them?! They are really masculine looking.

I don't think there is an obsession?

For as many people who like them I'm sure there is an equal amount who don't.

ShinyMe · 16/01/2022 20:11

@Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese

I love the look of Docs, but always feel like I look like my feet are HUGE when I try them on, even though whenever I see someone else in them I get a pang of "I should just do it" go and try a pair on, and don't buy them... maybe dh should get me a pair 🤣

I alternate between flats and heels, depends on what my day involves.

You could try the softer ones first, they seem less chunky somehow, perhaps as the leather is softer, they fit closer to the feet. That's what I got first, when I went back to them as a not-a-student-anymore (I was mid 40s when I started wearing them again.) These ones: www.drmartens.com/uk/en_gb/p/13512006

I love my dm's. Just fot my 1st pair at 49 and they are so comfy and versatile YABU

VelvetChairGirl · 16/01/2022 20:11

@XenoBitch

YABU, I love DMs. High heeled shoes look gross to me. Don't get me started on Uggs!
I will never understand Uggs they look absolutely ridiculous and scruffy as fuck.

dont like high heels either they ruin your feet and are impractical.

MissNothing1991 · 16/01/2022 20:12

Let me guess, you are one of these... Individuals, I suppose would be the nice term... Who insists on going grocery shopping in stilettos they can't even walk in properly holding on to the trolley for dear life to stay upright, while insisting people in sensible, stylish and flat shoes or boots are masculine looking. Would rather look masculine than stupid to be honest

MrsTerryPratchett · 16/01/2022 20:12

I wore them 30 years ago and looked fantastic. They're still awesome!

Theroughoperator · 16/01/2022 20:13

Why do you need to understand it? I don’t like the obsession with:
Dresses and white trainers
Teddy coats
Multiple ear piercings aka ear curation, ear party
Fillers
Microbladed eyebrows
Veja
Biker jackets (with above mentioned dresses and white trainers)
Mum jeans
Ditsy prints
Leather or faux leather leggings
Etc, etc, etc

However I do understand it. Different people have different tastes, styles and likes. Shocker! How dull life would be if we were all the same.

HappyToPayForAdultSocialCare · 16/01/2022 20:13

I wear both DMs and high heels. I look great in both!

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 16/01/2022 20:14

Masculine?!?! Are you from the 50's ? Jesus!

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 16/01/2022 20:15

I love the look but flat boots look awful on my little chunky legs, especially if they are calf height as they cut me off in the worst place.

I think they look amazing on long/slim legged people.

However I do hear that they aren't as comfortable as they used to be?

I'm delighted that ankle, chunky heeled 90s boots are back, they are my JAM

youcanthandlethetruth · 16/01/2022 20:15

I don’t go shopping in heels, so I guess that doesn’t make me stupid Hmm I wear trainers. No need for heels and no need for big clumpy boots

WhatIsThisPlease · 16/01/2022 20:16

YABU

I lived in them as a teenager and now my DD15 has bought herself some. She looks awesome!

noblegreenk · 16/01/2022 20:16

I agree to an extent. The masculine look doesn't bother me, but they're not flattering at all. I love ugg boots but that's a comfort thing. DM's take ages to break in, I can't be bothered with that for ugly footwear. If footwear is ugly then it needs to comfortable right from the first wear for me to bother.

thepeopleversuswork · 16/01/2022 20:16

Stylish
Incredibly tough and well made
Iconic
Very flattering

What's not to like?

Who cares if they're masculine? I don't think they are exclusively masculine anyway.

That's lovely, you do you. Why on earth are you bothered about what I wear on my feet?

Dresses and white trainers love Teddy coats love Multiple ear piercings aka ear curation, ear party love Fillers not so much Microbladed eyebrows love Veja don't know what this is Biker jackets (with above mentioned dresses and white trainers) love, literally wearing this now Mum jeans love Ditsy prints not sure what this is Leather or faux leather leggings love

Funny isn't it OP. Funny how we all have different styles...

Puffalicious · 16/01/2022 20:17

Yup, the 1950s called, they want you back.

You'd rather everyone wore 6 inch heels? Good luck with that wishful thinking. The clothes do not maketh the woman.

MoonlightFancy · 16/01/2022 20:17

My mother in law has a pair of DMs and honestly I think she looks fantastic. She pairs them with really beautiful, stylish outfits and they suit everything. Secretly very jealous of her style (not secretly, I tell her all the time!)

Dogscanteatonions · 16/01/2022 20:19

Well you know what they say opinions....

Skyeheather · 16/01/2022 20:20

@TheLightSideOfTheMoon

Because when you wear them you don’t slip on the ice.
^This, the only boots I can walk on a frosty pavement in. I also have wide feet and these are a lovely fit. I walk a lot and would wear out a"normal" shoe in three months but it takes a long time to wear the soles down on them.
CornedBeef451 · 16/01/2022 20:20

@pawpatrolneedaunion I'm 5'1" with size 7 feet and live in DMs!

I am fairly chunky myself though so it evens out. I can see they might be a bit much if you're both short and slim.

SocksAndTheCity · 16/01/2022 20:21

I can't see where obsession comes into it either, and I've worn DMs for 30+ years alongside plenty of other shoes and boots. They're practical, comfortable and well made so a lot of people like them, just like a decent pair of trainers.

I don't know anybody who's obsessed with individual clothing items, and if I did I would suspect they were unwell?

Roominmyhouse · 16/01/2022 20:21

I love clumpy boots! So comfy and practical and I think they look awesome.
