With DM boots?

I think they are so ugly & chunky. Every time I see them on I think to myself, why would anyone buy them?! They are really masculine looking.

I love mine! I wear heels for work mostly, high ones at that, but live in my DMs at the weekend (and have even work them to work on occassion). My 2 year old DD and I have matching patent black ones Grin she loves them too

ComeOnSpringtime · 16/01/2022 20:41

@youcanthandlethetruth I agree with you in some ways but I'm not surprised you've got mumsnetters riled up. Here, it seems everyone and their mum own at least a pair or two of DM.

I'm not a heel person either and I love boots. Just not DM.

Londontown12 · 16/01/2022 20:42

Each to their own I say ! Personally I love mine but there not big & clumpy at all so many styles so many different varieties!
My personal dislike is seeing peeps hobbling in heels 👠 looks ridiculous but that’s only my opinion if we all liked the same stuff we would all the the same !!

chaosmaker · 16/01/2022 20:42

DM's are really well made, really comfortable (once broken in) and hard wearing. What's not to love. That's the reason they are always popular and often in fashion too.

Heels on the other hand are for looks only. Everything else about them is pain and the knock on problems for later in life :D

ShinyMe · 16/01/2022 20:43

They've got these metallic ones at the moment @VelvetChairGirl - I'm not keen on the though.

multivac · 16/01/2022 20:44

I love the DM look, but like a pp, am short, with size 7 feet, so they just don't work on me. For Xmas, I got these, from Timberland, and they are perfect for me - DZ vibe, but much more flattering for a big footed shortarse 😎

Had mine for ten years and they are still going strong. Gorgeous pink colour so not too masculine (Disclaimer....yes men can wear pink too!) And my fave pair of boots l own.

cos they are comfy and practicable, and look good. Heels, no I loathe heels, haven't worn them for years and years, and never again will !

I saw those they aint got my size I like them tho but I would have to see them in person, maybe I'll go look in the shop after my birthday.
ShinyMe · 16/01/2022 20:46

These are my gold ones. I think mumsnet actually persuaded me to buy them a couple of years ago when I was dithering, and I love them.

I’ve got a pair of DM boots - they’re black with embroidered black flowers and I love them. Last had a pair over 25 years ago and glad I’ve got another pair.

16 year old DD also has a pair - I like it that we both have a pair Smile

Onlinedilema · 16/01/2022 20:47

All my kids and step kids wear them.
Who cares what anyone else thinks?
Do you comment on men's choice of footwear too, or is it just women who must sacrifice practicality and comfort?

Daisychainsandglitter · 16/01/2022 20:49

I love my DMs. Painful to break in though!

Oh that's weird, the link didn't copy and neither did the second half of my sentence! It was these. www.drmartens.com/uk/en_gb/p/26656040 I was saying something about not liking the texture I think.
EmoIsntDead · 16/01/2022 20:50

Don't wear them then?

nice I like sparkly do they feel glittery or are they smooth.
ShinyMe · 16/01/2022 20:50

I saw a purple chrome patent pair in my size in Debenhams a few years ago for half price and I dithered and dithered and ended up not buying them. I've always regretted it. They don't make them now.

Chicoryfairy · 16/01/2022 20:51

Love my DMs, have had mine for well over three years and wear them 9 months in the year. Still look great. Not the most feminine footwear perhaps, but it works for my style which is quite feminine otherwise - usually wear skirts or dresses.

JDaytona · 16/01/2022 20:51

I have those exact platform DMs. I wear them with dungarees. How masculine of me! 😱

ShinyMe · 16/01/2022 20:52

They feel glittery, but not overly rough, it's quite fine glitter and doesn't shed. I was worried the glitter might catch on things, like tights, but it doesn't, and it doesn't shed either. I would 100% buy another pair of glitter ones next time they make them again in another colour. I really want a pair of velvet ones too.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 16/01/2022 20:53

So much better then tottering around in heels. I have dm shoes and love them. I wear them to work with a dress. I’m quite feminine but I can be feminine in chunky shoes.

Alyssasbackrolls · 16/01/2022 20:54

They are comfy (eventually) and when I rode motorcycles years back I lived in them. But I agree OP they don't look great, take ages to break in and there are much nicer sturdy practical boot options out there.

And glittery or coloured ones just look like clown shoes to me. #hides Grin

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 16/01/2022 20:54

I love DMs. I have a plethora of Docs & Focs (fake docs) adorned with roses & another covered in glitter. I adore them.

I also have a passion for f*ck me heeled boots, stiletto, velvet pixie boots, anything with straps, buckles & chains. With my disability I usually use my crutches if I wear this type out!

And I’ve a collection of Woolsies slippers (alas a Brexit casualty apparently), slipper socks & am currently lounging in my Totes Harris tweed slippers.

Not forgetting the fake crocs I potter round the garden in.

And the Converse Chucks. Lots of Converse (I got married in my black Converse high tops)!

Different people like different shoes. And some people have lots of different shoes for different things.

This may cause OP to have a conniption, but I also sport flip flops. And trainers. And walking boots. And Caterpiller-esque steel toed boots for the rare occasion I do heavy duty work (or limp my hounds through the old quarry park).

If you don’t like them, don’t buy them. I love docs with a long floaty dress (that fashion has definitely gone full circle from when we were wearing it in the 90s). There’s no feminine & masculine for me, they’re just boots for a range of different occasions!

42isthemeaning · 16/01/2022 20:54

Always wanted some.
My feet are usually in size 8 to 8.5 but they don't seem to do half sizes. I have very wide flat feet
What size would people recommend?
Sorry op - you've made me think about buying some now! Grin

vbacschmebac · 16/01/2022 20:55

@slashlover

Proper DMs last forever and are very comfortable (once you've broken them in).
Yep, had mine for 12 years. Don't look over 12 months
