To not understand the obsession

With DM boots?

I think they are so ugly & chunky. Every time I see them on I think to myself, why would anyone buy them?! They are really masculine looking.

I never liked DM's when they were really in when I was at school/uni in the 80's/90's. Now they're not even cheap which I assumed they always were back in the day. Mind you I hate heels more - why would anyone torture themselves by walking around in them all day?? To impress men??

1smallhamsterfoot · 16/01/2022 20:31

@youcanthandlethetruth just let people like things you knobcheese

TheLeadbetterLife · 16/01/2022 20:31

Honestly OP, 6 inch heels actually look more masculine to me than DMs these days, because the only people who seem to wear them are drag queens. They’re ridiculous.

EcoCustard · 16/01/2022 20:31

Loved my DM’s for years. Live rurally and it’s muddy, cold and dirty they are comfy and keep my feet warm and dry. They also don’t look crap like other boots and trainers with a bit of mud on them. The kids ones are good too.

TedMullins · 16/01/2022 20:32

YABU. I love the look of them and have the chunky ones you posted. I don’t want to look stereotypically feminine and I don’t like heels. Shocker, people have different taste

amiafreakofnature · 16/01/2022 20:32

They seem a hell of a lot heavier than when I had a pair back in the day

duvetdayforeveryone · 16/01/2022 20:33

I love DM boots, but they are too heavy for my weak ankles :(

VelvetChairGirl · 16/01/2022 20:33

@youcanthandlethetruth

People can’t seriously wear these
I would love to wear those if they came in a better colour.

I dont like boring colours if they did them in gold/chrome I would be all over them like a fly on shit, I am a short arse anyway I do like to be taller and clomp about in big boots with my size 7 feet, skinny jeans and leather jackets, I will be 43 soon and I couldnt give two shits what anyone else thinks, I wear what I like.

LakieLady · 16/01/2022 20:33

I love DMs, but sadly they are totally the wrong shape for my feet.

I'd love to be able to wear them.

Hohofortherobbers · 16/01/2022 20:35

Love my DMs, been happily 'obsessed' with them for over 30 years and can't imagine more comfortable footwear thank you.

youcanthandlethetruth · 16/01/2022 20:36

Like I said, it’s just my opinion. We are all entitled to an opinion Confused

Apparently I’m being a “knob cheese” though, so off I trot (in my 6 inch heels Wink) goodnight Wine

I don't like DMs but they manage to be edgy and practical at the same time so can see why they are very popular. The also seem to transcend age which is impressive too.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 16/01/2022 20:36

The last time I wore a pair of 'feminine' shoes, I suppose I could have transitioned to this when I got home to meet with your continued entirely inconsequential approval

In the absence of my ever wearing heels ever again and narrowly missing needing surgery that would have put me in a wheelchair for 9 months afterwards if successful and possibly permanently if the surgery failed, would this be girly enough for you?

SprayedWithDettol · 16/01/2022 20:36

Why do you care??

ShinyMe · 16/01/2022 20:37

@VelvetChairGirl they do gold and chrome! Not all the time, but they're there if you keep an eye out! Hang on, let me go upstairs and take a photo of mine.

LovelyMoans · 16/01/2022 20:38

I don't care about masculine or otherwise (better masculine and practical/supportive than 4 inch stilettos).

But I find DMs generally too stiff, the soles especially.

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 16/01/2022 20:38

What’s the obsession with being upset about what other people wear? Do you think they owe you a pleasant (to you) aesthetic to look at when you’re walking around?

ComeOnSpringtime · 16/01/2022 20:38

@XenoBitch

So "masculine"
Hmm...it seems you're objecting to OP's use of masculine but you seem to be making the same statement as the OP, just coming from opposite directions.

OP: a style of boots =masculine.
You: pink or a certain colour and glitter = not masculine/feminine.

kiki22 · 16/01/2022 20:38

I love heels and DMs. DMs win because they are much more practical and go with almost anything.

SarahBellam · 16/01/2022 20:38

YABU. I have Docs Adrian tassel loafers and they are so smart but feel like I’m wearing slippers, and they go with absolutely everything - jeans, dresses, crop trousers, you name it. I can wear them all day and walk miles in them. They’re even smart enough to wear to work.

CatsArePeople · 16/01/2022 20:38

They're are a bit of a cult brand.
Where i come from originally, DMs were way out of affordability range. We had similar looking different brands. I still have my Steels.

Lou98 · 16/01/2022 20:39

I don't personally like Doc Martins and wouldn't wear them. However, I also realise there's a lot of things I like/would wear that other people wouldn't choose to.

Just because you don't like something doesn't mean nobody should buy them. I can't say I pay that much attention to other peoples footwear 🤷‍♀️

ComeOnSpringtime · 16/01/2022 20:39

Infact it seems some posters here are doing the same thing while objecting to the OP's use of masculine.
