To not understand the obsession

With DM boots?

I think they are so ugly & chunky. Every time I see them on I think to myself, why would anyone buy them?! They are really masculine looking.
@HPLikecraft I’ve tried them on due to the hype and the fact you can get vegan ones and was really disappointed. They are bad for your feet and very inflexible compared to barefoot shoes, which I exclusively wear now. They are not the natural shape of the foot (rounded toe box, non-zero heel drop, toes curl upwards) and the thick sole which only bends in one place gets in the way of natural movement and sensory feedback from the sole of your foot.
They aren’t “bad for your feet”

Quite the opposite.

Thin soled shoes are very uncomfortable for me so I couldn’t wear barefoot shoes.

DMs are perfect for many people - my orthopaedic team agree.

FirewomanSam · 17/01/2022 12:06

I don’t want to blow anyone’s mind but I like DMs AND I like heels!

I own several pairs of DMs and also own various pairs of stilettos.

Sometimes I wear one type of shoe and other times… I wear others!

I hope nobody fainted from shock at hearing such a preposterous idea.

I really like to solovairs but I am frightened to order them in case the size is wrong, does anyone know if their store in east london sells all the colours of the darby boot or just the more boring ones? I dont want to spend like £8 to get their and find they dont have the indigo or luna ones.

I'm also really intrigued by Solovair and am only being put off by the lack of trying on. How do sizes compare to Docs, does anyone know?

Heels that torture, slip-ons that slip off, bling, fast fashion and super-flat sandals with skinny little straps slow me down. They make me feel vulnerable. Same with tiny handbags and accessories.

"Masculine" shoes make me want to run and jump and fight tigers. I can take on the world in a good pair of boots and large pockets in my jacket, or a backpack.

So is "feminine" appeal based on vulnerability and discomfort? If so, I want to be a man.

On today’s episode of person unable to understand why people have different taste in clothing…….

PattyPan · 17/01/2022 13:11

@HPLikecraft I find the classic style ugly, I tried the Chelsea boots. I’ve had to go without Chelsea boots as I couldn’t get any which met my requirements - I’ve got some barefoot boots now. Standard shoes just do not give enough room for your big toe, which should not only not curve towards your other toes, it should have a gap from them.

Momicrone · 17/01/2022 13:23

I've rarely worn high heels in my life, my feet are in really good nick, give me a stomping boot any day

Arnia · 17/01/2022 13:28

YANBU they're vile. I always associate them with the oddball goths at school and can't break that association no matter how "trendy" they've become.

Ugly and uncomfortable looking.

There is nothing wrong with oddball goths.

Heels are so unfashionable now
Very 2000s

When I was at school, all the alternative girls wore them. The cool gang never did. They still have that association for me. Fwiw, I was neither alternative or cool.

Alright Heather Chandler.

Love dms and don't do heels.
But I see women around who look great in chunky boots and women who look great in heels.
Dms are practical and comfy once worn in.
I like footwear I can run in if I need to.

gamerchick · 17/01/2022 14:22

Claws are out on this one aren't they Grin

passionfruitpizza · 17/01/2022 14:25

Love the look but I'm never going to buy or wear shoes that need breaking in.

Oddball goth is my main style, so thats a good thing. I cant balance in heels, and even chunky ones make my feet hurt so bad. I dont know how the hell people get used to it, but I dont think theyre even pretty enough to bother. People wearing heels who cant walk in them properly look terrible and that would be me. Im quite happy in boots and flats.
housemaus · 17/01/2022 14:37

This thread reads like a lot of people feeling threatened that their Supergas aren't cool Wink.

Stompy boots are in style. If you don't like them, don't wear them. But 'vile', 'masculine' (as an insult, interesting reaction!), 'gross', 'ugliest most horrible things ever', 'oddball goths'... yikes.

Bollocks2Covid · 17/01/2022 14:42

Superga’s are like something an elderly woman would wear down the bowling club IMO. But each to their own.

Hemingwayzcatz · 17/01/2022 14:43

Is there an obsession? I don’t see many wearing them personally. My DH always wears them including to work and I think he looks great!

UthredofBattenberg · 17/01/2022 14:53

You can pry them off my cold dead feet before I'll wear heels.

QueBarbaridad · 17/01/2022 14:59

If you can wear something so masculine and still look feminine then you must be beautiful?

tinkywinkyshandbag · 17/01/2022 15:22

My DD is tall, blonde, and very feminine and looks fab in her DMs. In the eye of the beholder and all that.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 17/01/2022 16:01

@MandalaYogaTapestry

People making fun of heels should at least get their facts right. 6-inch heels are physically impossible to wear unless accompanied by the platform. The highest are 5 inches, the most common ones are 2.5-4 inches. But I guess 6 is a nice round number to gloat about self-righteously.
