If you don't pick up your dogs shit in the street:

A.) What is your excuse/excuses

B.) Do you worry about stepping in dog shit in your neighborhood, or you don't care if it happened.

C.) Does the thought of someone getting your dogs shit on their shoes/pram/wheelchair/ a small child falling in it make you feel GUILTY/INDIFFERENT/HAPPY.

you are anonymous, AIBU to want you to actually admit it and explain yourself

Ooh I'm interested in these answers...

romdowa · 14/01/2022 13:59

Only time I've failed to pick it up is when it was too runny to scoop up. I did come back after wards with water to Try and wash it away.

IdontPracticeSanteria · 14/01/2022 14:00

I don't think anyone is going to admit to this OP.

But a lot of people must do it, as the pavements are covered in it around my way. I find it so infuriating.

Malteser71 · 14/01/2022 14:02

I think it’s unlikely they are on MN

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 14/01/2022 14:02

No one is going to admit to this. People who let their dogs shit and don't pick it up deserve to be banished to a far off place where only others like them live.

DebbieHarrysCheekbones · 14/01/2022 14:02

You’ll never get an explanation from the kind of people who don’t pick up their dog’s shit

If you can’t pick it up you shouldn’t be out with one as it’s a disgraceful public health hazard. Get someone else to walk it for you.

That or put a nappy on it

Lou98 · 14/01/2022 14:02

This drives me nuts, the amount of times I've accidentally rolled the wheels of the pram through. A few days ago I was at MIL's and a woman let her dog do a poo in her front garden then just walked away and left it!
I do have two dogs - always pick up their shit, it really isn't that difficult.

I doubt anyone is going to actually admit it though, anonymous or not, they know they'll get a lot of negative comments.

People that do it just don't care, that's simply why, they can't be bothered

RedCandyApple · 14/01/2022 14:02

Would love to know as well! There is so much around here and it’s not just runny ones either 🤢 I once saw a woman with her dog, dog pooed, she stood there fiddling in her bag pretending to look for a bag to put it in I’m guessing. She kept checking around to make sure no one was looking (didn’t spot me) then walked off.

DebbieHarrysCheekbones · 14/01/2022 14:03

And if you WON’T / can to pick it up then you’re antisocial scum bags

Dammitthisisshit · 14/01/2022 14:04

You’ll find everyone coming on here saying they always pick it up. The amount of poo in our road (turns into bridleway, popular with dog walkers) would suggest a large amount of people don’t. Or maybe it’s just a few offenders who leave poo every day.

I think often people don’t notice. I’ve pointed out to several people that their dog has poo’d as it’s off lead and they’re not looking. Oversight maybe but IMO they should be watching their off lead dog.

NotJustACigar · 14/01/2022 14:05

I hate this and always pick up my own dog's poo. The only exception would be if she's off lead and goes in a place that's completely inaccessible to be like the back of a thick patch of brambles. But that's why if I think she's going to poo I don't let her off until she's done it.

Suzanne999 · 14/01/2022 14:07

I’ve even cleaned up after other dogs with lazy, indifferent owners.. Have never not picked up after my own dog.

My ex's father had a dog, it crapped all over the garden no one cleaned it up, he stepped on it in bare feet and wasnt bothered, he just wiped it off with a tissue and didnt wash.

I honestly think they are not bothered by it in the slightest and are so used to the smell of shit they cant smell it and dont care if its on their shoes etc so dont understand why anyone else does.

they are also under the mistaken view that its fine because its just natural and feeds the plants etc

BettyfromBristol · 14/01/2022 14:07

I don't understand why all dogs are not DNA tested and licenced for a modest fee. Then any poo could be linked to the owner. If fines were high enough, maybe £500, the scheme would surely pay for itself?

Speaking as someone who has recently had to clean poo off my trainers 😠

TedMullins · 14/01/2022 14:07

I doubt anyone will admit to doing it regularly. The only time I’ve not picked it up is when I’ve forgotten poo bags which has only been twice I can think of and was a genuine mistake. I went back out with a poo bag to retrieve it later. Other times when I’ve not had a bag I’ve used a tissue and even a disposable mask! I don’t understand why anyone wouldn’t.

RedCandyApple · 14/01/2022 14:07

There was a thread on here where people admitted to bagging up their dogs poo then leaving it under bushes or hanging it on trees to collect on their way back because they didn’t want to carry it around with them (as if we believe they did collect it 😏)

Knockon · 14/01/2022 14:07

My dog does typically 3/4 poos on a walk, shes an onlead dog so I always see it. Her solidly/slightly squishy poos are always picked up. Sometimes her 3rd or 4th are essentially mucous, so a valiant attempt will be made but unless its direct onto a leaf, the chances of a perfect clear up are so minimal that it has to be left. On the very odd occasion i have forgotten a bag or run out i will have to leave it too, and i feel terrible but it does happen

ComtesseDeSpair · 14/01/2022 14:08

I think the answer is the same as people who throw their trash on the street or flytip their old white goods or leave a mess on and under their table in a restaurant for the staff to clean up: they consider the cost to them, in terms of effort, is something they consider more important than the comfort and wellbeing of others around them.

dowhattyougotttado · 14/01/2022 14:09

Nobody will ever have a good enough reason for this.

Dog owners should carry bags, and water to flush mess away if it's likely to be messy. They should clean up the mess and dispose of it properly.

If they don't, they are lazy, stupid bastards who don't deserve pets. There really is no other reason.

CounsellorTroi · 14/01/2022 14:09

Only time I didn’t was when she did it on a pile of autumn leaves, in the dark. It was too well camouflaged for me to be able to see it.

LittleWilly · 14/01/2022 14:12

The only time I don't pick up is if we are on the moors or similar and my dog goes off and goes somewhere way off the path which tbf is what they do anyway. I also flick it into undergrowth if it's not quite hidden
I would not leave shit on a path or pavement though

Artichokeleaves · 14/01/2022 14:15

Dog owner and wholly agree OP, would like to know too. Most local dog walkers I meet regularly in the local area will pick up after their dog and also pick up anything else they see while walking as they feel strongly about it too. It got worse during lockdown, I never used to see abandoned poo much at all. And lately there's what I'm pretty sure is human poo in the park too. Fun times.

Incidentally the dog I most often pick up after as well as my own is the elderly lab belonging to an elderly lady I think has early dementia. We often chat, although she more tells you whatever she's currently thinking about than being able to have a conversation, and the dog is usually following behind her off lead at quite a distance. The owner doesn't notice when the dog goes.

Mumofsend · 14/01/2022 14:16

I don't walk my dog on the local pavements. We go to the heath. I always pick up but I would take my kids on a walk there with us because there's so much dog poo trying to stop 3 of us walking in it is an ordeal.

ColdNovemberRain · 14/01/2022 14:18

I always picked up my dog's shit (don't currently have a dog) but I remember being with a friend who was railing against the amount of dog fouling on the pavements, was sickened by his kids stepping in it but almost within the same breath went on to say that he is unable to pick up after his own dogs (he has two) because he has a bad back and is therefore the exception to the rule.

I suggested that his kids were perhaps stepping in shit belonging to other owners with bad backs too and he got really offended and angry.

So I'm guessing that's the answer. Those people have absolutely convinced themselves that they are exempt and are therefore different to all the other dirty, irresponsible arseholes.

I did have a very satisfying moment a few months ago when sitting on a bench admiring the view at a local beauty spot when a dog came and crapped right in front of me , almost at my feet. The owner shrugged and said she had no poo bags so was sorry but couldn't do anything about it, to which I gave a bright smile as I helpfully produced a bag of my own to help her out.

PaganOfTheGoodTimes · 14/01/2022 14:18

No one will admit to this OP and more will say it’s one or two bad owners letting the rest of them down. But I saw a survey once which said that 60% of dog owners said they wouldn’t clear up if they thought they’d get away with it so 🤷🏼‍♀️

I feel your pain, we have at least one dog in our village at the moment with a squitty tummy so every path it seems has a trail of splodges that have been picked up badly, and a child’s foot size smear left every 30 cm, perfect for my child not to notice and tread in every. Single. Day.
