If you don't pick up your dogs shit in the street:

A.) What is your excuse/excuses

B.) Do you worry about stepping in dog shit in your neighborhood, or you don't care if it happened.

C.) Does the thought of someone getting your dogs shit on their shoes/pram/wheelchair/ a small child falling in it make you feel GUILTY/INDIFFERENT/HAPPY.

you are anonymous, AIBU to want you to actually admit it and explain yourself

See I've always wondered why don't horse riders pick up there horse shit! Massive chunks off it just left in the middle of the road on a regular basis. It's absolutely rank 😫
Horse poo is fine AND you can collect it and leave it to compost down and it’s fantastic for your garden. Can’t say the same for dog poo.
I despise this attitude. If you're taking an animal out in public you should clean up after it. It's size/species regardless.

The amount of times we're driving through the country and there's just mounds of horse shit that we have to drive through is infuriating. People also walk/cycle down these lanes and it's unfair for other road users.’

Yeah, and while we’re at it farmers need to start picking up after their cows and sheep. We walk across those fields, and some are in public land. Disgraceful.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 14/01/2022 15:33

When you go out, surely people have a checklist of things- phone, mask, keys, purse maybe.

If you’re a dog owner, poo bags should be on your checklist. I’m fed up of having to watch where I walk on paths. Especially as there are sufficient dog bins around. Then again, people leave the bags beside them, not in them.

sadpapercourtesan · 14/01/2022 15:33

@Soubriquet that's clearly an attempt to make the best of a bad job (pun intended) because of the slovenly cunts who leave the bags lying around and hanging from trees.

Anyone with half a brain could tell you that "stick and flick" is NOT better than properly removing it from the site and disposing of it appropriately (in a paper bag if you'd concerned about environmental impact).

Dentistlakes · 14/01/2022 15:38

I don’t have a dog, but I think some dog owners genuinely don’t give a damn. They are intrinsically selfish individuals who are lazy and can’t be bothered. They don’t care about impact their behaviour has on others and will carry on as they wish regardless.

SammyScrounge · 14/01/2022 15:38

@AllThingsServeTheBeam

No one is going to admit to this. People who let their dogs shit and don't pick it up deserve to be banished to a far off place where only others like them live.
They are filthy people. Their dogs should be taken away from them because they are too irresponsible to own an animal.
Momicrone · 14/01/2022 15:41

Also professional dog walkers, how do they pick up after so many dogs?

SoupDragon · 14/01/2022 15:42

I imagine it's the same reason that people drop litter and food - they don't give a shit. FaIrly obvious really.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 14/01/2022 15:42

Makes a change from the usual dogs are filthy scum posts, now it's people who are filthy. Woof!

It's a total myth that horse shit is without health implications, campylobacter, salmonella, e. Coli etc are all present in horse shit.

I have only left one shit by my dog, we were walking along and the little bastard reversed himself into a spiky little bush and deposited a shit about half way up it, deep inside the bush. I tried but I couldn't get the bag into the bush without it getting caught on spikes. It was right outside a police station, and my dog is registered in such a way that his shit is traceable so was a nervous few days Grin

liveforsummer · 14/01/2022 15:45

@Soubriquet

Regarding the stick and flick, there’s a woods not far from me.

There are signs everywhere telling you up stick and flick dog poo off the path.

They would rather that, than bags being left everywhere

Yes indeed they would, however that's because the 2 options for many selfish people are the only choices. Actually bagging and taking away with you seems beyond some

Farm land is in no way the same as a public highway. Horses should be kept to bridal paths, they have no business on roads.

Horse shit getting stuck into the tread of tyres is so so dangerous, especially for motorcyclists. It can make the wheel lose its grip and causes accidents, increases skidding etc. Riders can even fall off their bikes. People have died from it.

But it's a great fertiliser so never mind.

Trethew · 14/01/2022 15:46

I am more annoyed by people who put their children in supermarket trolleys where I place my food. They may or may not have traces of dog shit on their shoes, but whatever dirt there is on their can transfer to my food and food cupboards. Grossly Inconsiderate

VividImaginationAgain · 14/01/2022 15:48

We have a lot of dogs around here, 8 in our small cul-de-sac alone. I can’t remember the last time I saw dog shit on the road or pavement. Some people do seem to leave it in the large field and small grassed area that I use to walk my dog but it’s rare, most people pick it up. Where is all this shit?

OneTimeThrowAway · 14/01/2022 15:49

Also horse shit is frequently super toxic... to dogs

BeautifulBirds · 14/01/2022 15:51

I wish I knew!

I have cctv footage of a woman at the very end of my drive, watching her dog poo, gating a bag out of her pocket, stoop down and pretend to pick it up!!

Wtf?! Why not just pick it up, put it in my wheelie bin if you must!!

This is a weekly thing BTW!

stuntbubbles · 14/01/2022 15:52

Where is all this shit?
Lewisham

Momicrone · 14/01/2022 15:53

And where I live

itwasntaparty · 14/01/2022 15:54

I always pick up, I don't want my kids walking my dogs shit into the house, never mind anyone else's.

It definitely gets worse here in the winter when it's darker longer, I think people think they won't get caught.

You could bag it and bin it-you don't have to hang the bag on a tree. This is why dog owners get a bad name. It's their dog, so the shit is their responsibility to remove.
Waynemanor · 14/01/2022 15:55

The only time I can think people may be in a rush. By that I mean if perhaps you have a reactive dog and you see some other off lead dog/dogs close by looking like they are going to make a beeline for you and you feel like you need to get out the area asap. I have always managed to pick up myself in this situation . My dog isn’t reactive but is a bit nervous. And if can be difficult holding her lead, reassuring her and also trying to keep an eye for what the other dogs are doing all at the same time as picking up a poo. It’s easier if someone else is with me to hold the lead for me

Blossomtoes · 14/01/2022 15:56

I always pick it up. I pick up excrement from dogs that don’t belong to me too. There’s no excuse not to.

phoenixrosehere · 14/01/2022 15:56

From what I’ve seen in our area it’s people who are on their phone letting their dog move all over while they hold onto the leash, do a poo and keep walking not even caring that there is a bright red bin for the poo just behind them.

itwasntaparty · 14/01/2022 15:57

@Blossomtoes

I draw the line at that, why should I pick someone else's dogs shit?!
Dillidalli · 14/01/2022 16:00

If my dog poos anywhere that someone will step on it, and there’s no stick around to flick it into the brambles, I will pick it up. If she poos on top of a mountain, bum in a bush, I will leave it there. I do have degradable poo bags but I’m still aware of how long they take to break down.

Toomuch2do · 14/01/2022 16:00

I always pick up up but I do tend to leave the bag by the gate and collect it on the way back. Very rural area so little chance of anyone seeing it and being offended in the 40 minutes it takes me to get back to it.
