If you don't pick up your dogs shit in the street:

A.) What is your excuse/excuses

B.) Do you worry about stepping in dog shit in your neighborhood, or you don't care if it happened.

C.) Does the thought of someone getting your dogs shit on their shoes/pram/wheelchair/ a small child falling in it make you feel GUILTY/INDIFFERENT/HAPPY.

you are anonymous, AIBU to want you to actually admit it and explain yourself

@liveforsummer

A dog can be under control without being on lead. They just need good recall.

They aren't under control if the owner cannot see or is not looking at them

They’re under control if you can get them to your side at any given moment. Equally they’re not under control if they ignore you regardless of whether you can see them.

I have a good view of a prime dog walking route from my front window. I’ve seen people leave dog shit so many times. Always it’s when the dog is off lead and the owner is ambling along way behind or marching on ahead.

@BeMoreGoldfish

I think some owners deliberately pretend not to see their dog’s shitting so they don’t have to pick it up, unless someone notices and then they feign ignorance Hmm.

A huge number of dog owners round my way don’t clean up (or worse put it in a bag and leave it) and now we’ve been overrun by fucking pandemic puppies the problem has escalated exponentially! Angry

Yes! I see this at my local beach...an older couple and their friend and about 6 dogs between them. As soon as one dog does the poo position they all turn and start pointing at the view so they don't actually observe the pooing. I've seen someone pick them up on it and they got quite angry so I guess that's how they get away it with. Knobs.

@echt

I always pick up my dog's poo. Thinking of poo bags, where I am you can be fined for not carrying a supply when out with the dog. I've not heard of anyone actually having had this happen. You can also be fined for not having you dog on a lead outside an off-leash area. To be fair, dog shit on the street is very rare indeed.
You are lucky. I live in a nice village with huge community spirit, so the mind boggles as to why there's a huge turd at every lamp post

@CatsArePeople

No dogs atm, but in the past...

A.) What is your excuse/excuses
sometimes i ran out of bags. sometimes dog did it where it was impossible to find or get.

B.) Do you worry about stepping in dog shit in your neighborhood, or you don't care if it happened.
don't care really. there are worse things. like human vomit and general litttering/fly tipping is a bigger problem in my neigbourhood.

C.) Does the thought of someone getting your dogs shit on their shoes/pram/wheelchair/ a small child falling in it make you feel GUILTY/INDIFFERENT/HAPPY.
Happens to all of us.

Thank you for being honest.

You don't care if your shoe gets encrusted with shit on the way to work/ a date/ a meeting/ a funeral... Etc

It happens to all of us.. Because of people like you. It doesn't have to.

@VelmaandShaggy

I do think for dog walkers who are a older.and achier, they just don't want to / can't actually bend over to pick it up
Still disgusting and idle... the reason i am buggered if I have run out of poobags (and you know, twice in nearly 20 years is good going I think) is that I use a poo bag holding grabber device as I can't lean too far out of my chair or I'll fall out and splat in the poo!

You can get long handled and shorter handled grabbers, the poobag is slid over the jaws.. grab poo, invert bag over it.. job done! Serious bending just not necessary!

I bought one for a neighbour years ago when she proudly told me she was exempt from picking up her terriers shit as she is old and can't bend... she wasn't best pleased but she did use it!

@ImpossibleDetails

We used to live on a new build estate mostly populated by young families - saw very, very little dog shit on the street.

Have now moved to area mostly populated by old people bungalows and retirement community - shit absolutely everywhere, all the time.

It makes me so livid, quite apart from worrying I'll step in it myself, I worry my ddog will step in it! I honestly think non-pickers should be subject to on-the-spot fines.

Agree with this. My parents moved from a family area to a more elderly populated area and now you can't walk 5 minutes from their house without having to dodge poo. I've been there with the pram and have had to move onto the road because there was so much poo there was no way around it. You could put it down to: Bad eyesight Not able to bend down so easily Less alert/aware/caring of the consequences But then their gardens are beautifully cared for and you seem them down in the muck doing their flower beds. You also have to wonder how they even go on walks with so much shit around. They are clearly competent enough to avoid standing in the stuff.
Calmamongthechaos · 15/01/2022 07:26

I’ve found myself at the end of a roll of poo bags before by accident and no one around to ask for spare. Felt mortified and on next walk went back to pick it up. If I can’t find it/see it will pick up another one to balance things out.

ElaineMarieBenes · 15/01/2022 08:03

@BettyfromBristol - this is the best solution surely and couldn’t agree more!
