If you don't pick up your dogs shit in the street:

A.) What is your excuse/excuses

B.) Do you worry about stepping in dog shit in your neighborhood, or you don't care if it happened.

C.) Does the thought of someone getting your dogs shit on their shoes/pram/wheelchair/ a small child falling in it make you feel GUILTY/INDIFFERENT/HAPPY.

you are anonymous, AIBU to want you to actually admit it and explain yourself

I don’t think people would admit to not picking up.

My eldest daughter refuses to pick our dog poo up, “it’s disgusting and makes her gag”. She doesn’t ever walk the dog though

I was in the park with my dog last weekend and saw a couple of off lead dogs poo and their owners didn’t pick it up - they were yakking to each other and not paying attention to their dogs. Someone pointed it out to them and they happily picked it up in the end, but wouldn’t have done otherwise as I just don’t think they’d noticed

The only time I’ve ever not picked up was when I couldn’t find it. It was very long grass, covered in fallen leaves at dusk. I searched for ages, spied what I thought was hers and picked it up only for it to be stone cold so it must have been someone else’s. Continued to search for it but just couldn’t find it anywhere. Walked back through the area the following morning when it was properly light and still couldn’t find it.

vivainsomnia · 14/01/2022 14:19

I think quite a few are old owners who were fine when they had their pups but now can't bend down.

As for the above poster who assume those who leave the door poo bag to be picked up but never do. I did it three times so far, when there were no bin anywhere close. Hid the bag so.it couldn't be seen and most certainly picked it up each time to take to the bin in the parking lot. I would never ever leave it but thanks for the cynicism!

Puppalicious · 14/01/2022 14:20

I’ve done this once in a park, I had no poo bags so ran over to another owner to ask for one, asking my son to stay standing by the poo but he didn’t hear me. We marched about peering at the ground for about 5 minutes but couldn’t find it in the brown autumn leaves. That’s the only time, another time I ran out of poo bags I used a face mask.
It is awful. I would think it’s a combo of not having a poo bag, or not keeping a close Enough eye on an off lead dog, or some people just not giving a shit.

ByeByeNye · 14/01/2022 14:21

One time I forgot to bring poops bags with me. I planned on driving back afterwards and picking it up, but I can't remember if I did to be honest with you.

That's the only time my dog has ever pooped on the street and I haven't picked it up right away.

magicstar1 · 14/01/2022 14:22

I've had our dog a year and a half and not picked up twice. Once was when she had diarrhoea and it was basically water...it soaked into the grass while we were still there.
The other time I realised I'd forgotten a bag. I did go back for it on our evening walk and pick it up.

BrimFullOfAsher · 14/01/2022 14:24

A.) It's somewhere inaccessible like in brambles, nettles etc (granted this isn't in the streets really) or as mentioned previously it's too runny (though I'll try to scoop or use leaves)

B.) Yes I do

C.) No

Puppalicious · 14/01/2022 14:25

Oh just noticed the OP asked how we felt about it - I felt awful, getting dog shit on your shoe is disgusting.

gsaoej · 14/01/2022 14:25

Nobody will admit to it but you can be sure that this type of person doesn’t care about a child stepping or falling in it or pram/wheelchair wheels getting shitty. There is only one thing they care about and that is themselves.

Reason for doing it - nobody wants to pick up shit and these people think they can get away with not doing it so they don’t

Re B) I believe these bastards vary their dog walking routes or let dogs out unsupervised.

I have to clear up other people’s dog shit all the time near my house. Otherwise it will be stepped and spread. There is a public bin about 30 metres from my house!

Tillsforthrills · 14/01/2022 14:25

It’s very obvious that it’s due to laziness.

A person would have to be an absolute psychopath to feel happy at someone stepping in it or other scenarios youve described.

TheHairyDinosaur · 14/01/2022 14:26

The only time I've not managed to pick it up was it was so runny it was basically brown water. I did manage to drag him whilst shitting in to the road/gutter to try and mitigate the damage. 😳

I tried but failed with a poo bag to try and push the watery brown shit in to the gutter but I'll be honest only about 30% at best made it because it was stuck/ingrained in the little stones of the tarmac.

AsYouWishButtercup · 14/01/2022 14:26

I once forgot my bags but was 2 minutes from home and asked a couple of people i passed if they had spare (they didn’t) and that I’d be back to pick the poo up. When I came back it was gone Shock

Sorenka7 · 14/01/2022 14:26

A lot of people round me leave it if it’s just off the path or flick it into bushes. Which I think is just as antisocial- they’ve forgotten that kids don’t stick 100% to paths and mine are always falling in poo

hoorayandupsherises · 14/01/2022 14:27

They've just put a bin at the end of our road with bags above (although I did see they were out when I went past at lunchtime) and I do think there's a bit less dog poo than before, so I can only assume round here people didn't want to carry it or put it in their household bins.

I have twice not picked up immediately after 10 years of dog ownership because I'd run out of bags, so had to go home and come back to pick up later- four-poo pooch, I am looking at you [hmmm] and about four or five times on an off-lead walk in the forest I've realised that I've only seen Ddog do one poo and been a bit suspicious that I've missed one because of not paying enough attention - again, we don't call her four-poo for nothing.

She was peed in front of someone's house once (she's a ninja squatter, but I really do try to hustle past houses that open directly onto the pavement), and the houseowner came out and shouted at me to pick up after her, so I am really anxious about being "caught short" as I hate confrontation.

I had to name-change for this thread, I have the fear Blush

AsYouWishButtercup · 14/01/2022 14:27

Take a small water bottle out and give it a squirt!
sillysmiles · 14/01/2022 14:28

I don't live in a town, and I don't walk my dog on the streets.
But I think some of the dogs pooping on the street are not "being walked" but being let out in the morning onto the street to go to the loo. (As I've observed when staying with folks in town)

There must also be people who just walk away from it too - but I wonder if that's something that needs more societal pressure. I think most people would be very reluctant to say anything to someone who they saw walking away from letting their dog poop on the street.

ashorterday · 14/01/2022 14:28

There's one twat who walks down the road who picks up their dog poo and bags it, but leaves it in the middle of the path and fails to pick it up later. I don't know if they are hoping someone else will deposit it in the bin 100 yards up the road or what but what tends to happen is someone goes over it on a bike making even more of a difficult mess to clear up.

I doubt anyone will come on this thread and admit to being one of those selfish idiots tbh.

SalmonEile · 14/01/2022 14:28

There’s a special place in hell for dog owners who refuse to stop walking when their dog is shitting and proceed to leave a long trail of poop behind them. I can’t imagine it’s pleasant for the dog either

shouldistop · 14/01/2022 14:30

The only people I've seen not pick up their dogs shit has been men or teenage boys.

dottiedodah · 14/01/2022 14:31

Lead , poo bags, keys .My motto when leaving the house. I am the proud owner of a lovely spotty girl! Always always clean up after her .I have also picked up poo from the beach from other dogs as well. Always shout people out if they dont clear up .Esp on the beach !

crossstitchingnana · 14/01/2022 14:31

The only times I haven't is when walking in the woods and I couldn't find it. I have even gone back with a poo bag if I have run out on a walk.

stillwaitingonaring · 14/01/2022 14:33

See I've always wondered why don't horse riders pick up there horse shit! Massive chunks off it just left in the middle of the road on a regular basis. It's absolutely rank 😫

greenteafiend · 14/01/2022 14:33

I wonder if a lot of abandoned dogshits are actually left by dogs who are just let out the door to "take themselves for a walk."

TheHairyDinosaur · 14/01/2022 14:34

Yeah I do now. Never again do I want to be on my hands and knees scraping dog diarrhea in to the gutter, the poo bag ripped it was stuck under my nails, I swear I could smell dog shit on my hands for ages afterwards despite washing them, scraping them scream with a nail brush and soaking them in hot soapy water 😭

Twilight7777 · 14/01/2022 14:34

Always picked up after my dog, the only time I haven’t is when it was too runny to pick up and it was raining so I figured the rain would wash it away anyway

teatime9999 · 14/01/2022 14:34

I think it's disgusting enough that dogs shit on the pavements, even when their owners DO pick it up. But I don't love dogs...
