I mean putting to one side she’s the Queen a woman who lost her husband after a 73 year marriage and unable to have her family by her side…a woman herself in her 90s whislt the civil servants whose advice she followed party!!!!

On top of that the other people of this nation who were protecting their loved ones - losing loved ones. Not holding celebrations. I do not believe anyone can defend this PM or his advisor/administration. We can and MUST do better.

@KonTikki

I don't actually blame Johnson in any of this. He has always been an amoral, lying sociopath and anyone who trusted him or thought he may change as PM has been naive at best. But I do blame the Conservative party for electing him as their leader, then by default landing him on the rest of us. Any half decent member of the Party was purged at the start of his premiership, and the Cabal have been left to run the Government whilst making increasingly ludicrous excuses for his behaviour. It's nothing but embarrassing.
To be fair, the Tories chose him not because they loved him or considered him a great leader. I doubt that many of them even considered him half competent.

They chose him purely because they knew he was a vote winner. He plays well to the crowd.

Yes, they put a lying egotist in the driving seat. Yes, Labour weren't offering a very credible alternative. But the people who put their crosses in the Tory box at the general election must take their share of the responsibility in this. We all knew exactly what he was like and yet they voted him in anyway.

The electorate got the government that it deserves.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 14/01/2022 13:37

I’ve always voted for Labour and voted remain so none of this mess is on me, my conscience is clear.

I couldn't bring myself to vote Labour at the next election, there was a long thread on the subject relatively recently but they just don't seem fit to govern. Too tied up with ideological wrangling and in-fighting, if nothing else. I had high hopes of Starmer but those have faded now.

There's no way Starmer would allow this stuff on his watch.

Maybe not, but lockdown under Labour would have made the Australian government look lackadaisical.

So I'm not sure who I could vote for, unless the Lib Dems manage to form a credible opposition.

Elphame · 14/01/2022 13:40

@AlexaShutUp

I'm sorry to say it but we will only do better if people start making better choices at the ballot box.
For that to happen we need better choices on the ballot box as well as a "none of the above" option.

I didn't want any of the current party leaders as PM.

TheWernethWife · 14/01/2022 13:42

Hemingwayzcatz

Totally agree with you, I'm a Labour and Remainer voter too.

Gargellen · 14/01/2022 13:42

Can he be impeached?

Nanny0gg · 14/01/2022 13:42
@Youarefakenews, I don't disagree. There were no acceptable options in my constituency at the last election, so I had to make a choice between not voting at all and going for the least worst option.

I do not personally believe that Boris was the least worst option. The country voted in a man who was known to be a morally bankrupt liar. We should not therefore be surprised to discover that he has been lying and acting without any moral compass. He is behaving exactly as expected. The electorate is partly culpable.
No. I voted for my MP who I like and who has done a good job.

Boris was sadly a by-product

mummymummymummummum · 14/01/2022 13:43

Ignoring Covid for a moment... they seem to have an awful lot of parties and gatherings. Especially assuming this is less than 'normal'. Who pays for the booze, snacks and food? I really hope it's not the tax payer.

Obviously outrageous that it's been going on whilst most of the rest of us were making huge sacrifices. The photo of the Queen sat alone at her husband's funeral breaks my heart every time I see it, for her and for everyone else that had to do the same 💔

Youarefakenews · 14/01/2022 13:43

MovingHome22 Just read on one of the news outlets that Keir was having piss ups with his mates at his house at the same time. Grin

Labour lost it's working class support due to Tony Warmongering Blair. The next sort of memorable Labour leader was Comrade Corbyn. But on the bright side, at least our current Prime Minister only visited Peppa Pig World, He didn't actually go ahead and it.

User1isnotavailable · 14/01/2022 13:44

We should vote them out.
We won't because:

 1. People make excuses for them.
 2. Some people assume the opposition will be worse than existing pile of lying XXXX but have no idea if this is true or not but trot this out on a regular basis.
 3. When the government get away with lying, cheating, fraud, corruption and we do nothing they do more of the same.

Rinse and repeat.

rambleonplease · 14/01/2022 13:45

All those who say "they're all as bad as each other" are wrong. There's no way Starmer would allow this stuff on his watch. If he did find out a lockdown party had gone on behind his back he'd be furious and boot them out. Starmer is a person of integrity. Boris is corrupt and a liar and he has fed this culture in his team, and chooses to surround himself with other despicable people.

@MovingHome22 yes Starmer does have integrity and many admirable qualities, but sadly he is not a leader so very unlikely he will be in the PMs shoes to be truly tested. His inability to challenge the government and hold them to account with any conviction is deeply disappointing.

@Youarefakenews

Confirmed?

Wreath21 · 14/01/2022 13:52

I used to think that Starmer had integrity, but I am genuinely worried that he will campaign for election on a platform of puritanism and punishment and seek to win the votes of 'middle England', which will lead to mass purges of anyone seen to crack a smile in the workplace, and snoopers round every corner...(all the while doing fuck all about poverty and inequality).

Fishlegs · 14/01/2022 13:53

@sweetgingercat

Our system is broken and needs a lot of repair. We need competent trustworthy people to act in our best interests. We need...
 1. Some sort of coalition government to sort this out.
 2. PR - FPTP is the problem that got us here.
 3. An elected upper house
4 Restrictions on political donations (esp from overseas)
 1. More local democracy
 2. Restrictions on press ownership and delinking between political parties and press.
 3. No more Facebook/Cambridge Analytica type campaigning
 4. Possibly an elected head of state (rather than a royal family)

Thats to start with...

Completely agree
TheGreatATuin · 14/01/2022 13:55

Does anyone else work in an office with such frequent booze-fuelled parties within the office going on to the early hours?
It makes me wonder just how much actual work gets done, especially since no one involved even seems to have questioned it, even mid-lockdown. Instead of working, it seems they spend their time socialising, drinking and presumably nursing massive hangovers. No wonder we're in such a mess.

TheSixthSickSheik · 14/01/2022 13:56

We get the politicians we deserve.

Cakecakecheese · 14/01/2022 13:56

@DanielRicciardosSmile

At this point I'm wondering if they actually ever do any work, as there seem to have been staff parties held on a daily basis.
Yeah, what exactly were they celebrating?!
RenGreen · 14/01/2022 13:57

The frightening thing is the Tories chose him because of his popularity post being London Mayor!!! They knew they would get the populist vote

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/01/2022 14:01

I wonder if this'll be the thread where anyone wants to consider WHY they chose to risk all these get-togethers, given the terror they were encouraging in everyone else
Could it possibly be that they know something we don't, and is there even worse waiting to come out?

These are questions that have been asked again and again without any answer ...

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/01/2022 14:02

what exactly were they celebrating?!

I think it's been reported that these particular events were leaving do's?

Booklover3 · 14/01/2022 14:08

Are you suggesting that those attending the parties are aware that Covid is a hoax of some sort?
ThunderCrow · 14/01/2022 14:14

It honestly makes a number of government decisions and actions from the last couple of years make much more sense (to me)...

...they have clearly all been blind stinking drunk the whole time.

Wheresthebeach · 14/01/2022 14:14

The Tories want Boris around to take the flak for all the revelations yet to come. They will dump him before the next election.

That would explain a lot
Lavendersquare · 14/01/2022 14:21

Absolutely agree the continued revelation after revelation about parties has just about finished me off. The culture of an organisation comes from its leader and in this case it is a leader who turns a blind eye to rule breaking to the extent that he attended at least one illegal party. It's rotten from the top to the bottom.
