To feel that these lines are too severe for my age

I am sorry in advance if this offends anyone, I hope not

I'm 30, 31 in a couple of months and I'm pretty unhappy with the lines around my eyes and dark circles.

I've never smoked, don't drink at all, use retinol, moisturise every day, wear sunscreen SPF 50 etc yet I feel that they're quite bad lines for somebody of my age.

I've booked an appointment for Botox this weekend

Do eat too much sugar and wonder if this could be affecting it.

Any honest feedback is appreciated

You look like you’re smiling in the pic, they’re just regular smiling lines. You’re 31, not 21 so some lines are inevitable.

Kdubs1981 · 14/01/2022 16:23

This is nuts! You look like a normal 30 year old woman. Living life and showing emotion leaves everyone with lines like this on their face. It shows you're alive!!!

It certainly doesn't make you look older than you are (if that's what you're worried about). You are probably comparing yourself with an unrealistic (likely photoshopped or botoxed) ideal on social media? This stuff is not what real people look like:

Kdubs1981 · 14/01/2022 16:25

@Millionairesshortbreadshort

With kindness. Get off social media. It’s toxic. Take less selfies. Enjoy life. That’s my advice.
A thousand times this!!!

Or stick to house interiors, cute animals and pictures of Jensen Ackles 😉

Zilla1 · 14/01/2022 16:25

If you're fixating this and your solution is booking botox then I think you might need to reconsider what normal attractive young people have, look at photographs that are not photoshopped and ignore indirect marketing for cosmetic procedures through paid influencers and social media.

Blackmagicqueen · 14/01/2022 16:28

Op that picture is a super close up and I think anyone would have lines if taken so closely! You look fine! You're also doing better than me with facecare as I'm in my mid 30s and only moisturise, very rarely do a mask etc

Blackmagicqueen · 14/01/2022 16:33

Also op I would reconsider botox as once you get it it can be hard to go back. I have a relative who for it and looks older when it wears off than they did before got it and has to keep getting it topped up!

Blackmagicqueen · 14/01/2022 16:33

LittleGwyneth · 14/01/2022 16:35

I think that's fairly normal, I think we've just lost our grasp on what skin looks like in our thirties if we don't have any interventions.

LittleGwyneth · 14/01/2022 16:36

Also Botox under your eyes isn't a great idea - if anything I would look at Profilo or if you're desperate for a quick fix, filler. But Botox is going to look incredibly harsh there, if they'll even do it under your eyes. My person wouldn't.

parrotonthesofa · 14/01/2022 16:38

Your eye looks lovely.

I am older than you but my solution to worrying about how my face looks is just to look in the mirror less. Works great!

mamabear715 · 14/01/2022 16:41

I recommend getting older. Eyesight deteriorates, and, as an old bat, I can't see lines or any kind of blemishes on my face. I look HOT! ;-)

Kdubs1981 · 14/01/2022 16:45

@Worried456776

Wow people are soooo judgey about Botox ! If it makes someone feel better about there insecurities then who are you to judge really ?!
Because the very "need" for Botox come from judgement. Judgement of (mainly) women's look and what they "should" look like. It's a societal pressure, holding women to increasingly unrealistic and unobtainable standards and judging them when they do not meet them.

So people have a right to an opinion on Botox.

Kdubs1981 · 14/01/2022 16:46
@Worried456776 half the time it’s the bloody Botox culture that puts the insecurities there in the first place.
Try CBT instead. If you feel like this now you’ll be having a facelift before you’re 40.

PlantsAndSpaniels · 14/01/2022 16:54

They look normal to me. You're focusing on them as you're smiling and have zoomed in. What do they look like in a normal mirror, in normal light? Also are they there when you aren't smiling?
I would give the skincare longer to see results before trying botox. If you don't already, try an eye cream or serum and see how you feel in a few months time.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 14/01/2022 17:11

They're just laugh lines! I'd rather have them than be a miserable bitch with perfect skin.

KT1992 · 14/01/2022 17:13

Mine are much worse and I’m 29. But I do usually get Botox outside of pregnancy and highly recommend makes you feel so much more refreshed

yellowsmileyface · 14/01/2022 17:22

Because the very "need" for Botox come from judgement.

Exactly! It's about more than the individual and their personal choices, and framing it as such is ignoring the wider sociological implications of cosmetic procedures.

If someone wants to get botox that it absolutely their choice and up to them, but they should also understand that the choice to do so has the repercussion of enforcing unfair beauty standards.

Fraternaltwin · 14/01/2022 17:24

Beautiful brown eyes. The lines look fine.

Whydoesthecatalwaysdothat · 14/01/2022 17:28

Looks fine to me and probably what I looked like at your age. My boyfriend at the time told me I needed some decent moisturiser and bought me some Clarins (because that is what his ex wife used!) then complained about the cost. He didn't last long after that!

I'm in my 50s now and don't have many more lines. In fact, I often get told I look younger than I am.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 14/01/2022 17:40

I'm mid thirties with lines under and around my eyes when I smile. I had a couple of consultations with dermatologists as I was thinking Botox also, but they said what some PP have said, in that Botox will worsen appearance of lines around eyes. As the side bits will be very smooth, the under eyes will look worse as a result.

They advised me to get CO2 laser instead - it's ablative so you need recovery time (a week off work as the skin will look very red and burned). But then it thickens the skin and promotes lots more collagen. It was lockdown and then I got pregnant, but I'll be booking this once the baby is here. It's about £800 but you don't need to have it redone like Botox. May be worth paying for a couple of opinions from experts to see what they suggest for your skin and eyes

MichaelAndEagle · 14/01/2022 17:47

The lines increase your attractiveness in my opinion! You look lovely.

melodypondisasuperhero · 14/01/2022 17:50

Sorry my selfie skills are bad but I’m 32 and I’ve just attached a photo of my eye when I’m smiling and when I’m not smiling. There’s a huge difference!

Your eyes are lovely and everyone has lines when they smile.

Or just don't be so vain and enjoy life and spend £800 on helping others/a lovely weekend away/ an experience/ therapy

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 14/01/2022 18:47

I'm a year older and possibly have more than yours. Plus I have deep forehead creases. It doesn't bother me though. I'm not 21 anymore!
