I am 38 and I want one of those shopping trolleys that are basically a bag on a frame on wheels. I don't drive (don't start, tried both manual and automatic and can't get to grips with it also can't afford it) and I also don't like taking public transport so I tend to walk everywhere. But I also have hypermobility and during pandemic heights buggered myelbow carrying heavy shopping.
All in having a trolley would be very useful but I can't get passed being embarrassed about using one. Does anyone here have one that isnt of pension age?

Yabu you are still young and should put up with carrying everything it's extra exercise.

Yanbu go and get one they are fantastic. Age be damned.

I lived in the outskirts of Paris for a few years and everybody had them! Big choice of designs and colours and essential for the twice weekly markets...

NellieWellietheEllie · 14/01/2022 09:12

I think what this thread shows is that a lot of women are becoming a lot more confident in their own skin and a lot less scared about not conforming. So many of us now are able to do what we want because it's practical and healthy and we want to, which is great. Fuck the patriarchy.

NellieWellietheEllie · 14/01/2022 09:13

Although I'm sad for the small minority of posters for whom that isn't true.

Rubyupbeat · 14/01/2022 09:21

It's taken me til mid 50s to get one and boy, why didnt I do it before?
I do drive, but visit many London markets so parking nearby isn't always an option. I then took a look around and saw many much younger folk using them.
It makes life so much easier and no aching joints for days after, literally no effort at all!
A lot of my friends have them now in the most amazing designs.
Go on, get one, you really won't be sorry!

Yes, that’s exactly my experience of suburban Paris — and also that men also of all ages used them as a matter of course when market shopping.

Also, as @JellyfishandShells says — where I live now is a hilly, eccentric city area where many houses don’t have drives because of the terrain, so everyone walks and cycles, so you also see them a lot. Including a pair of beautifully-dressed minimalist architects. Grin

RidingMyBike · 14/01/2022 09:47

I asked for one for my 40th birthday! DD had stopped using the pushchair the year before and I really missed having the big pushchair basket to put shopping in! It makes life so much easier - especially for heavy stuff like a trip to the library.

I've also found it's brilliant for hybrid working now I can't leave anything at work and have to hoick in my laptop, milk, travel mug, folders each time I go to the office. So much easier to wheel it all along!

MajorNeville · 14/01/2022 09:47

They are quite de rigueur on the continent, get one.
I use one when we go on holiday, I fill it and off we go to the pool or beach, we have everything we need without being loaded up ourselves and without constant shouts of where are my goggles, where is the suntan lotion etc etc, I've only ever had positive comments "oo what a good idea"

BaronessBomburst · 14/01/2022 10:42

Yes, we use ours for picnics and days out too. Blankets, balls, bottles of water, and the coolbag. You just chuck everything in and off you go.

I keep mine 'loaded' in the garage. Nice days, I make up a picnic, grab the trolley and we're out!

@PinchOfVom

You lot are daft

I had one living in Spain years ago and plenty young Folk had one

Glitzy colours etc

Yes I remember being surprised by everyone having a trolley, even young men. No one bats an eyelid
Mary54 · 14/01/2022 17:30

Go for it! I have had one for about 20 years now. Got it when I was about your age. Depending on weather conditions I use it or a bicycle trailer for supermarket shopping. We only live about a kilometer from our nearest supermarket so I feel guilty about driving. My dh has also used it a couple of times when collecting heavy items (china, Christmas goose) from the center of town where there is no parking/ vehicular access. Mine is a Sholley.

ALongHardWinter · 14/01/2022 17:33

Wouldn't be without mine! Practically every other person I see when I'm out shopping nowadays has one, young, old, men and women.

TheRemotePart · 14/01/2022 17:36

I’ve had a trolley since early thirties.
I’ve never gave it a second thought!?
MIL bought me a funky one to drag my shopping back
I now have two. Both funky patterns.

Mrsthingamy · 14/01/2022 17:38

My daughter wanted one of these to get her shopping while at uni. She was influenced by a girl on her course who always uses one and is described as 'very Brighton' so definitely not just for grannies.

my mum is 80, and now has a shopping trolley as she can't carry.

Her's is so cool, bright purple and somehow when I first saw it, I didn't recognise what it was.

Go for it.

NoWordForFluffy · 14/01/2022 17:45

I've had one since my early 30s and love it (I'm 45 now)! I often walk the 2.5 miles into town and back with it.

Mine is an IKEA one.

Snow1n · 14/01/2022 17:49

Go for it, also to supplement if you need more space, use a backpack at the same time

MoChan · 14/01/2022 17:52

Get one! I've been using them since my late twenties. I bought a couple in France in the 00s because they had nicer ones than in UK, but I think you can get better ones here now. I didn't learn to drive until my early forties, and I loved having them for getting shopping back from markets and supermarkets. And they were brilliant to take into town when I was carrying a baby on my front.

MandyLHarkness · 14/01/2022 17:52

Don’t be embarrassed! When we moved recently I bought one as we were literally a 3 minute walk from a supermarket. Unfortunately I only got to use it a couple of times as my DS (21) “stole” it when he went back to uni to transport his washing to & from the launderette!🤣

circular · 14/01/2022 17:55

Definitely don’t be embarrassed if it saves your arms back.
I’m 60 and got one last year after an injury left me unable to drive for 2 months. The type that’s a bag on wheels, can pull behind or push in front like a buggy with swivel front wheels. Takes 3 to 4 bag full Waterproof too. Still using it for local trips as like to walk to the shops. See quite a few younger people using less funky ones.

Think it’s this one - but not that colour as dont want to out myself

They are such a good idea, I’m coveting an ‘Andersen’ German make … £££ but has an attachment which will hook to the back of a bike rack…

I'm 32 and if I couldn't drive, I would 100% get one. Couldn't care less what anyone thought- you'll be glad of it when you get home without aching arms. You can also get quite plain ones, don't need to be 'granny' patterns
Winifred2o · 14/01/2022 17:59

I bought one, my cheeky SIL asked if it came with a little plastic hood!
