If there was an election tomorrow, who would you vote for?

Obviously the Tories are a complete shitshow, but Labour aren’t a lot better and I couldn’t hand on heart vote for either in good conscience right now.

So… IF a snap election was called, like in December 2019, who would you vote for? Would it make a difference to you if Boris was replaced as Tory leader? Would you even bother voting or maybe go for a totally different national or local party?

Just curious!

Labour. Always have always will.

hopperrock · 14/01/2022 06:50

It nowhere near outweighs it all, but it's a handy soundbite for people to spout; they haven't got the courage to say 'the tories will protect my financial situation and I don't care enough about the state of the wider society to want them out'.

I think you're right, @Mookie81

hopperrock · 14/01/2022 07:01
@hopperrock. I don't understand what Brown ignoring the obvious financial crisis coming our way has to do with Johnsons handling of covid. Or are you defending Brown by saying someone else is worse? 🤔 Not much of a dense but probably the best one you've got.
I'm not defending Brown, people can take whatever they like from his record as Chancellor.

Using his failure to predict the banking crisis as a reason to vote Conservative makes no sense though. If lack of foresight is the issue, don't vote for the party that cut NHS spending and ignored its own pandemic planning exercise. Or for that matter the PM who lied about how prepared we were, refused to take even basic precautions, talked about what a great opportunity this could be if we didn't overreact like other countries, and locked down too late costing thousands of lives.

CMZ2018 · 14/01/2022 07:23

Conservative

WorriedMumsDontSleep · 14/01/2022 07:57

Ohhh yes gotta protect my lower than minimum wage lifestyle.

The majority of people think the conservativea are the best of a very, very bad bunch. And as long as labour continue to ignore why people won't vote for them, instead engaging in identity politics, the longer they'll be in opposition.

Taking the current government down should be like shooting fish in a barrel and the fact that Labour continue to piss off 51% of the population suggests they don't really want to be in power.

Self Id is clearly a massive vote loser, the only people they keep are those thick enough to think inclusion of men at the expense of women is progression.

Unlike Liz Truss I suppose, that beacon of intelligence and progressive thinking. Such a champion of women's rights that as soon as she got her hands on the overseas aid budget, she reduced spending on gender and equality by 60%. Well done, let's all vote Tory.

Blossomtoes · 14/01/2022 09:04

No they don’t. They didn’t in 2019 when they got less than half the vote and they most definitely don’t now. When the bluest of blue Sutton Coldfield Tory association unanimously votes no confidence in the prime minister the game’s up. If we had a GE now the Red Wall vote would collapse.

Pendolino · 14/01/2022 09:08

Politically homeless too. I’d be voting for whoever stands the best chance of getting the tories out and campaigning hard for womens rights at the same time. Wish there was a leftish coalition to vote for.

Beveren · 14/01/2022 09:21

Labour, certainly.

Pendolino · 14/01/2022 09:23

A vote for labour would be totally throwing my vote away. I would also add that it’s important to campaign for electoral reform as a dead dog in a Tory rosette would probably still get elected where I live.

Beveren · 14/01/2022 09:23

Self ID is never going to be a major election issue, no matter what the perception on MN is, and therefore it will make relatively little difference to the outcome. The primary issues will be the economy and health.

Whatafustercluck · 14/01/2022 09:29

Labour. Self ID is an important issue, but there are lots and lots of other important issues and it's more important to me that we kick this bunch of absolute tossers - who have done nothing for anyone except the rich - out of No. 10. In my constituency it's Labour or Tory marginal, so it has to be Labour.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 14/01/2022 09:29

If there is a party that promises an end to people in number 10 pissing my money up the wall in seemingly never-ending fucking parties held at my expense while there isn't enough money for basic services?

If there was, they would get my vote.

Tink626 · 14/01/2022 09:32

I really don't know. I really struggled in the last election as well. It's a thoroughly depressing state of affairs.

lioncitygirl · 14/01/2022 09:34

Conservatives.

MajorNeville · 14/01/2022 09:35

I'm in an historically labour stronghold but which went Conservative once in the eighties and then again this last election. Our MP is great he's done a huge amount for the town, works hard and is conscientious, I'd vote for him even though I didn't last time. Voting with a local interest as I have no faith in any party nationally.

Your vote might actually count, you lucky thing!
Blossomtoes · 14/01/2022 09:36

@lioncitygirl

Conservatives.
For the love of God, why?
BubblesThaDragoon · 14/01/2022 10:16

Labour - not a fan of starmer at all so it would be a tactical vote. Would never ever vote Tory - I hate their policies and everything they stand for and the way they’ve handled the pandemic has cemented that even more.

Same here. No brainer.

@Blossomtoes

Why does anyone have to justify their vote to you?

Sabire9 · 14/01/2022 15:16

"The majority of people think the conservatives are the best of a very, very bad bunch"

You must mix with a bunch of Daily Mail/Sun/Telegraph/Times readers, because everyone I know thinks the Conservatives are f*cking horrific and will happily vote Labour (or Lib Dem if that's what it'll take to unseat a Tory).

It really isn't. Nationally it is a very minority issue in terms of votes.
MN does not reflect the wider population.
