If there was an election tomorrow, who would you vote for?

Obviously the Tories are a complete shitshow, but Labour aren’t a lot better and I couldn’t hand on heart vote for either in good conscience right now.

So… IF a snap election was called, like in December 2019, who would you vote for? Would it make a difference to you if Boris was replaced as Tory leader? Would you even bother voting or maybe go for a totally different national or local party?

Just curious!

ginghamstarfish · 13/01/2022 10:29

For the first time there is no party I'd want to give my vote to.

NiceShrubbery · 13/01/2022 10:30

No Sabire9 out of rage at Corbyn and Labour being completely useless. Labour no longer represents all its members, no matter how much some of those members might want it to. It's fundamentally split but they keep papering over the cracks.

ToppersMum · 13/01/2022 10:32

@Blinkingbatshit

Lib Dem / green are starting to look like the only options. I’d vote Labour if they reviewed their stance on women.
Lib dem aren't clear either are they? I'm a disappointed Labour voter too. I don't know what to think. I did read that ballot papers that are spoilt by explaining reasons why you can't vote do get read, and lessons learnt. It's so difficult!
Chely · 13/01/2022 10:34

Well it will not be for either of the two with a chance to get in, always a shitty two horse race.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 13/01/2022 10:36

God knows, I'm another political homeless person.

In my constituency there's only really a choice between Conservative and Lib Dem. I would never, ever, ever vote Tory, but our Lib Dem MP is very firmly TWAW and pro-self ID, so I wouldn't feel comfortable voting for her. She didn't even bother replying to my email asking how her boss's view that single sex spaces "should not exist" would impact on women's refuges and prisons.

Yes, Daisy Cooper, I'm talking about you, you craven little toady.

Sabire9 · 13/01/2022 10:41

@ginghamstarfish

What are your broad political principles?
user1497207191 · 13/01/2022 10:44

@VenusClapTrap

Lib Dem to get the tories out.
That worked out well in 2010 didn't it!
user1497207191 · 13/01/2022 10:46

@NiceShrubbery

Will never happen without PR voting

And PR will never happen until people split the vote strategically and stop voting for the effing Tories and Labour. Got to start somewhere!!

Did you forget the 2010 GE and the Cameron/Clegg coalition???? That ended well didn't it!
TeacupDrama · 13/01/2022 10:46

right now don't think I would vote

not voting for anyone that doesn't take womens issues seriously one groups rights should not be removed to give others rights
not voting for anyone that removes fundamental human liberties orthinks lockdowns are a good idea
not voting for anyone that doesn't realise that both green issues and covid restrictions impact the poor the most and have no plan to mitigate this ( high car /flight /meat /fuel/ energy prices to cut consumpation make consumption almost impossible for por and rich can just buy at inflated prices causing resent which can lead to civil unrest as inequality of opportunity increases)
not voting for anyone that thinks financial handouts are better than creating genuine jobs or that London is the centre of the universe
not voting SNP or any other nationalist party but SNP is the option here
no that leaves precisely no party
on a local level will not vote for anyone that is a career politician I don't care whether they had a real job as doctor nurse electrician banker, self emloyed business person fishing farming painter and decorator hairdresser childminder or lawyer just not poltics at uni/ college then local government or trade union then MP I would also prefer not to have been in public sector all the time either, I do not care which school their parents sent them to, just don't pretend you are working class if you are not,
for real jobs we need people that really understand how and what is required to make businesses profitable so there are decently paid employees with training good profits healthy taxes paid to pay for services we need some manufacturing

TheGoogleMum · 13/01/2022 10:47

Probably spoil my ballot. I used to vote labour but they need to stop supporting self ID to keep my vote now

NashvilleQueen · 13/01/2022 10:48

Conservatives. I always do as don't trust Labour with economy. Rishi Sunak gave away far too much during first lockdown but Labour were saying 80 percent furlough was not enough and wanted it never to end. We need to get economy moving again to stave off high inflation.

Not sure you've got the right user name 'Caringcarer'! Is there really nothing else to think about than fiscal prudence? I mean does children living in poverty and a health service on its knees not come into it?

Indecisivelurcher · 13/01/2022 10:52

Fucking cannot believe the people saying they would vote tory. Eye tests. Affairs. Parties. These people are showing us with all of their actions that they don't think the rules apply to them. That they think they're above the plebs. That they don't give a shit about anyone outside their cosy club. Multiply that up. They have the same attitude to public health. To the environment. What will it take?! Just ltb already!

onanotherday · 13/01/2022 10:55

Labour....and be delighted to.

Sabire9 · 13/01/2022 10:59

"Labour were saying 80 percent furlough was not enough and wanted it never to end"

It wasn't enough for people on minimum wage.

Where did you read that Labour 'never wanted furlough to end? The Express? 😂

FWIW - Germany's furlough scheme was extended to run for 24 months. And was increased after the first few months to cover 80% of wages.

NiceShrubbery · 13/01/2022 11:13

It was doomed to failure with fptp. Expression of a broken system but let's keep pretending it's all fine. No change needed, right? Let the Tories keep wreaking havoc while Keir wiffles, and maybe St Sunak will save us. Seems like we'll have to reach rock bottom and 100% corruption before anyone does anything.

Mochudubh · 13/01/2022 11:13

I'm is Scotland and have pretty much always voted SNP. Until Now. I agreed with a lot of their earlier policies like free prescriptions and tuition but they've gone bonkers in the last few years. I will never vote for them as long as they support self-id, plus my MP appears to be good mates with that person who runs Edinburgh Rape Crisis.
I won't vote for any party that doesn't know what a woman is so that's Labour, Lib Dems, Greens & Socialist Workers off the list.
I support independence but can't bring myself to vote for Alec Salmond, he turns my stomach. I had hoped to see Scotland independent in my lifetime but I'm not prepared to throw women under the bus to achieve that. So looks like it's the Communists or the SDP for me.

So for the moment, it's looking like the Communists for me, or maybe the SDP if they stand here.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 13/01/2022 11:14

Difficult, although I think that the Conservatives quietly formed a coalition with the Monster Raving Loony Party some time ago.

thisplaceisweird · 13/01/2022 11:14

Been voting Green for years. No point being tactical any more just got to go with your heart. Environment + strong support of women made me choose it.

VelvetChairGirl · 13/01/2022 11:30

@PlanetNormal

Labour.

I’m a former Labour activist from the Blairite wing who refused to vote for the party when Corbyn was leader, for obvious reasons. Now the grown-ups are back in charge, I can vote Labour again.

Please stop being in denial and go back to the tories/lib dems.

yours sincerely from a labour party supporter since the days of John Smith who would never vote for starmer and stopped voted for blair after the first election because they are not labour.

Loveisthere · 13/01/2022 11:37

Conservative because we have a brilliant local MP but would like Boris to go asap

Jammallama · 13/01/2022 11:39

Labour or Lib Dem or Green - without a doubt. I have strong feminist views about gender issues but it's a single issue and the bigger problems are centred on the corruption and disrespect the tories have for the unwashed masses. Even if a local Tory was seen to be a ' good egg' one look at their voting record shows them to be of the same ilk that's you Jonny Mercer. Sadly the only party who's view aligns with mine on gender is the Tories alarming to the nth degree! No wonder many women feel politically homeless. One thing struck me on a previous thread was a PP saying that over time both the tories and labour have made grave and awful decisions - no one party is 'better' for the economy etc. Therefore I vote for the party that will attempt to build a better society for the most people which for me is a centre-left party. For me (my own subjective experience - not an objective truth) there have been two relatively stable times - John Major (!) and Tony Blair's early years. But right now, the conservatives are so far to the right that John Major would probably be the best Labour Party leader they could have Shock

quitefranklyabsurd · 13/01/2022 11:45

Given we don’t live in a presidential system your vote is for your parliamentary representative. The party with the largest number of MPs forms
A Government.

It’s the party members who elect the leader and it is the leader of the largest party who then becomes prime minister.

So look at your parliamentary candidates for your constituency. See who best represents you. If you feel strongly tactically vote to keep the Tories out.

Don’t not vote because that’s stupid. Women have fought hard to get the vote.

If you feel that strongly about not voting turn up and spoil your ballot paper in person.

Sabire9 · 13/01/2022 11:54

The point of 'being tactical' is to avoid ending up with the government that is least likely to address the issues that are most important to you.

Don't vote tactically and we'll have another 5 years of Conservative government.

BasketBlocks · 13/01/2022 11:55

@WorkEvent

Genuinely don’t know. I loathe Starmer but would usually align myself with Labour values. Green is a possibility.
You’re entitled to your view and I get that Starmer isn’t exactly Mr Charisma but I’m perplexed as to why you would loathe him. What’s he done wrong?
DolphinDave · 13/01/2022 11:58
