How often should I shower?

grosstonotshower · 12/01/2022 10:36

Ok so I'm having a few drinks with friends last night. We are all female a mix of parents and non parents. One friend mentions she is struggling to find time for o shower every day since she had her baby. I said "well I don't shower every day without a young baby," All of my friends looked at me in horror. Apparently even the ones with kids shower daily. Full disclosure I have two dd one under five and I work part time. I shower on work days plus one extra day so usually three times a week my days off usually consist of playing at home, walking dog, school run and maybe park. I would shower extra if exercising/having sex/on period etc. I bath my dc three times a week. My oh works out every week day so he does shower more than me. AIBD? (Disgusting 😂)

I’m thinking of the multiple showers a day people. Would be hard for them to have to cut down to one or have to sink wash.

SareBear87 · 13/01/2022 13:48

Every other day for me.
Any more any I find my eczema really flares up and my hair gets greasier quickly if it's washed daily.

I work from home so I guess the only person I'm likely to offend is myself 😅

CounsellorTroi · 13/01/2022 13:48

I do normally shower daily but don’t feel I need to. This thread has inspired me to cut down, as I do have dry skin. Now on my second day of washing rather than showering. DH says I don’t smell, and he would say if I did.

@AryaStarkWolf

This thread is hilarious Grin
It kept me entertained during a killer Zoom meeting last night.

I guess it would. It's hard for anyone to start going without something they're used to.

Do you know something we don't?

I'm not offended @HacerSonarSusPasos I just find it very odd how invested you are.

MaybeHeIsMyCat · 13/01/2022 14:03

@DrSbaitso

Then I would get a clean flannel for rinsing, then both go in the wash It's poo, not asbestos Same principle as if you are cleaning someone up who is incontinent, and you have flannels for bum and well, not bum!

Yes, I know it's not asbestos. I'm not asking about drilling into your large intestine.

Anyway, thank you for answering the question. Personally I find a shower, if possible, preferable to doing this.

Personally I do too but there are occasions like post op where I haven't been allowed to shower as can't get surgery site wet, or the shower broke, or people who are bed bound, disabled, etc etc. It's handy to be able to do it if you need to (post spinal surgery I had to strip wash for a couple of weeks)

Oh that's a little ironic coming from someone who has been lurking around this thread since the very beginning calling people ablist left and right for daring to say showing daily is desirable.

But sure, I'm the overly invested one 🤷‍♀️

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 13/01/2022 14:33

@HacerSonarSusPasos I call out people who put abelist comments yes. They need calling out on it. I am not ashamed for doing so. I am currently not working due to just having my knee replaced. I aren't sleeping and have an awful lot of spare time on my hands. I'm not bothered by other people's showering habits or whether or not they use a clean flannel to wash their arse with. I just don't think it's fair to be called grim, gross, disgusting and smelly for not having a shower everyday. Or am I not allowed to stand up for myself?

Or am I not allowed to stand up for myself? I'd recommend a shower chair Grin
AllThingsServeTheBeam · 13/01/2022 14:56

@ravenmum I'd get one but the cubicle is too small. We are saving for a new bathroom though. Thinking about getting a walk in bath as well as a better shower

They left out all the best bits!

LeSquigh · 13/01/2022 15:11

Doing a sink wash takes longer and is far more hassle and messier than just having a shower. HOWEVER, I have baths as I never feel properly clean in the shower and I generally have one every other day. When I was a child we had a bath once a week as the immersion was too expensive to put on every day. I bathe my kids every other day too. There is far too much unnecessary washing going on these days and it is far too drying on the skin. I do not wash at all on the days in between as there really is no need.

Hope you got paid well, Rebekah. Will be over to collect my share on Tuesday.

What do you use to clean your bum in the shower? Why is it less hygienic to use 2 flannels? And if its not, why bother mocking people on here for their washing choices?
lisaandalan · 13/01/2022 15:21

I shower or bath every day in the mornings and evenings but am aware this is a bit excessive. I would definitely shower at least once a day. X

Kanaloa · 13/01/2022 15:33

I mean it was pretty obvious that she was a ‘journalist.’

Has anybody ever actually had a real conversation like these mumsnet bait ones? I genuinely could not imagine sitting in spoons with my pals, sharing a few starters and a jug of purple rain, and Jane saying ‘by the way girlies do you all shower daily? Personally I wash my feet and fanny in the sink with flannels. Is that what you guys do? Haha proper normal chat.’

Kanaloa · 13/01/2022 15:37

Although I see this piece of groundbreaking journalism has also linked the how often we should REALLY be changing our pillows so I suppose I could use that as a conversation starter at my next social catch up. Must practice my look of horror when I find out Jane changes hers once every 7 years.
