How often should I shower?

Ok so I'm having a few drinks with friends last night. We are all female a mix of parents and non parents. One friend mentions she is struggling to find time for o shower every day since she had her baby. I said "well I don't shower every day without a young baby," All of my friends looked at me in horror. Apparently even the ones with kids shower daily. Full disclosure I have two dd one under five and I work part time. I shower on work days plus one extra day so usually three times a week my days off usually consist of playing at home, walking dog, school run and maybe park. I would shower extra if exercising/having sex/on period etc. I bath my dc three times a week. My oh works out every week day so he does shower more than me. AIBD? (Disgusting 😂)

I love my morning shower to get me going in the morning, but it's horses for courses really isn't it?

PurpleRainlnTheSky · 12/01/2022 19:51

@WorkHardPlayHard1

My friend used to call it a whore's wash when washing just face, armpits & lady bits. 😬

Eeeek! Shock Funny though. Grin

Like a pp said, showers don't have to take 10 to 15 minutes. My showers take 5 minutes, apart from when I wash my hair. Then it takes 10 minutes.

You're not disgusting. Showering daily is a modern phenomenon .

It's really not.

What on earth are you on about, Purple? Showering didn’ttake off in the UK until 1960/70s, let alone showering daily.[/quote]
You just contradicted yourself in your own post! Good one. 👍

I said 'showering is NOT a modern phenomenon.'

You said 'what you on about, it's been about since the 1960s/1970s.'

So it's not a bloody modern phenomenon then IS it?! Hmm

The 1960s and 1970s are not modern times FFS. It's 50 to 60 years ago!

@AllThingsServeTheBeam

Nice try.

I'm curious. If I'm not disgusting because I'm disabled, why is my dp?

VelmaandShaggy · 12/01/2022 20:03

This just proves that Mumsnet is not representative of the sane, fucking normal real world in which people do not shower 'at least once a day!!!!' thank god

DrSbaitso · 12/01/2022 20:10

I really did think the normal standard was to shower daily. I was aware that you could get by on every other day unless you're sweating a lot, but I really did think that, barring disability or money worries etc, if you could shower daily without it causing you trouble, most people did.

I also thought it was normal to wash your hands after using the toilet, even if it was just a wee and at home. But a thread a while back put me straight on that.

Why on earth is it sane and normal to only shower 2 or 3 times a week?

What is so 'insane' or bizarre or ABNORMAL about showering every day? Confused

Consider me insane and abnormal if you wish. But at least I'm clean.

Of COURSE it's normal to shower every day. Most people do.

There is an extraordinary attitude on here from some people towards people who shower every day. Like they're offended by it. They seem ANNOYED that people shower regularly. I think we hit a raw nerve. Grin

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 12/01/2022 20:19

@PurpleRainInTheSky I'm not offended that people shower everyday. I am offended by the incorrect assumption I am disgusting, manky, grim, gross and smelly.

ErinTingey · 12/01/2022 20:23

Plenty of people won't tell you if you whiff. It is incredibly embarrassing to address less than decent hygiene.

FangsForTheMemory · 12/01/2022 20:23

I shower twice a day but I know that's overdoing it.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 12/01/2022 20:25

@PurpleRainInTheSky well that's answered my last question that you ignored. Nice.

Ginger1982 · 12/01/2022 20:32

I shower every day, literally takes 5 minutes if I'm not washing my hair.

VelmaandShaggy · 12/01/2022 20:39

Well, if you want to pay lots of money to strip your body of its natural, protective oils & make your skin dry, covering yourself with chemicals and making bodywash, shampoo etc. companies rich, followed by moisturiser just to get back to where your balance was, but artificially, then feel free to over-shower

AllThePogs · 12/01/2022 20:39

@FangsForTheMemory doesn't it dry your skin?

DrSbaitso · 12/01/2022 20:42

Ah, so not showering is an anti-capitalist statement.
AllThePogs · 12/01/2022 20:44

It's not an anti-capitalist statement. But if I shower every day I have to spend lots of time moisturising my skin.

🤣 Sorry this is so stupid it’s hilarious. Of course the 1960s/70s are modern when you look at human history. It’s just a blink on an eye in the context of human time on Earth.

Actually, I find people who bleat on about how clean they are usually have hygiene issues.

How have you found that?

waitingpatientlyforspring · 12/01/2022 20:51

Pretty much everyday. I might not on a Sunday as I exercise and clean the house on a Saturday so often don't shower till lunch time. Or if I'm going out on a Saturday night I will shower on the night and possibly have a pj day on Sunday.

I could never only shower 3 times a week. I would feel pretty grim.

Arabellla · 12/01/2022 20:53

How have you found that?

Because people who are clean don’t feel the need to announce it to the world.

Yes but how do you know that? What life experience exactly are you drawing on?
