How often should I shower?

Ok so I'm having a few drinks with friends last night. We are all female a mix of parents and non parents. One friend mentions she is struggling to find time for o shower every day since she had her baby. I said "well I don't shower every day without a young baby," All of my friends looked at me in horror. Apparently even the ones with kids shower daily. Full disclosure I have two dd one under five and I work part time. I shower on work days plus one extra day so usually three times a week my days off usually consist of playing at home, walking dog, school run and maybe park. I would shower extra if exercising/having sex/on period etc. I bath my dc three times a week. My oh works out every week day so he does shower more than me. AIBD? (Disgusting 😂)

I really don't think the sink wash is nearly as popular in the real world as it appears to be on MN.

hugr · 12/01/2022 17:15

I don't shower every day because if I do my skin gets dry and flaky and my hair looks awful, whether the shower is hot, warm or cold. I don't smell nor does my choice affect you in any way.

bbgxd · 12/01/2022 17:16

@LuckyAmy1986

I use the time I would have spent scrubbing the shower to rinse my flannel and use it to remove anything left on my skin

You SCRUB the shower every time you use it? Fuck me that's even crazier than the people showering twice a day.

They sell nets, flannels, sponges everywhere

Lathers better than hands. Useful, if you don't use a soap bar

I was also more surprised to learn people don't use scrubbers

MaybeHeIsMyCat · 12/01/2022 17:19

Method daily shower spray in passion fruit is good, spray after shower and leave. Doesn't stink of chemicals either
I CBA scrubbing Grin

I think it's more popular with older folk who weren't brought up with daily showers and some may actually find the getting in and out of the shower problematic.
AlwaysLatte · 12/01/2022 17:22

I think at least once a day is right.

Emerald5hamrock · 12/01/2022 17:28

A sink wash is more hassle than the shower.
I shower most days.
It isn't for everyone but I feel sticky without one.

ChampagneLassie · 12/01/2022 18:25

You're not disgusting. Showering daily is a modern phenomenon - before the days of fitted bathrooms people generally bathed once a wee, and going back to Victorian times it was only a handful of times a year. We still survived! I wouldn't worry.

caringcarer · 12/01/2022 18:32

I find it is quicker to jump into the shower than wash bits at sink. I don't wash hair every day though.

Ifonlyidknownthen · 12/01/2022 18:35

I shower daily and can't feel fresh and ready to go unless I've had one, I feel grimy if I don't.

have you ever considered you do smell but only you can’t smell it?

I have a husband and adult children who would soon tell me if I was whiffy*

lollipoprainbow · 12/01/2022 18:58

I'm with you OP this constant obsession with showering at least once a day is so precious!!

riotlady · 12/01/2022 19:04

YANBU, horses for courses. My husband showers about the same as you and doesn’t smell. I try and shower every day because my pits get stinky if I don’t (chronic fatigue so don’t always manage but usually if I’m too tired to shower I’m just in the house all day anyway so nobody has to smell me!)

Mangofandangoo · 12/01/2022 19:06

Daily shower or bath here - always in the evening though when the kids are in bed and I can enjoy it!

KatyRebecca84 · 12/01/2022 19:12

I assume if you don’t shower you wash your arm pits and nether regions at the sink instead?! There’s no way I’d not have a bath or shower every day. The only rare time it happens is if I’ve had a night out and get back late and drunk so I shower when I wake up.
I’d feel gross and frankly probably start to smell a bit if I only washed 3 times a week!

PurpleRainlnTheSky · 12/01/2022 19:19

3 times a week is nasty IMO. You will stink, whether you care to admit it or not. I would be ashamed to admit that tbh. I have one every day MINIMUM, and sometimes two if I have been for a sturdy fast walk, or a swim.

And amazingly, I managed to have showers when I had a baby too!

It's really not.

I didn't really realise there were so many people who didn't shower daily. I guess this explains the times my H will say to me ' Blimey that woman was stinking" when someone has wafted past . The actual word "pits" makes me heave 😂 . Showers do not take 10 mins for me - I'm in and out very quickly unless it is one where I am washing my hair and it takes bit longer. In the Summer it may be two times a day or more depending on activities.

IamGusFring · 12/01/2022 19:24

@Lockheart

You know the shower habits of every one of your family, friends, colleagues, neighbours, and acquaintances? Why?

Do you mean how or why? I know because I have stayed at their homes or they have stayed at mine or we have holidayed together . Obviously I know know all the people on here now too 🙄

WorkHardPlayHard1 · 12/01/2022 19:36

@MsAgnesDiPesto

If you don’t need to wash hair you can have a good body wash in the shower in under a minute - just lower the shower head so it’s below face height. I never understand why people say they don’t shower every day but do pits and bits in the sink instead - that takes longer, is messy and you still have to get undressed!

So I can’t see an excuse for not doing it every day. I like at least my undercarriage to be optimally clean, and going to the loo several times a day means a daily wash is needed.

My friend used to call it a whore's wash when washing just face, armpits & lady bits. 😬 I probably shower every second day if I'm honest. A quick wash of areas stops you getting cold in the morning as clothes not all off at once ! 🚿❄️

What on earth are you on about, Purple? Showering didn’ttake off in the UK until 1960/70s, let alone showering daily.

People that smell that bad do not shower every other day

But it's not disgusting or something to be ashamed of if you're disabled? What's the difference?
