Carrie Johnson - time to resign

PersonaNonGarter · 11/01/2022 23:36

I realise she isn’t an elected politician, but Carrie Johnson gives me red mist. It’s a combination of her smug OW-ness and the flat refurbishment and general influence on the staff hires at Number 10. And the fact that she is so unaccountable.

YABU - it’s misfired anger, Boris is ultimately responsible for everything including his wife

YANBU - she has agency and influence and hiring an £££ interior designer was hardly Boris’s idea was it

The fact that she married that lying, cheating conniving BJ shows exactly the kind of person she is

Alondra · 12/01/2022 06:22

I think the problem with Boris is that he has no convictions really. He seems to flip flop with public opinion and often lies or agrees with stuff just to be liked. How many U turns has the man made?

I agree but this doesn't exonerate Carrie. She is an adult educated woman able to make her own decisions. If she thought the party was wrong she should have stayed away, it comes down to personal responsibility after all.

Tilltheend99 · 12/01/2022 06:22

I wouldn’t put her top of the list however, it has been somewhat proven that she was involved in getting several of her friends hired in various important roles so in that sense she deserves to be held to account like the rest. Plus if she was at the ‘new’ lockdown party she should face the police.

Peregrina · 12/01/2022 06:24

I don't think she can resign from being his wife.

Easily, get divorced, although since they had a Catholic wedding she would have to get an annulment if she wanted to re-marry.
Her problem I think stems from the supposedly Presidential style of Johnson, and she appears to want to cast herself in the role of First Lady. The trouble here, is he's not the President, and we don't have a vacancy for First Lady with the Queen still very much alive.

ohfook · 12/01/2022 06:30

@Knickynackynoo

I think people seem to forget what she did before rebranded herself as animal rights activist, barefoot bride......sharpest elbows and most forked tongue of the lot of em!
What did she do?
SeaWitchly · 12/01/2022 06:31

They are both revolting and the sooner the UK sees the back of them the better.

Wiredforsound · 12/01/2022 06:33

No, the buck begins and ends with Boris Johnson. If she has influenced staffing and policy it’s because he has allowed her to interfere with his job. If she has bought ugly wallpaper with his mate’s money it’s because he has allowed her to. He’s weak and he’s a coward. He is at the centre of all this corruption and if he has allowed himself to be influenced by her then all that really does is demonstrate further how unfit he is for public office. I have no idea what she’s like as a person, but he’s the one in charge, he’s the one who’s accountable, and he’s the one responsible for what’s happened.

TulipsGarden · 12/01/2022 06:35

The problem is Boris Johnson, not his wife. She wouldn't be a problem if he weren't PM. (And she'll run a mile when he's finally sacked.)

LolaLouLou · 12/01/2022 06:44

YABU - Carrie Johnson isn't particularly likable but Johnson is responsible for his decisions.

Do you know, I don't even know Theresa May's husband's first name. I don't think anyone ever accused him of influencing May.

There is a long history of blaming the wife of leaders from Marie-Antionette to Hilary Clinton.

It's not Labour's fault that Johnson held a series of parties, it is not Carrie's fault,it is not his advisors fault, responsibility should sit at Johnson's door.

Toocoldtocamp · 12/01/2022 06:46

I am no fan of Boris (the opposite) but blaming Carrie is ridiculous. Boris is a misogynist. There is so much evidence of this. He doesn't hold women as equals and he is very far from the the persona he portrays. He is very intelligent and power hungry. She is just in his orbit.
Carrie is a young woman really. Unlike a lot of her age group she's not particularly right-on, a bit power hungry and a climber. Why else would she be with Boris. There are always women clinging to the tails of powerful men. When his star wanes eventually they will divorce. It seems highly unlikely they'll be growing old together... I can't imagine either of them would want that. Hopefully she'll get a good settlement for her kids and live happily. Lots and lots of people in those circles live like this. Multiple families by different wives. Rich dad businessman/public figure. Kids will be in private school and she can go back to PR or have ponies or whatever. Maybe she'll carve out a career or maybe she won't. I'm not worried for either of them! They are on a ride that is entirely to do with their own egos. When its over it'll be over. Boris will be off to do some other important type job (without actual work). There will be other 'Carries' and the next clown steps forward...
Don't let the media manipulate you into thinking anything else.

shouldistop · 12/01/2022 06:58

@earsup

don't know but she always looks so oddly frumpy....dreadful dress sense....same as 2 other sisters ....must share same stylist or use same shops....looks dowdy and nothing ever suits those 3 !!
Yes, that's the important thing. How she dresses Hmm
Thatldo · 12/01/2022 06:59

@Toocoldtocamp.spot on.totally agree with you.

OverByYer · 12/01/2022 07:00

Carrie Antoinette. She’s as bad as him.

Iggly · 12/01/2022 07:03

I blame the members of the Conservative party.

They gave us Boris Johnson as leader.

Somechance · 12/01/2022 07:04

They can all get to feck .

I don’t blame her for his utter incompetence, lies and damage caused to this country but I do not understand why she is allowed to act like some sort of First Lady. She is nothing at all to this country, but is involved in political decisions and meetings. If the ‘original’ garden party was a meeting in the garden she shouldn’t have been there. The pair of them need to go.

SmallElephant · 12/01/2022 07:10

I'm saving my ire for Boris Johnson - the fucking smug fucking twat.

Blossomtoes · 12/01/2022 07:17

@Grantanow

If Johnson goes, she goes. But the problem is the Tories have no obvious successor for him, one that can win the next General Election so my guess is he will survive the present fracas and therefore so will she. Awful, I know, but that's politics, a rough old trade on all sides. Of course, he may not survive beyond the summer....
There’s no logic to that. Johnson couldn’t win the next GE either so the Tories would lose nothing by ditching him.
LakieLady · 12/01/2022 07:17

@UltraVividLament

Her judgement is poor and her behaviour bad but she has no direct control over anything. Boris Johnson does have control over the entire bloody country. Blame is 100% laid at his feet. The fact that his choice of wife is as bad as his choice of cabinet, advisors, friends etc should be no surprise. It's about him, not her.
It was a conflict between her and Cummings that led to his resignation, so she's not without influence.
Parsley1234 · 12/01/2022 07:17

Dreadful woman smug entitled and tone deaf she doesn’t appear very likeable and how she thinks she got the prize after he left his previous wife the QC with breast cancer she must be a complete self serving hard nosed twunt

@DifficultBloodyWoman

Apparently, she is employed by a charity for ocean conservation.

Are you suggesting she resign from that?

Or are you suggesting she should resign from being a wife and mother because you disagree with her husband’s politics?

Your obtuse reply does you no favours.
PurpleFlower1983 · 12/01/2022 07:38

@UltraVividLament You are spot on.

Everydaydayisaschoolday · 12/01/2022 07:38

@Beecham

I don't think she can resign from being his wife. Not quite sure what you're asking her to do
She will step down from this role as soon as he loses power and influence. There's no way she will still be around when he's a tired a old has been.
