Carrie Johnson - time to resign

I realise she isn’t an elected politician, but Carrie Johnson gives me red mist. It’s a combination of her smug OW-ness and the flat refurbishment and general influence on the staff hires at Number 10. And the fact that she is so unaccountable.

YABU - it’s misfired anger, Boris is ultimately responsible for everything including his wife

YANBU - she has agency and influence and hiring an £££ interior designer was hardly Boris’s idea was it

I think anyone who would even consider BJ to be a worthy life partner and father, needs their bumps feeling.

MajorCarolDanvers · 12/01/2022 13:10

1950s calling - they want their thread back.

anotherusernameugh · 12/01/2022 13:32

I don't love her either, but you do realise she can't resign from much?

PersonaNonGarter · 12/01/2022 13:53

Did Johnson say whether she was or wasn’t at the party?

Guessing the photos will drop later (once all the journalists have cropped themselves out).

She is vile and just as bad as him, anyone who has an affair with someone while their wife is getting cancer treatment needs to get inthe sea. (and she can't say she didnt know, he was already a celebrity, his wifes illness was reported and the fact he had a wife).

and then there was all the dodgy stuff about the place she had a job.

horrible horrible people utter scumbags. all his kids he doesnt see should be thanking their lucky stars daddy doesnt give a stuff about them. and good on the ex wife getting rid of him too.

feellikeanalien · 12/01/2022 14:36

At the end of the day if she is influencing her husband it's only because he allows himself to be influenced. If she is trying to interfere with government policy or the appointment of staff then it is on BJ to say no. The fact that he goes along with it (if that is indeed what happens) is more a reflection of his character than hers.

Nanny0gg · 12/01/2022 14:45

@DifficultBloodyWoman

How very misogynistic of you.
Why? Some of the decisions were hers. Boris didn't hold a gun to her head and make her attend a 'works do'' did he? (bearing in mind, she doesn't actually 'work' there anyway)
footcushion · 12/01/2022 15:36

@AsYouWishButtercup

Wet telling if the world we live in when the PM continues to break all the rules but people believe that his wife should be sacked from her charity job Hmm

Let me ask - what is it actually gonna take before a man is held accountable for his actions and not the next woman.

this!
footcushion · 12/01/2022 15:46

@NiceShrubbery

I never said she was responsible for Boris and his batshit!!

She either has no morals or no judgement or both. She knew his shocking track record with women. He was always going to be a crap husband and a useless PM.

Why marry someone like that unless you're after something?

Why would someone vote for a dim shit like him but it seems plenty did - to run the country - it's serious stuff...she's not alone in thinking he held some hidden powers somewhere.
merrymouse · 12/01/2022 15:48

The relationships board is testament to the fact that many apparently sane women marry shits.

Dinosaurwoman · 12/01/2022 15:50

Oh dear won’t somebody think of the poor menz? If in doubt blame a woman.
God I never thought I’d be reading such misogynistic shit when BJ is clearly in charge of his own actions.
He is a self serving liar and this apologist for his behaviour by blaming his wife is appalling”

BeefSupreme · 12/01/2022 15:52

@earsup

don't know but she always looks so oddly frumpy....dreadful dress sense....same as 2 other sisters ....must share same stylist or use same shops....looks dowdy and nothing ever suits those 3 !!
And?
Cuck00soup · 12/01/2022 15:58

@onlychildhamster

Boris is the PM, not Carrie. boris can tell his wife to butt out of state business and not to hire Lulu Lytle. We have evidence that it was boris who said that the flat was a tip and to hire Lulu. www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/boris-johnson-downing-street-flat-tip-lord-geidt-lord-brownlow-revamp-designer-lulu-lytle-b975292.html 'He texted Lord Brownlow on November 29 to say: “I am afraid parts of our flat are still a bit of a tip and am keen to allow Lulu Lytle to get on with it.” Lord Brownlow replied: “Of course, get Lulu to call me and we’ll get it sorted ASAP.”

The narrative of blaming Carrie absolves Boris of his responsibility. it is a very misogynistic argument- blame the woman, boris is just trying to keep his lady happy, poor man, husbands of the world all understand that wives can be demanding.

he is the PM, not her. He had to make the call, not her. Of course she is very close to my age, and suddenly she has this infinite budget to decorate the flat in her style and go to these events and influence politics. yes she is childish. But ultimately she couldn't have done those things if Boris didn't support her.

Absolutely agree that the mess is on Boris for not saying no we can't afford to spend that much on decorating a flat.

I'm not convinced however that he would have known who LL was.

I know! Did it myself, v embarrassing. Although tbf my ex could speak in coherent sentences and be safely taken out in public.
onlychildhamster · 12/01/2022 18:49

@Cuck00soup LL is apparently quite famous, I didn't know her obviously cos I don't buy 20k sofas. But prince charles attended one of her events opening a workshop.. Decorating and redecorating is one of the obsessions of the british upper and middle class; maybe its cos of the adage ' my home is my castle'.

Cuck00soup · 12/01/2022 18:54

Yeah, fair enough. It's just to look at Boris, I am struggling to believe he gives a shit about interior design Smile

Blossomtoes · 13/01/2022 11:02

She looks like thousands of other women who wear that look. You clearly have no clue about current fashion @earsup.

merrymouse · 13/01/2022 11:07

Agree.

She might have made poor relationship choices and she might have done things that people find irritating on an ‘AIBU to hate it when people…’ level, but fundamentally she is not the PM.

longwayoff · 13/01/2022 12:29

Oh, can we leave her alone now? She's a young woman with very poor taste in men and, possibly, interior design. She's chosen him and she'll have plenty of time in which to regret it. Watching Bozo happily lie away, lie, smirk, lie, smirk, I'm beginning to feel like one of his wives myself and he's treating the country as if we're all a collective abused spouse who can be talked round. I hope Carrie's taking notes

MsTSwift · 13/01/2022 12:47

She is daft to have been swayed by the charisma. His track record in how he treats wives, friends and work colleagues is abysmal.

A chap on the radio said he had no bedrock of support in the Tory party (funny that) and is only there because the public like him. He loses that it’s over.

MrsMadderRose · 13/01/2022 12:50

Watching Bozo happily lie away, lie, smirk, lie, smirk

YES! It's really, really winding me up. We all know he lies - but lying while smirking is just taking the piss. It's like he's saying Haha, you know I'm lying but there's nothing you can do, so fuck you. Angry

longwayoff · 13/01/2022 12:57

Any parent knows exactly what that smirk means. Sadly, can't stop his pocket money.

She’s not just a ‘young woman with bad taste’ - she’s a political player. An actual participant in this shit show, and central to it. Hence the focus on her.

If you’ve been following Downing Street closely over the last couple of years you will know that she has been active in the goings on. So I think we can critique her input. Which in my view has been bad bad bad for us all.

Perhaps OP can enlighten us on Carrie's failings with respect to her job in the PR function of the Oceana charity, as I have read and heard nothing about it.
