Carrie Johnson - time to resign

PersonaNonGarter · 11/01/2022 23:36

I realise she isn’t an elected politician, but Carrie Johnson gives me red mist. It’s a combination of her smug OW-ness and the flat refurbishment and general influence on the staff hires at Number 10. And the fact that she is so unaccountable.

YABU - it’s misfired anger, Boris is ultimately responsible for everything including his wife

YANBU - she has agency and influence and hiring an £££ interior designer was hardly Boris’s idea was it

Neither would I.

UltraVividLament · 12/01/2022 00:09

Her judgement is poor and her behaviour bad but she has no direct control over anything. Boris Johnson does have control over the entire bloody country. Blame is 100% laid at his feet. The fact that his choice of wife is as bad as his choice of cabinet, advisors, friends etc should be no surprise. It's about him, not her.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 12/01/2022 00:11

Apparently, she is employed by a charity for ocean conservation.

Are you suggesting she resign from that?

Or are you suggesting she should resign from being a wife and mother because you disagree with her husband’s politics?

PersonaNonGarter · 12/01/2022 00:17

Oh really I am just suggesting she fuck off out of any decision making process that has an influence on how this country is ultimately run.

I feel like that about plenty of the Special Advisors assisting ministers and ministers themselves. She just particularly annoying in that she won’t be sacked.

Boris is the PM, not Carrie. boris can tell his wife to butt out of state business and not to hire Lulu Lytle. We have evidence that it was boris who said that the flat was a tip and to hire Lulu. www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/boris-johnson-downing-street-flat-tip-lord-geidt-lord-brownlow-revamp-designer-lulu-lytle-b975292.html
'He texted Lord Brownlow on November 29 to say: “I am afraid parts of our flat are still a bit of a tip and am keen to allow Lulu Lytle to get on with it.”
Lord Brownlow replied: “Of course, get Lulu to call me and we’ll get it sorted ASAP.”

The narrative of blaming Carrie absolves Boris of his responsibility. it is a very misogynistic argument- blame the woman, boris is just trying to keep his lady happy, poor man, husbands of the world all understand that wives can be demanding.

he is the PM, not her. He had to make the call, not her. Of course she is very close to my age, and suddenly she has this infinite budget to decorate the flat in her style and go to these events and influence politics. yes she is childish. But ultimately she couldn't have done those things if Boris didn't support her.

Viviennemary · 12/01/2022 00:19

I think she is a bad influence on him. He needed somebody to read the riot act when he wanted to go the garden party.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 12/01/2022 00:23

Yeah, because husbands always listen to wives telling them not to do stupid shit.

Grown men just can’t be trusted and need to be infantilised.

🙄

PersonaNonGarter · 12/01/2022 00:24

He is the Prime Minister. But there are other people in the political machine that we can have a view on. Is it ok to have a view on Dominic Cummings or Dominic Raab or David Frost? Because they are men?

Carrie Johnson is there, she’s affecting political discourse by her own choice - and we, other women, are free to comment on that.

Boris is the same age as my mother. I am in my 20s. He is way way too old to be babied like that.

Porcupineintherough · 12/01/2022 00:26

@AlexaShutUp

I don’t have a high opinion of her at all. For one thing, she has terrible judgement, as evidenced by her choice of husband. I also suspect that the stories about her exerting an excessive influence are true.

However, the real problem is Boris. He is the elected politician and he is responsible for his actions as prime minister. Nobody else. Once he goes, which will hopefully be soon, then the Carrie problem will resolve itself.

100% this.
GrandmasCat · 12/01/2022 00:27

I bet Boris would last a week in his job, if she walked out on him.

She is running the country, so it is not misogynistic wanting her out for what she is doing, it is not that you dislike her for being a woman. I feel for her the same level of appreciation that I felt for Dominic Cummings

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 12/01/2022 00:31

They are such an entitled Teflon pair of free loaders.

This.

GiantHaystacks2021 · 12/01/2022 00:32

That marriage won't last candlelight, when he resigns.

earsup · 12/01/2022 00:32

don't know but she always looks so oddly frumpy....dreadful dress sense....same as 2 other sisters ....must share same stylist or use same shops....looks dowdy and nothing ever suits those 3 !!

Musicalmaestro · 12/01/2022 00:33

She is running the country

Don't be ridiculous.

KloppsTeeth · 12/01/2022 00:33

What pisses me off about any Prime Minister of any sex is the interest the press has in their spouse. It doesn’t matter what party they are from, why is the spouse there at all?

There is no need for word leaders to bring spouses with them on visits to sit with the spouses of other world leaders. It seems a hangover from when a woman leader was unheard of, and they had to bring the wife along to chat to the other wives. Utter shite.

GiantHaystacks2021 · 12/01/2022 00:35

@Grantanow

If Johnson goes, she goes. But the problem is the Tories have no obvious successor for him, one that can win the next General Election so my guess is he will survive the present fracas and therefore so will she. Awful, I know, but that's politics, a rough old trade on all sides. Of course, he may not survive beyond the summer....
No - they do have a successor - Rishi Sunak
Musicalmaestro · 12/01/2022 00:35

ears up
Frumpy? Dowdy?
What's that got to do with anything?

Bobinov · 12/01/2022 00:40

Carrie Symonds was one of the 14 women to testify against John Worboys. She was 19 when she got in his cab.

So?
ChargingBuck · 12/01/2022 00:42

@DifficultBloodyWoman

How very misogynistic of you.
How is it misogynistic to loathe a woman who fully deserves loathing @DifficultBloodyWoman?
WhatScratch · 12/01/2022 00:42

It makes as much sense as blaming Dilyn the dog.

Why not try holding Boris Johnson responsible for his own behaviour. Have a look at his record as London mayor. Corruption, incompetence and arrogance is his bailiwick.

I couldn't agree more with all of this.
GingerScallop · 12/01/2022 00:44

Boris was an idiotic smegmaed knob before Carrie and will continue to be. His whole lot are including his other ex, Cummings (who would have us believe is a saint, that lying, vindictive arse rug). And Carrie is not elected.
I have noted that when male leader is terrible it's often suggested he is controlled by his wife, his wife is responsible for his bad decisions. When they are good, very few credit the wife. So yes the idea that Carrie is responsible for this whole shit show, that all those grown arse women and men are powerless under her, that all those 100 people that attended the party are somehow powerless under her cunt power is
misogynistic.

grapewine · 12/01/2022 00:46

What? Don't understand what that has to do with this thread. She's not some 19-year old anymore.
