I'm now genuinely curious as to whether the high vis coat is the Screwfix one with extra screenprinting on, or if it's specially hand stitched by skilled tailors with super high quality fabrics, because it's from a high quality high priced retailer.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 11/01/2022 14:07

@Blossomtoes, my Highways jacket was from the men’s Balenciaga offerings. Hope that rebalances your chi.

@DeepaBeesKit Your money is earned; naturally you want to conserve it. If you obtained it through illicit means, maybe you would want to spend as much of it to make the most of it because deep down you know you will get exposed one day.

www.scmp.com/week-asia/politics/article/2147614/malaysias-former-first-lady-becomes-bag-lady-why-rosmah-mansors

Also maybe not even through illicit means, Carrie Symonds spent over 100k on a flat renovation budget in a flat that she might not even live in the next 6 months! It wasn't her money, she didn't care.

As for the billionaire class, they have a limited number of years left on this earth. Their descendants are already well provided for. Jeff Bezos' netw orth increases by $142,667 per minute. tick tock tick tock, he just earned another 100k. He is too stingy to give it away, but his wife is giving away her share, and she still keeps getting richer every minute because when you have wealth like that, it keeps growing even if you literally throw dollar bills at people. And yes a lot of it is in stock, but such vast wealth means that he can afford to buy anything he likes.

So yes not only are there rich people with bad taste, there are people related to rich people with bad taste. People in the same league as Jeff Bezos could literally organize huge convoys of their friends/relatives/acquaintances to buy up the whole of balenciaga and they still wouldn't have spent their wealth. And there are people who aren't even billionaires but they have at their disposal millions or even billions as they are from corrupt countries. Like Rosmah. She once filled up a plane with all her shopping, and I can't believe that everything would have been nice and tasteful. Some would have looked pretty ridiculous but she probably didn't even notice it on the bill. When you fill up an entire plane, how do you keep track.

People say the middle class are out of touch with the working class but to me, they aren't the problem. they are a group of people whose spending power is decreasing by the day. there is so much wealth in the world that the average middle class consumer who buys boden and joules is a literal peasant in comparison

It looks like someone has been putting super glue on the pavement again.

@Bluebluemoon

Balenciaga is definitely not aimed at the typical MN user.

They seem to be aimed at hairdressers if my local salon is anything to go by - they all wear those horrid black trainer-sock ones. They make everyone's feet look massive!

@Bluebluemoon - those black trainer sock ones are vile - I walked into one of the 'high street trendy' hairdressers to get a product the other day and at least 2 of the stylists were wearing them.

I only hope they're comfy. And yes their feet looked huge in them.

TheDogsMother · 11/01/2022 14:24

@BaronessBomburst

I think you could get much the same effect with a cheaper pair and a bored puppy.

Reminds me of The programme Nathan Barley. Desperate to be seen as different.

3scape · 11/01/2022 14:29

The trainer sock ones are odd looking. I was about eye level with a pair on a very slim younger man when I was on a escalator the first time I'd seen them. He had too baggy shorts on and an oversized jumper too. He did rather look as though he'd borrowed someone's clothing. But i guess they're comfy or such.

Fridafever · 11/01/2022 14:34

My hairdresser also wears Balenciaga trainers! How funny, it seems to be a weird micro market for them.

oviraptor21 · 11/01/2022 14:43

Has anyone mentioned the Emperor's New Clothes yet?

@errnerrcallnernnernnern

It’s not about ‘money going spare’.

Just because you have £975 in the bank doesn’t mean you can afford shoes costing £975.

£975 is probably the equivalent of £50 for many well off people.

The trainers themselves are very nice.

OP didn't say if you have the money in the bank.

OP said if it was spare, which means they would be affordable

Spudlet · 11/01/2022 14:49

They look so bouncy though! I’d be a bit worried tbh. I’m 5’10, if I wore them to the local pub I might go through the ceiling, what with it being a little old building… do they do hard hats to match the donkey jackets?

That's what 'going spare means' as in.. it means, you don't actually need the £975
fourandtwo · 11/01/2022 14:55

They look like those running blade things.

toomuchlaundry · 11/01/2022 14:56

Definitely a case of 'they saw you coming'

‘Emperors new clothes’ in 2022

eagerlywaitingfor · 11/01/2022 15:04

@Blossomtoes

Oh not another of these tedious threads where other women’s fashion choices are rubbished. The last one was less than a week ago and it didn’t end well.
The trainers in the OP are men's trainers, not women's, and so is the high-viz stuff mentioned.

We're not taking the piss out of women's fashion choices, we are guffawing at the sheer absurdity of what some fashion designers come up with, irrespective of the target gender.

Hideous, I wonder if anyone buys them?

SailingNotSurfing · 11/01/2022 15:15

I'm so loaded I've just found £975 down the back of the sofa so I've ordered myself a pair. I'm presuming they are designed so that I can bounce along the pavement on my way to Aldi Waitrose?
