AIBU to complain to sainsburys about this?

Am I being a cranky old witch, mumsnet?

Today on a 8.30-9.30 food delivery slot the delivery driver buzzed to get into the building at 8.20 and 8.21. I was still in bed and half dressed at this point. As soon as the 8.20 buzz happened I got up and began pulling clothes on. By 8.22 I was opening my front door and he was there (I'm not sure how he got through the communal front door in the end, possibly also buzzed my neighbours?). He said 'I tried buzzing but nobody let me in' to which I responded 'yes because it's not 8.30' to which he appeared to not know what to say. (A mumbled apology)

The delivery drivers are often a bit early but always call me from the van out of courtesy to check it's okay to come up early.

AIBU number 1- AIBU to think it's not okay to turn up 10 mins early in the morning with a food delivery?

AIBU number 2- AIBU to complain to the supermarket on their online tool to ask their them to remind their drivers to be more considerate if they are turning up early, particularly in the morning? (I don't want anything out of this, genuinely do just want to not have them keep coming early. I picked 8.30-9.30 instead of 8-9 for a reason).

You're being ridiculous.

shiningstar2 · 10/01/2022 17:41

Complain because somebody on the minimum wage or pretty near it was 10 minutes early? With probably a long day of driving and lifting heavy bags ahead of him? I wouldn't.

Sirzy · 10/01/2022 17:41

So you know they are sometimes early yet don’t factor that into the slot you book? Hmm

TangledNemo · 10/01/2022 17:42

@DiddyHeck that is not true. I used to work for Sainsburys too. They can block accounts if they think they’re buying stuff in bulk for resale (like formula), or if there’s lots of complaints etc, but a one off complaint about an early delivery wouldn’t even register.

The person dealing with the complaint would see lots of petty complaints every day. I would complain in the hope of getting money off a future order and/ or a note added to my account stating I don’t want future deliveries but I would be delighted at a early delivery so I could get on with the rest of my day sooner. I wouldn’t complain with the intent of getting the driver in trouble.

YANBU to be a bit miffed, YABU to complain.

If he'd buzzed at 8.20, not got an answer, and then returned your stuff to the store undelivered then YWNBU to complain, but as events unfolded the way they did it seems v petty to complain.

Also, does your buzzer system have a service button? Most do, to allow the postie access to the building for a time period in the morning. Delivery drivers often use those, and it may well be that he didn't buzz your neighbours

RunningInTheWind · 10/01/2022 17:48

Grin I think this song probably needs to be immortalised and brought out for many AIBUs.

IamGusFring · 10/01/2022 17:51

You're being a cranky old witch as you asked.

LetHimHaveIt · 10/01/2022 17:51

No, I wouldn't complain. In the sense that it wouldn't even occur to me. Poor bloke.

OddSocksSparklyDocsandDungaree · 10/01/2022 17:52

Ridiculous Hmm

YABVU. If your delivery was due 8.30-9.30, you should have been up and ready for it arriving, probably 15 minutes before the time. The drivers get Minimum Wage (Asda do anyway), don't run to the exact minute.

StoatMilk · 10/01/2022 17:58

Give yer head a wobble Op

DDivaStar · 10/01/2022 17:58

Half an hour yes complain, 10 minutes no thats petty.

Callingallskeletons · 10/01/2022 18:01

Think you’re being utterly ridiculous tbh

LetHimHaveIt · 10/01/2022 18:01

@RunningInTheWind

I'm on a 'neighbourhood' site, on which people are forever writing humorous ditties that make me want to open a vein with my teeth. But that is class.

ChargingBuck · 10/01/2022 18:04

Would you rather be an overworked, underpaid, unappreciated delivery driver ... or a person who has the luxury of affording a home delivery OP?

Be the bigger person. You're not considering how stressful & target-driven delivery driving is.

Fraternaltwin · 10/01/2022 18:04

You should have been well up by 8.20 is they were due to arrive from 8.30. Don’t embarrass yourself by complaining. Don’t be a dick.

Mrsmadevans · 10/01/2022 18:06

YABU

Luckymummytoone · 10/01/2022 18:07

I wouldn’t dream of complaining 😳😳😳😳 wow!

BatshitBanshee · 10/01/2022 18:07

Oh for goodness sake Op. If you're old enough to order groceries for delivery, you're old enough to be up in time (even 10 mins before!!!!) To let them in. YABVVVVVU. Always a chance they'll show up early and also, grocery workers are so busy right now because more people are ordering online. Get over yourself. 9 minutes more for a lie in - Christ alive. Book a later slot in future.

whiteworldgettingwhiter · 10/01/2022 18:08

What a first world problem! He was ten mins early not two hours!!

YABU

Hellolittlestar · 10/01/2022 18:09

You are grumpy. Do not complain!

MrsPotatoHead22 · 10/01/2022 18:11

This happens to me every time. I go for a 7-9 delivery slot with Asda and its always here before 7. Usually 15mins earlier. I've adapted myself to this though and now get up at half 6 to get dressed!
