Reclining seats😉

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 08/01/2022 12:21

@Joolsin

Small, fast, loud and good-looking.
Why loud?Just to say "look at me" or to annoy everyone?
FeelMyBicep · 08/01/2022 12:23

Heated seats & heated windscreen has been lovely plus time saving on cold mornings!

Itonlytakesonetree · 08/01/2022 12:28

Small, 5 doors, CD player. Cupholders and armrest storage bonuses.
I hate big cars, I like little cars. They only make stupidly small or too big nowadays. Like Goldilocks, I keep searching for just right.

Lockheart · 08/01/2022 12:28

The problem with adding all these fancy things like heated steering wheels and heated wing mirrors (what's wrong with gloves / a cloth and a scraper?!) and integrated iPad holders and 50 parking sensors complete with video is that there is much more to go wrong with your car and it's going to cost you more in terms of maintenance.

It's like the thread from someone whose washing machine was stuck on Chinese rather than English. Why does the washing machine need a fecking language in the first place?! It's a washing machine!

Don't let the shiny gadgets distract you from proper function and safety.

@Howshouldibehave

Things I’ve got now that I love are-heated seat, glass roof, air conditioning and 360 degree birds eye view camera for parking. DH likes the cruise control but I don’t really use that.

I really want a heated windscreen though. Which cars have this now-I thought it just used to be a Ford thing?

Ford extended it to Land Rover/Range Rover and Jaguar when they (Ford) owned them, so they are on most Jags and Landys now as well as Fords - as far as I know that's it - apart from Subaru who don't have full heated screen but did have heat pads under the wipers on some models. In a way the heated screens are being superseded by electric cars where you can use an app to warm the car before you set off.

@funnelfanjo

Heated windscreen. Mainly so I don’t have to scrape in the mornings but invaluable for clearing condensation.
FORD QUICK CLEAR

Ford Clear your windscreen quickly, with Quickclear

This clever feature is designed to get you on the move quickly on frosty mornings. Just touch a button and ultra-thin filaments can superheat to de-ice, de-fog and de-mist your windscreen as well as help de-freeze the wipers. The system works in seconds, even if it’s below zero outside.

Often these things don't live up to expectations, but this does, no more scraping windows or sprays etc. it is so quick. I like Fords anyway, but this has me hooked for life unless another company can prove theirs is just as good.

Then stuff I'd assume most cars have these days.

Remote Central Locking
Electric wing mirrors

Hatchback
Big Boot

I will be buying a glass hammer & seat belt cutter though. I don't know why I didn't think of it myself! I was in a car accident years ago & couldn't get out, it was terrifying. For a longtime I did have a parcel type cutter and a small hammer in the car, but started to worry about kids having access to them... but a sealed pack of window hammer/seatbelt cutter sounds good.

Mind you, touch wood, haven't actually needed them in the last 30+ years. & hip/knee/shoulder problems would probably be more the issue these days 🙄🙄

Enjoy being bendy while you can!!!

Rare.

FORD QUICK CLEAR

Clever marketing from Ford. Other manufacturers were offering electrically heated windscreens before Ford. Land Rover, for example.

MrsSkylerWhite · 08/01/2022 12:44

Heated seats. Husband has chronic back pain and the car is the most comfortable place for him to sit. Means we can get some sort of holiday, touring.

GTAlogic · 08/01/2022 12:45

Wheels and doors 😂

Other than that, nothing really. I've driven all sorts of cars from a brand new fiesta to top of the range merc to old bangers that were so rusty you could see the road through the floor. The more we rely on technology the less capable we are when that technology inevitably fails.

Sleepyteach · 08/01/2022 12:46

Heated front windscreen. I was quite lucky as I got a lot of thinks from my “would like but not essential” list with my new car. It’s a 2018 plate and some of the newer models have less features because of shortages of electrical parts.

Incorrect - Land Rover only had them because they (Land Rover) were owned by Ford at the time. Ford was first.

It also appears that as Ford's patent has expired they are now offered on VAG (VW Audi Skoda SEAT) cars.

ginghamstarfish · 08/01/2022 12:50

Economy of use, inc fuel economy, good user reviews, 5 doors, good safety stats, hatchback style. Never had any of the other fancy features so can live without them.

ItsFuckingJuneDadQuickHide · 08/01/2022 12:55

4L or above 😀

LordEmsworth · 08/01/2022 12:55

Heated windscreen. It was standard on my last car (Fiesta) so when I got my new Mini I knew I needed to pay the extra for it... I will never scrape a windscreen again!

My new car parallel parks itself. I have yet to be brave enough to try that feature out...

etulosba · 08/01/2022 12:58

Inncorrect - Land Rover only had them because they (Land Rover) were owned by Ford at the time. Ford was first.

Check your facts. You are wrong.

Incidentally, the Minis that won the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally had electrically heated front screens. It isn’t a new idea.

CandyCaneLane0 · 08/01/2022 12:59

Air con
Bluetooth
Proper handbrake
Heated front and rear windscreens
Auto lights
