... Is when someone comments you look good for your age?

I got told I look good for 40 today.

No one ever said that in my 30s

I feel old

I have never felt 'old' inside. I think my children have kept me young. do they sleep through the night?

I'm 36 and realised I'm twice as old as 18 year olds. I remember getting a shock when I realised there were adults who could drink alcohol born after 2000.

I went into the pharmacy yesterday to sort out a mix up about 3 prescriptions- mine and those of my 72 year old mum and 9 year old son.
I was wearing a hat (it was freezing), glasses and a mask.
Later they rang me to discuss and said my mum had been in. So confused me (40s for my mum 70s).
I was a bit depressed.
Also at work the patients have stopped saying I look too young to be a dentist. After 20 years in practice I obviously look old enough now.

I’m in my fifties and I don’t feel old. My attitude isn’t old. I don’t think I look old. But society would like to write us off I think. Society can FTFO frankly.

I work FTOTH
I have a busy social life and a great sex life
I (mostly) DGAF what other people think
My children are adults and don’t need me as much (although anyone who thinks kids over 18 don’t need their mum has another think coming, they’re still needy and take up plenty of time, money and attention)
I look ok for my age
I’m pretty much happy with life

It’s better than the alternative!

BlueShirtGirl · 08/01/2022 14:15

I got biscuits for Christmas and that made me realise I’m old at 38- plus the givers are knob heads.

Ps I only feel old because my body is, my knees are gone and I have heart issues, back issues and roseacea, I know 40 isn't old but it is when you come home from work feeling like you've run marathons, so it's not ageism, people are allowed feel old if they want too!!!

Wingedharpy · 08/01/2022 14:33

One of the greatest joys of being old is that you don't give a feck that you areWink

wakeupandswitchon · 08/01/2022 14:43

@DolphinFC

Old is a state of mind not a number.
Definitely, my Mam is 67 my Dad, 71. Both are very active, fit, and well, look good for their ages too, great health, no smoking, and little drink. My sister-in-law is 67 also, she smokes, drinks (quite a bit), doesn't exercise, and doesn't have an active social life, as a result, she appears much older. Dresses older and seems to act older too if that makes sense.
Hyenaormeercat · 08/01/2022 20:06

Watching TV series from the 70/80/90s googling the main actors and seeing how much they have aged...why, oh, why do I think they will look the same when I look in a mirror and see my mother! 🤣

Confusedmeanderings · 08/01/2022 23:30

You are old when your kitchen has a drawer specifically for medications of various sorts!

LegallyBlende · 09/01/2022 00:15

When you find your name in a "list of old people's names" on a thread on MN Angry

towers14 · 09/01/2022 08:06

Feeling/ being old, to a certain extent, is all about your attitude to life. My DF & FIL are the same age (83) one has a zimmer and watches Doc Martin, hasn't updated his clothes in years, the other still drives, goes to the cinema, dresses in designer clothes. Both have minor health issues but the difference in their lives is stark. I'm mid 50s, go to the gym loads, have an active job and dress fashionably and don't feel old, (most of the time🤣)

stayathomer · 09/01/2022 08:16

One thing that does make me feel old is seeing international rugby players whose dads I remember playing.
Yes! In sport, someone said about Schmichael (excuse the spelling, but the goalie!) and I said 'whoah, cool he still plays!). Nope! It's why I love hearing about golf (and I hate golf!), as you know all the players

notacooldad · 09/01/2022 08:35

I feel old ( and also proud) that my son's and their friends from primary schoolhave now started settling down and buying their first homes now they are 21/22. It doesnt seem that long since I was the same age doing that!

elliejjtiny · 09/01/2022 08:44

When the man you fancied in casualty/holby city when you were at school is on tv playing a dad of teenagers.

Redhotchllisteppa · 09/01/2022 08:44

@IglesiasPiggl

When people start calling you "madam" in shops.
Yes I got my first Madam instead of Miss from a waiter recently. That's the moment i knew i was starting to look old.
longtimemarried · 09/01/2022 08:54
