... Is when someone comments you look good for your age?

I got told I look good for 40 today.

No one ever said that in my 30s

I feel old

@cptartapp

I'm 50 tomorrow. Remember my 40th like it was yesterday. Feeling old.
Happy birthday!! 🥳🥳🥳
Wombat43 · 08/01/2022 10:21

@Geom372

Watching Indiana Jones and thinking that Harrison Ford is sex on legs when every time you've seen it previously you thought he was an old man.
Worse, he's stated looking young to me now!
TyrannosaurusRegina · 08/01/2022 10:22

@BitchyHen

If you trip up and people look concerned and try to help you rather than laughing. Then you know you are old.
Yes! And its classed as 'having a fall' rather than fell!
Roominmyhouse · 08/01/2022 10:22

I’m 40 this year and always get told I look good for my age, it doesn’t make me feel old - I love it!

I still think of myself as young, I know I’m not young young but I’m not old!

Echoesandsilence · 08/01/2022 10:27

I'm 32.

I used to be the youngest person at work but now we have younger graduates and associates in. (Age 22+).

We had a video call team meeting yesterday and I wonder if they see me as old. They probably do.

MadAntonia · 08/01/2022 10:46

Just before the start of the pandemic, on a crowded bus, a young man offered me his seat.

I’m 52.

MandalaYogaTapestry · 08/01/2022 10:54

Had a Zoom with a plastic surgeon about a mini lift after seeing Christmas photos😳 A misguided move, no doubt, as he really went with the idea! Not a mini lift, you need a Smas lift. And your eyelids, do they look ok for you? And under your eyes, i can fix that too.

I am only 42! And just a month ago had someone tell me "wow, your skin looks really great". Friends always ask me for skincare advice too.

I blame recent Covid and associated lack of sleep.

HappydaysArehere · 08/01/2022 11:20

It’s when you try to renew your passport and stare at the iPad camera to conform to the rules like don’t smile, no hair on your face, stare straight at the camera, keep straight and eyes wide open. My eyelids have dropped over the years.Having tried it so many times to get everything right - you see the result - a tired, fraught 80 year old face which looks a 100 but the technology says “good”. Then you really know you are old.

Firstruleofsoupover · 08/01/2022 11:20

I used to think it was when you bought one of those plaited multi-coloured thread plaity things to help with sewing. Mine is at least twelve years old though.

stayathomer · 08/01/2022 11:24

(I'm 41) When you look at eg Graham Norton or in a magazine and say 'I don't know who any of these people are.' Or I work in retail and people assume I'm the manager. (I'm the newest thereGrin)

thepeopleversuswork · 08/01/2022 12:06

This is probably going to sound twattish but I am 50 and I don’t feel old because I just refuse to.

I have always loathed the ageism in society and I just am not going to allow myself to be beaten down by other people’s prejudices.

Just don’t entertain it. Literally don’t go there or think about it. I dare say a time will come when I will start to feel the limitations of my age but until that happens fuck what other people think is appropriate for my age.

lljkk · 08/01/2022 12:09

I felt old In my early 30s, probably. Because I could clearly recall stuff that happened 30 yrs earlier. And 30 years is a long time!!

Ask any 12 year old. 34 is massively "old" already.

FrankGrillosWrist · 08/01/2022 12:11

Aaaw shut up, your just babes in arms.

Onelifeonly · 08/01/2022 12:20

I'd love to be 40 again! At the time I hated it. I remember being told I didn't look 40 at the hotel where I had a 40th party. It wasn't a surprise as I've always looked much younger than I am (at 35 I remember being told I looked 25 etc). Be happy about it - it's much better than having people think you are older than your actually are. Anyway, for me, after 40 my life changed a lot for the better, as at 40 I didn't have any children.

I have never felt 'old' inside. I think my children have kept me young. I find some of my friends act like older women and I find that frustrating, others don't and are just who they have always been.

My advice- don't look back (hard!), focus on the present and the immediate future, and don't look too far ahead. Live for today, in other words.

Onelifeonly · 08/01/2022 12:25

As for actors etc looking young in old films - yes! I saw a photo of my brother in his 20s at my dad's house over Christmas and was struck by how beautiful and young he looked. At the time he was not considered anything special- presentable yes, but not one of the really good looking guys.

maddening · 08/01/2022 12:34

I think 70 is old, 85 onwards people go v old ime

TheHateIsNotGood · 08/01/2022 12:40

Heard this on the Radio a few months ago:

"when you open a packet of biscuits with scissors"

And I just thought the packaging had changed.....

Wagsandclaws · 08/01/2022 12:49

I'm 50 at the end of the month. 18 years ago my ex bf sister turned 50 and they seemed really old - I'm surprised at how young I feel, my body disagrees though.

Onelifeonly · 08/01/2022 12:51

In that case I'm ancient! Although, in mitigation, I would say the lighting in our kitchen is not great.....

thereisonlyoneofme · 08/01/2022 12:52

Shop assistants never question if you are old enough to buy booze or fags.
When you are buying tickets in person at an event at the senior rate, no one asks you to prove you are over 65

Onelifeonly · 08/01/2022 12:54

My mum turned 50 when I was 23. I was home for the weekend and helped her prepare food for the house party she was having that evening. At the time I thought it was so old but I can now see she was embracing it and having lots of fun.

Nillynally · 08/01/2022 12:54

When you fall over and no one laughs

Onelifeonly · 08/01/2022 12:56

I don't like it when I'm at the self service till in a supermarket buying an over 18 item. The staff have to come over and confirm that you're 'visibly over 25' (why 25?). They never even glance at me before confirming! Yes I'm over twice that, but a proper check would be nice!

Ponoka7 · 08/01/2022 13:02

I'm of the same mindset. On a personal level gaining another year is meaningless to me.

Yes! Same here :)
