Woman across the street staring into my house

Littlejayx · 07/01/2022 13:57

I live on a busy road in a large village, over the past few weeks I have been home more due to home working starting up again. I used to get alerts from my lighting system that ‘living room had been triggered’ and thought it must be passing traffic, until I was sat down working today to see a neighbour stood scouring my whole living room (not seeing me due to positioning) then light sensor turned on (was off as I hadn’t moved)

I’ve had quite a few run ins with her about letting her dog foul outside my front door/drive, using my bins and trying to stop my Gardner trimming hedges. What do I do? 😩 last time I spoke to her she shouted at me on the street and threatened to report me for assault!

I’m living alone with two young children and hate the thought of her stood looking in my house

Don’t do anything tit for tat like staring into her windows. You’ll put yourself in the wrong.

Document. Film if you can.

Dissuade. Setting up the alarms is a good idea.

Report. This is not normal behaviour, the woman is verbally abusive & confrontational.

Keep safe.

Swampy1958 · 08/01/2022 19:04

Buy a body cam and wear it to gather evidence of what she's doing - which is wrong, then present it to the police. What she's doing is harassment and invading your privacy.

007Stocko · 08/01/2022 19:05

So I would keep a record of dates and times. If anything escalated then its important evidence.

I would then look to install a ring camera doorbell and a CCTV camera up out of reach, preferably with sound recording also. Many people would be surprised at the cost of having something professionally installed - it wasn't anywhere near as expensive as I thought it would be so worth doing if finances allow.

dementor72 · 08/01/2022 19:06

She is trespassing and violating your peace .
I would keep a log of incidents , including the foul language and ask for advice from the local police . As your situation regarding domestic abuse is known to them they will have an increased duty of care towards you and your children .
Don’t become a tragic statistic, if not addressed some situations escalate fast .

You can buy attractive roller blinds which allow you to see out but no-one can see in, no matter how close they stand. They're very very affordable.

Dontwanttolivewithmylover · 08/01/2022 19:11

Here are the blinds I mentioned.

@berryhol

We have IKEA roller blinds, they’re great as let in all sunlight but can’t see in. I’d invest in these but also kill her with kindness, keep asking her in for tea and she will soon loose interest. She’s probably feeling agitated and defensive as you’ve confronted her (rightly) a few times
Please never do this. The woman has accused OP of assault in the past, she must be kept at arms distance.
MoiraNotRuby · 08/01/2022 19:19

Can you speak into your house alarm? I think doing a robot voice saying INTRUDER ALERT, INTRUDER ALERT should make her piss off.

Lolabray · 08/01/2022 19:19

What a weirdo. If this persists I’d call the police.. or give her the birdie but then is that adult lol

Dancingonmoonlight · 08/01/2022 19:25

I'd set off the alarm and/or take photos too.

I wouldn't get blinds if you don't want to get blinds.

Somebody does this to our house too. I used notice it occasionally but now can see she does it every time she passes the house. I've not idea why as the house is identical to every other house on the road. She has very obvious additional needs so it doesn't bother me tbh.

mde1982 · 08/01/2022 19:29

You know as you go into home bargains they have that fake stick on policeman to the side of the door?

Get one and stick it on your window looking right back at her!

KittyRedSocks · 08/01/2022 19:32

Cardboard policeman might do the trick Grin

Experiment627 · 08/01/2022 19:33

I want to know what happens!

RenoSusan · 08/01/2022 19:35

Buy several of those large googly eyes and put them on your window looking out. She will feel she is being watched.

douliket · 08/01/2022 19:37

Ask her to stop.
Set up a camera.
Record her. Show to police.
Then it won't be her word against yours.
Make sure to get evidence.

areyoujokingme · 08/01/2022 19:37

It’s seriously weird. I would also feel uneasy. Keep a note of every occasion it happens. Have you considered some one way film for your windows? Personally I would have approached her as she stood at my window “oi can I help you” but i realise not everyone would feel comfortable doing so

MammaMacgill87 · 08/01/2022 19:38

I'd got for the triple whammy, sprinklers, house alarm and jumping up at the window in a Halloween mask. 🤣

WiddlinDiddlin · 08/01/2022 19:52

Put a notice in the window in TEENY TINY letters so shes gotta get her face right against the glass and bend down...

FUCK OFF YOU NOSEY FUCK

or... 'Trunky want a bun' cos that amuses me.

Caoilinsmum1 · 08/01/2022 19:54

I’m afraid I’d have to stand there in the buff and the embarrass the heck out of her 😂. Hope you manage to discourage her somehow!

uhohspaghettiohh · 08/01/2022 20:01

Tip a bucket of water out of the upstairs window when she does it. Cheeky mare.

IndieR22 · 08/01/2022 20:05

I'd get some security cameras. That is strange behaviour!

YourenutsmiLord · 08/01/2022 20:05

Dog fouling - You could splash some Jeyes fluid around or some dettol - strong smell would put off dogs. The Jeyes fluid is pretty strong - might deter others from coming in garden but don't let DCs walk it into house.

Tzimi · 08/01/2022 20:07

@Littlejayx

I don’t want my house plants to suffer because she wants to stare in!

My brothrr has spoken to her about staring into my car when she was dropping something off before but her response was a few four word expletives

It sounds as though this woman is mentally deranged. Maybe you should get some advice from a medical person as to what to do?
threatmatrix · 08/01/2022 20:08

Wouldn’t it be wonderful of you could get a neon sign that you could switch on when she’s doing it saying feck orf.

Spinninsweetness · 08/01/2022 20:09

She sounds a complete nut job, I'd use the film and the alarm !! Grin what a weirdo ! As someone said above, it's harassment.
