@Rainbunny

The hearing is happening now and ND's lawyers are claiming that his visa was cancelled because the government didn't want to excite the anti-vaxx community. Nice try...
It wouldn't have suited them to claim, more accurately, that his visa was cancelled because the government didn't want to rouse the fury of the anti-antivaxx majority of the country (was it 84% at the last poll who expressed themselves as fed up with the anti-vaxxers?) by letting him waltz through the laws everyone else has had to keep.
AlternativePerspective · 14/01/2022 17:02

He is going to be detained.

SirChenjins · 14/01/2022 17:16

But he could still play?

LumosSolem · 14/01/2022 17:21

@SirChenjins

But he could still play?
I'm really counting on all the Aussies showing him what they think of him if that happens 😁
EmmaPaella · 14/01/2022 17:22

Sue Barker thinks Australia are NBU. I'm going with Sue.

mindyourcustomers · 14/01/2022 17:31

Up until now, I don't think Federer or Nadal have been involved in any scandals

SirChenjins · 14/01/2022 17:46

I'm really counting on all the Aussies showing him what they think of him if that happens

Oh I so hope so.

ajandjjmum · 14/01/2022 18:29

I was really impressed to hear Sue Barker speaking. He is able to make his own choices, those choices have consequences. Perfect.

Roussette · 14/01/2022 18:47

I must listen to that aj.

Martina Navratilova who I talked about on this thread was really measured about it all. She spoke sense.

BaconAndAvocado · 14/01/2022 19:01

He clearly wants to be loved as widely loved as Federer and Nadal
That was never going to happen even before this shitshow.

milkyaqua · 14/01/2022 22:25

Oh, hooray! It's going to be a different judge now:

Novak Djokovic v Minister for Immigration has been transferred from the Federal Circuit Court to the Federal Court of Australia.

The hearing is listed before Justice O’Callaghan at 10:15am AEDT tomorrow, Sat 15 Jan 2022.

errnerrcallnernnernnern · 14/01/2022 22:35

Just read this on Guardian

Nebojsa Covic, a former politician and now the owner of the Red Star Belgrade basketball club, said the controversy has made Djokovic "a symbol of the free world" no matter what happens.

A symbol of the free world? 🙄🤣

SirChenjins · 14/01/2022 22:58

Does he understand what “symbol of the free world” means? Confused

StartupRepair · 15/01/2022 00:17

The Australian government has refused to censor its own MPs for spreading antivax rubbish. They really can't argue that this is their issue with Novak. No-one comes out of this well.

user1471447863 · 15/01/2022 09:34

I hope his sponsors get wary about being associated with him

AlternativePerspective · 15/01/2022 09:48

I think his sponsors are on to a winner though. Because people will watch him purely because of how controversial he is.

And even if he is boo’d by the crowds, whatever it is they’re advertising will be there for all to see.

Personally I don’t believe he will be deported. The whole thing is a farce.

ajandjjmum · 15/01/2022 10:35

I hope he is deported.

Regarding sponsorship, surely the attention he is drawing is largely negative, which I wouldn't have thought he sponsors would not want to be associated with?

JustUseTheDoorSanta · 15/01/2022 11:00

@RobotValkyrie

Are we allowed to vote that both Australia and that tedious tennis dude are BU?

The whole thing is a joke. Whether someone is allowed in a country or not should be a straightforward yes/no question that gets answered before you even board a plane.
In this case, tennis dude also happens to be a world #1 prick. But the whole Australia border control system is insane.

So you're cool with anyone lying in their visa application, and they must be allowed get away with it? Interesting stance!
AlternativePerspective · 15/01/2022 11:27

I suspect the sponsors are biding their time.

If he’s deported then they won’t want to be associated. But if he isn’t then he will be the hero who has overcome adversity.

Not sure that’s the case, sponsors have generally shown themselves to be very risk averse,
Blackbird2020 · 15/01/2022 16:04

Well, he is essentially is ‘getting away’ with it. It was a Travel Declaration, not a visa application, for what it’s worth. And it’s not the reason Australia are going with for cancelling his visa.

Madcats · 15/01/2022 16:40

I have Aussie family so have been watching press from both sides of the world for a while.

Given the date of his unfortunately times Covid infection, and subsequent socialisation, it seems odd that the OZ officials haven't requested an S & N antibody test?

milkyaqua · 16/01/2022 06:56

Novak Djokovic has lost his Federal Court fight to stay in Australia

His application has been dismissed.

milkyaqua · 16/01/2022 06:58

The decision was unanimous between the three judges.

Yes!

Lauraa7 · 16/01/2022 07:01

He also faces a ban for three years from entering Australia, just listening to the news here in Melbourne
