It's not over yet though. He still could play.

SirChenjins · 14/01/2022 08:21

Agree @Rousette - I suspect we'll still see him on court.

Sirzy · 14/01/2022 08:29

What day is he due to play next week? If he can’t do anything to appeal before Monday then the timing could well mean he can’t

CurzonDax · 14/01/2022 08:32

I will admit to having no idea about the law and visa applications etc, but how can he appeal/a judicial review be made? He lied on his visa form.
To me, this seems very black and white, but I may be looking at it in a very simplistic way.

I hope he isn't allowed to play - he has an adult, and should face some consequences of his own actions.

Chulainn · 14/01/2022 08:32

I don't understand how they might let him play if they've cancelled his visa. Currently he doesn't have a visa. It will only be reinstated if he takes legal action and wins. I know the media are saying he could still play but how?

Up to now, he's been completely tone deaf. Hopefully, he's read some (and there's a lot) of negative comments on sm and realises he might win this war but that the cost isn't worth it. He still has to think about ramifications in Serbia and Spain for breaking covid restrictions.

Alondra · 14/01/2022 08:38

No, he can't play if his visa has been cancelled. He can make an appeal and the appeal court make an urgent ruling that until the appeal is heard, he can keep playing. This is what I understand but mind you, I could be wrong. There are so many twists in this case that who knows by now?

Djokovic has been asked to present for an immigration interview tomorrow. This is where he will be given face to face the reason for cancelling the visa a second time.

After that, who on earth knows? He's a multimillionare with a whole legal team to support him for the appeal

tigger1001 · 14/01/2022 08:51

@Alondra that's pretty much what I have read. That his lawyers could lodge an injunction which would allow him to play until the case is heard but could also then backfire as could end up being deported in the middle of the tournament.

If that's correct, tennis Australia need to step in now as that's hardly fair on any of his opponents.

He needs to walk away now. He has repeatedly lied and each time he tries to sort one lie out another is exposed. Is he not now being investigated as to how he managed to enter Spain? His team need to be on damage limitation now and the only way that can happen is is he can leave Australia now and spin it somehow it's in the interests of his sport.

LakieLady · 14/01/2022 09:01

@errnerrcallnernnernnern

Novak banned from Oz for 3 years, NoncyDrew facing Giuffre trial and BoJo under siege and hiding under pretence of covid isolation.

2022 is shaping up nicely.

It's certainly been a good news week. Grin

I am a huge admirer of Djokovic as a player, but as a human being, not so much.

IDidntKnowItWasAParty · 14/01/2022 09:03

Team Aus. He's lying and breaking rules left right and centre, kick him out.

SpindleyCrow · 14/01/2022 09:12

I’m surprised at the stupidity of ND’s dishonest narrative.

It’s as bad as Andrew York’s and Boris Johnson’s tangled webs of deceit and deception.

Three men who are so used their ‘team’ never saying ‘No’ to them that they think they’re fucking godlike.

I honestly don't know if Tennis Australia can do anything at this point. This is a decision by the Federal Minister and I doubt TA have anything to say at this point.

Djokovic is being investigated in Spain and there is also the issue of how he'll be able to enter the French Open if he's not fully vaccinated. He's accumulating problems specially when so many other tennis players are being so vocal against him - latest one Tsitsipas.

I think one of the reasons it's taken so long for visa to be cancelled the second time is the government has wanted to make sure the visa cancellation will sustain an appeal. But who knows?

Sagealicious · 14/01/2022 09:14

I want him gone but I accept that he's appealing the decision because that's his legal right.

CharlotteRose90 · 14/01/2022 09:17

His visa has been cancelled. I’m so happy . It’s actually made my morning. Bye bye you lying disgrace of a man.

hedgehogger1 · 14/01/2022 09:27

I'm glad his visas been cancelled. He was completely taking the piss and has done so repeatedly

FannyCann · 14/01/2022 09:29

What an idiot. Now he'll be banned from Australia for three years. Will that have ramifications for travel to other places like the USA for example?

Anti vaxxers are going to find life increasingly difficult wherever they go. Australia obviously is tough, I read something last week about a woman being dragged out of a cafe and arrested as she didn't have her vaccine passport. Canada is requiring people to show their vaccination passport to go into a wide range of venues from shops to restaurants.
I don't agree really with such a level of creating a sub class of citizen but there it is. And at a family level it splits families. My elderly aunt refuses to see her daughter, my eldest cousin as she is not vaccinated.
This is happening around the world. Many people will just dig in as is their right but if you want to be free to travel around the world there will be problem after problem for anyone who isn't vaccinated. He may as well retire now.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 14/01/2022 09:29

I think, Visa aside, the AO needs to make a decision on whether he plays or not ASAP and what should happen to the draw... replace him or just give the other player a bye into the next round.

Bitezbabe · 14/01/2022 09:36

It’s his choice not to be vaccinated but he needs to realise the consequences of this. He’s lied on his application so should not be allowed in. If this was you or me no way would we have been allowed in.
Go home now!!

Rainbunny · 14/01/2022 09:55

I'm glad this has finally happened, his chances of a successful appeal are pretty slim from what I've read. I doubt they'll ban him for three years though, he back next no doubt. I hope Spain bans him as well! Who does he think he is to go wherever he likes in the world flouting vaccine requirements? Oh right, he's Novak Djokovic, Living God who can purify water by looking at it!

Apparently 84% of Australians want him gone so no surprise the government acted. I'm sure his Serbian-Australian fans will protest and riot now.

Alondra · 14/01/2022 09:57

@Bitezbabe

The problem is that consequences for you and me are not the same consequences for millionaries with multiple lawyers behind them.

He's lied, we all know he's lied. But the government needs to proof he's lied knowningly when he has medical certificates in his favour and he's already on record saying he lied but he was nervous, didn't know the implications and it was human error by his team answering the form.

It's not that easy to refute a lie when you have a team of lawyers behind you. It's why people with money get away with murder, literally.

Rainbunny · 14/01/2022 10:02

I don't think the government need to prove he lied, they've cancelled his vias on "health and good order grounds" and the fact that he's admitted to flouting quarantine rules in Serbia after testing positive for Covid means if he potentially tests positive for Covid again in Australia, he cannot be trusted to isolate himself and behave responsibly. That's all the government needs to argue.

Also it has been proven that he lied on his application by saying he hadn't travelled in the 14 days prior to arraiving in Australia. We know he did travel to Spain. It doesn't matter that he says his agent made the error on his visa application, it's his responsibility.

He won't win an appeal.

OssieShowman · 14/01/2022 10:29

Justice!

Roussette · 14/01/2022 10:30

Is he not now being investigated as to how he managed to enter Spain?

I'd like to know that. I know about restrictions gettting into Spain. Every time I've had to show my NHS app covid jabs.

WindyState · 14/01/2022 10:33

Fuck off Novak, don't let the door hit your anti-vax arse on the way out.

Rainbunny · 14/01/2022 10:36

After it was initially reported that Spain was investigating ND, a spokesman for the Spanish Interior Ministry has denied that they are investigating him. That's disappointing and I wonder how the Spanish public feels about this? I was in Spain in December and I had to show my covid passport to get into the country and to get into every venue while I was there.

bowlingalleyblues · 14/01/2022 10:50

I suspect that he has not had Covid. He is anti vax and couldn’t enter Australia unless with vaccinated OR had Covid recently. If it weren’t for him stating that he had Covid within the required period he wouldn’t have been allowed in at all.
