Depends on what your side of fence you are sitting, whether he is setting a example or not.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 13/01/2022 22:15

He is certainly setting an example, since he is an extremely prominent sportsman and people notice what he does; the question is whether it is a good example, or a bad one.

I'd say that on the whole it is probably a bad one. Since I seriously never heard of him before this month, I don't think there is any particular fence involved in my view, I am just looking at what he has been doing and thinking it pretty shoddy.

Offmyfence · 14/01/2022 06:58

Australia have cancelled his visa again!

Blackbird2020 · 14/01/2022 06:59

He’s out….

tigger1001 · 14/01/2022 07:00

Does that mean he cannot enter Australia for 3 years?

milkyaqua · 14/01/2022 07:01

Cancelled!

errnerrcallnernnernnern · 14/01/2022 07:01

Good riddance.

Roussette · 14/01/2022 07:08

Well... you cannot lie on a visa form and act like everything is OK. It isn't.
He visted two countries in the 14 days before.
His claims of catching COVID are murky at best.

He has admitted to providing wrong info on his Visa form.

If I did this, I would not be allowed in the country.

I do hope his family aren't going through the ridiculous press conferences again. And they just accept the decision. His brother just knew there was wrong done, by winding up the Presser when asked a question he didn't like

TokyoSushi · 14/01/2022 07:12

Oh Australia! Djokovic is such a massive example of 'rich white man thinks he can do whatever the fck he likes' - not this time!

milkyaqua · 14/01/2022 07:13

The courts are now closed, so he can't lodge an appeal until Monday. I hope he just flies the hell out.

ILoveYou3000 · 14/01/2022 07:24

He's lodging an appeal, hoping to have it fast tracked and heard over the weekend. He really doesn't like being told no does he? Proven to have lied, multiple times, yet just keeps pushing. He's destroying what's left of his reputation.

Weesiewoo · 14/01/2022 07:26

Ha ha. I assume that the immigration Minister left it till the last minute on a Friday afternoon for a reason well played Sir, well played 😁

errnerrcallnernnernnern · 14/01/2022 07:33

Novak banned from Oz for 3 years, NoncyDrew facing Giuffre trial and BoJo under siege and hiding under pretence of covid isolation.

2022 is shaping up nicely.

Brilliant!!

@Againstmachine

Depends on what your side of fence you are sitting, whether he is setting a example or not.
But even if your anti vax, the example he is setting is that is okay to sign a document which you have not checked or to sign a form when you know there are untrue facts on it. And it appears he has, at the very least, done at least one of these things. Not to mention the other claims being made.

Perfectly put
AlternativePerspective · 14/01/2022 07:38

And presumably if he can’t appeal until Monday he’s now out of the open anyway.

.

Although somehow I don’t think the Serbian prime minister will have much to say this time, since he’s not exactly abided by Serbian laws either.

Quite!

I'm loving this. Anti-vaxxers are twats imo and Djokovic is an arrogant git, so it's a win-win for me.

milkyaqua · 14/01/2022 07:42

Melbourne-based immigration lawyer Kian Bone said Djokovic's lawyers faced an "extremely difficult" task to get court orders over the weekend to allow their client to play next week.

"For Djokovic to get the outcomes he needs to play would be extremely difficult to obtain over the weekend," Mr Bone said.

Mr Hawke's delay in reaching a decision bordered on punitive, Mr Bone said.

"If you left it any later than he has done now, I think from a strategic standpoint he's [Hawke's] really hamstringing Djokovic's legal team, in terms of what sort of options or remedies he could obtain," Mr Bone said hours before the decision was announced.

The lawyers would need to go before a duty judge of the Federal Circuit and Family Court or a higher judge of the Federal Court to get two urgent orders.

One order would be an injunction preventing his deportation, like the order he gained last week. The second would order Mr Hawke to grant Djokovic a visa to play.

"That second order is almost not precedented," Mr Bone said.

Paperplain · 14/01/2022 07:47

And there you go. No coming back from that one. It's what should have been done properly in the first place.

Roussette · 14/01/2022 07:50

This is interesting from that article from a former Immigration official who thinks he could still play.

"I assume his lawyers will now seek judicial review of that decision. I assume the applications will be for Novak Djokovic to be released on a bridging visa to allow him to play in the Australian Open. He will need to sit over the weekend. There are complex issues to be considered, and the judge will have a difficult decision to make," Mr Rizvi says.

Mr Rizvi says he assumes Djokovic will be taken back to Melbourne's Park Hotel, where he was held after his visa was first cancelled.

Ghislainedefeligonde · 14/01/2022 07:52

Good! He needs to accept this and go home. I do think questions need to be asked of Tennis Australia as well though, he should never have been allowed in. This whole thing shows him in a very poor light and threatens to over shadow his incredible tennis skills. He’s now lagging waay behind Federer and Nadal in the popularity and good sportsman stakes!

Chulainn · 14/01/2022 07:58

Considering he lied on the visa application about not travelling anywhere in the prior 14 days to entry (and it's irrelevant who filled that document out - his visa, his responsibility), he attended 2 events after getting a positive covid result (and documents he submitted to the court said he received the result on the 16th so his damage limitation statement is irrelevant), he broke Serbian legal covid restrictions, he might have broken Spanish legal covid restrictions, I think he would be an absolute idiot to try and appeal. His reputation has taken a major hit. An appeal would do further damage. He should now gracefully (or pretend to be graceful, even if he's fuming) accept the decision and leave.

Has it been announced if they are going to keep the restriction of him not being allowed re-entry to Australia for 3 years or has that been waived?

BBC News saying he could still play. My feeling is that he will seek a judicial review, he's not going quietly.
BringMeTea · 14/01/2022 08:06

Bloody well done Australia! This has made my day.
