Blair knighthood

Mummyrowland · 03/01/2022 02:54

Nearly half a million people have signed a petition over his knighthood in 48 hours.

It should be removed and he shouldn't be awarded it.

After all what did he do that was good?

What about all the squaddies he sent to their deaths over the supposed wmds?

High ranking members of the armed forces are threatening resignation if his award isn't reconsider

What good did John Major do? He has a knighthood.

I did wonder why Major was knighted. Such an average man- no idea what he did to earn a knighthood , but could say the same for many MPs.

Not his biggest fan. Still undecided about him tbh, but I suppose it could be argued that he was a good example of meritocracy. Working class background, lived in a council flat, and left school at 16. Yet made it to the role of Prime Minister. Perhaps inspiring for others.

Also he put in a lot of the groundwork for the GFA.

What have the Royal Family done to have all the awards they give themselves?
What did John Major do to be knighted?
Why did Thatcher get to be a Baroness - that vile specimen of humanity that she was.
Boris Johnson will be knighted - yet a more odious person to occupy the role of PM is hard to imagine.

Scrap the whole honours system.

I just gave two reasons why it could be argued that John Major merited one.

And Thatcher? Well yes she did some bad things - including one of the most terrible policies ever. The Right to Buy has caused huge suffering and misery. (Yet none of her successors, including Blair and Brown, ended it in England). However, she was the first ever UK female Prime Minister. Which was a huge achievement at a time.

The Queen herself has my respect. Yes she has (financial) privilege, but I think she has a genuine sense of duty to the country. Much more so than many in the Houses of Parliament.

I agree that Boris doesn't deserve one. None of our PMs from Blair onwards do.

I don't think we need to scrap the honours system. Reform it, maybe.

Give the honours to those who genuinely deserve one. That includes the likes of Chris Whitty and JVT. Also the 11 year old Tobias Weller.

Here's another deserving candidate imo

Can't believe people are still wittering on about this after the revelations of this week. I mean apparently Gavin Williamson is set to get a knighthood, which is just... He (TB- not GW, who did fuck all other than pose with a whip) achieved a lot and, Tealight your determination to blame him for every single thing ever is frankly weird. I definitely agree that other people worked on the GFA as well as him, but saying Mo Mowlam did it on her own is just as daft as saying he did.

I wish to god he was in charge now. I've never felt so hopeless in my life and hope and optimism was one thing we had in spades when he was in charge.

Tealightsandd · 16/01/2022 23:42

I don't blame him for everything. But he did many very bad things and they shouldn't be forgotten or dismissed.

That said, whilst I never miss an opportunity to mention Blair's crimes, I would've ever wish him dead, nor would I celebrate his passing. I think the behaviour of some people when Thatcher died was very distasteful. Prison, on the other hand. I'd be happy if that was his fate.

You wish he was in now? What do you have against the disabled?

Btw, the casual Othering of the vulnerable during this pandemic is the direct consequences of his toxic legacy.

Tealightsandd · 16/01/2022 23:43

wouldn't, not would've

mynamesnotMa · 29/01/2022 11:15

Very bad things compare him to this useless lying oaf we have now. Who has the deaths of his own people on his hands. A government who are ruining education the health service. How many lies has there been under a Tory government. How many times are people so thick that they vote them in.
Sir Blair compared to the baboon we have
