At primary school, we sometimes used to have "cheese puffs" for dinner. I'm fairly certain they were just puff pastry and cheese but I can't replicate them. They were kind of like a cross between cake and a Yorkshire pudding inside, and looked like a scone.

Cant find a recipe that looks right on google. I'm aware they have no nutritional value but I really want to taste these again. Anyone else have a silly childhood food like this?

(And if you know what I'm talking about and have the recipe I'd be eternally grateful Wink)

Vesta Beef Italianne and Vesta chicken supreme and rice, these were not a staple for us because my Mum always cooked meals from scratch, but more of a treat. Both are now discontinued. Probably completely devoid of any nutritional value, but I would love to eat both of them again.

Supermousse! I'm having flashbacks of the orange and lemon flavour. Those cute little tubs with the curved-in base that they came in.

Spira chocolate bars.

Fry's mint cream bars, and the ones that had a different flavour in each chunk.

Toffee tart, as made for school dinners. I've tried to recreate it but without success.

Fiendish feet and a frozen potato thing that was a hula hoop (and branded by hula hoop)

jackstini · 02/01/2022 23:26

@MissyB1 - Gadsbys of Southwell still do the rum truffle cakes, you could call and see where they are stocked!

I miss school sausages - they were crunchy on the outside with split skins and soft in the middle - think they were deep fried but never been able to replicate!
We used to fight over seconds

Also steakwich - used to love those on a sandwich, cooked in about 60 seconds!

Creamed mushrooms in a tin. It was a vol-au-vent filling but I loved it on buttered toast and then grilled. The cheese and bacon toast toppers too! Oh why don’t they still make them?!

clopper · 02/01/2022 23:28

I miss toast toppers ( ham and mushroom), crispy pancakes, old English spangles, spam fritters, cheeses puffs, pink custard and rissoles.

@madamehooch

Mississippi Mud Pie
Yes every sophisticated meal out aged 16 -25 involved Mississippi Mud Pie or Alabama Rock pie to finish. Started with garlic mushrooms on toast and would be chicken Kiev or steak for the main until everywhere did fajitas.
Winniewonka · 02/01/2022 23:34

M & S used to make a seafood pasta ready meal with linguine, cod, smoked haddock and prawns in a cheese sauce. I absolutely loved it and then it was discontinued along with
Apricot and Almond Yogurt
Some type of German yogurty type of sweet with liquid fruit centres

Growing up in the late sixties, I remember my Mum going to a new attraction in the next town. It was Asda! Supermarkets were just beginning to emerge and as a treat she would bring me a Ski Yoghurt, just the one. I can still feel the waxed paper container, no plastic then, and the wonderful flavours of hazelnut, black cherry and my favourite - chocolate which wasn't really sweet at all. I haven't come across chocolate flavoured yogurt since, the nearest was Yollies chocolate lollies but they were discontinued a few years ago too!

I think wistfully about chicken and mushroom Toast Toppers at least once a week. That was a god tier snack Sad

Wouldcouldcantwont · 02/01/2022 23:35

Anyone remember Chicken Supreme in a tin? One half was the chicken and the other the rice. You had to open the tin a tiny bit to let the steam out and then boil the tin in a pan. It was delicious!

Andouillette · 02/01/2022 23:36

Raspberry nesquick. I still hope it will make a comeback.
Cheese crispy pancakes, or even better, M&S cheese and onion crispy pancakes.
Toast toppers.
Shiphams pastes
Wondermash
School spam fritters
Tinned potatoes with mince
Some weird pudding, like creme caramel but with a raspberry top.

cleowasmycat · 02/01/2022 23:36

Toast Toppers (oh the shame)

NinaDefoe · 02/01/2022 23:36

Kia-Ora Orange, Pineapple and passion fruit flavour.

emsmar · 02/01/2022 23:37

Does anyone remember the lolly pops from M&S. they were on long clear plastic sticks and came in a pack of 3! And the flat tofffy lolly pops that came in the multi packs with the fruit ones. I wish I could get those.

KurtWilde · 02/01/2022 23:37

Goblin puddings that you boiled in the tin, particularly the mince one. I used to look forward to them so much, it was probably one of my favourite dinners with some chips and a tin of processed peas and oxo gravy. I remember my first day at college my mum had made that for my tea when I got in

LadyMaid · 02/01/2022 23:39

Tangy toms

Sainsbury used to do an apple pie flavoured ice cream, it was exactly like eating a cold creamy apple pie with a hint of cinnamon, I've never had anything as good as that ever.

Scampi Fries, I could eat packets of these one after the other

Ski yoghurt, there was one in a glass jar called Ski Sundae, it was utterly divine

Heinz spaghetti hoops and sausages in BBQ sauce.

They were involved in that huge recall about 15 years ago. I still look out for them in hope. Can't even find pics of them online, they had a purple label. No one ever remembers them.

KurtWilde · 02/01/2022 23:42

@NinaDefoe they were sooo good! I liked the baked bean flavour best.

Tudor crisps I used to get from the tuck shop at school, they did a really strong beef one like bovril. Loved them. I still have bovril on toast or a cup of it with some toast, that was my mum's go to supper when we were kids.

Labracadabradoodle · 02/01/2022 23:42

@twominutesmore

"It was the Chow Mein (Vesta) with the crispy noodles. Bloody loved it. I bought one the other year for nostalgia sake and it was still bloody lovely"

It was! I didn't realise you could still get it!

Amazon 😊
DahliaMacNamara · 02/01/2022 23:43

I've been down a tiny rabbit hole trying to remember the competitor to the victorious Pot Noodle from around 1980. I became vegetarian around then, and if I wasn't at home it was the easiest thing to tell people I'd eat. With a few chips on the side, of course, to prove I hadn't gone completely mad. Anyway, whatever it was, I'll have one of those now, please.

Cakeofdoom · 02/01/2022 23:44

They pop up in Poundland and our big Asda sells them too

Cakeofdoom · 02/01/2022 23:45

Sorry that's Vesta box meals :-)
