At primary school, we sometimes used to have "cheese puffs" for dinner. I'm fairly certain they were just puff pastry and cheese but I can't replicate them. They were kind of like a cross between cake and a Yorkshire pudding inside, and looked like a scone.

Cant find a recipe that looks right on google. I'm aware they have no nutritional value but I really want to taste these again. Anyone else have a silly childhood food like this?

(And if you know what I'm talking about and have the recipe I'd be eternally grateful Wink)

Mcvities Royal Scot biscuits - delicious! Sadly discontinued.
Also, McVities Abbey Crunch were lovely but discontinued.

I liked a Buffet Bar in the early 90’s. A long scotch egg but with coleslaw in the middle.
Like everything, they tweaked the recipe and it’s lost it’s crunch, it’s flavour and it’s size.

Intheopinionofourexpert · 02/01/2022 23:07

Puff cracknells - about the size of a scone, but had the texture of polystyrene. Lovely!

Anther fan of kunzle cakes. Also likes aztec bars, swisskits, a bar of chocolate called - I think - velvet blend. It was in between dark and milk chocolate, and bloody divine. Fry's chocolate sandwich was another favourite.

Beef burgers in a tin - were they Heinz? And there was a tin of curry that you opened at both ends, one end was rice and the other was the curry.

No wonder I became vegetarian at about the age of 6.

Bejams did the most amazing lemon glaze doughnuts. Have never tasted anything as good

@Couchbettato

Those microwave donner kebabs in a pita, that came with that weirdly unspicy chilli sauce, and microwave 1 minute fries in a box.

I haven't had them for like 20 years but I distinctly remember their flavour and I'd love some as a cheeky, dirty, guilt free nostalgic reminder if I knew where to find them these days.

I suspect that Iceland warehouse or FarmFoods will stock those.

Also, to the pp who craved macaroni pie: I have seen them in Iceland Warehouse in the last few weeks.

Cheese Hula hoops
Wickers (crisps in the shape of little baskets)
Royal Scot biscuits
Original Double Deckers (with raisins)
Galaxy Counters (with the numbers on)

Findus French Bread Pizza
Smoky Bacon crisps

Cakeofdoom · 02/01/2022 23:11

Vesta Curry's and Chinese in a box, the ones you fry the noodles until they puff up and go crispy.

Findus crispy pancakes, I still love them

Lean Cuisine meals you boiled in a bag....chicken a l'orange was lush...

HazelBite · 02/01/2022 23:12

Kunzle cakes were so very yummy, they were bought as an absolute treat, I loved the pink one.

godmum56 · 02/01/2022 23:13

@Nottogetapenny

Does anyone remember, an Apple dumpling you could get in a tin! Or a large tin, with a mini chicken inside with small dumplings

I remember kunzel cakes, they were amazing!

M&S used to do a chicken with an orange sauce tasted delicious

And the original Special K cereal so much better than the ‘new improved recipe’

oh kunzle cakes fabulous. Sarah Kennedy managed to get them revivied briefly but they didn't sell.

Not a really old one but a few years ago Mand S did beercan chicken, half a chicken marinated is some savoury stuff, 3 for a tenner. I lived on them for the whole summer and stashed a load in the freezer. They never did it again and I was soooooo sad.

TitsInAbsentia · 02/01/2022 23:13

I'd never heard of kunzle cakes, and have to say I've def never seen/had them (I'm 50...) so here's a pic

@HelloBunny- I remember the mousse dessert/cake but raspberry flavour. My mum worked there so we would get the ones going out of date! So delicious

Marks and Spencer Rich Tea Chocolate Sandwich Biscuits
Chambourcy Real Chocolate Mousse (Shh! Don't tell the children...)
Chocolate Home Wheat when they were full of salt and too big to dunk

madamehooch · 02/01/2022 23:16

Mississippi Mud Pie

CockneySpanner · 02/01/2022 23:17

Butterscotch (gypsy) tart and custard. Sausage pie. Probably in the minority but I loved school mash too, scooped out with the old fashioned ice cream scoop. My school would also zhuzh up a McVities Jamaican ginger cake by slicing and adding whipped cream in the middle and on top - fake gateaux. Marvellous.

jo55ie · 02/01/2022 23:18
